Good location in the middle of the beach, not noisy. The food was not that good so we didn't eat there much but the hosts were very friendly and helpful. Nice rooms but really hot, had the fan on all night. 10 min walk from surf.

The room was dirty as the bathroom. There were no sheets on the bed. When we asked for some at the reception, the host was almost shocked about our request!

Rooms are "ok" for the price, it was not the room THE problem. It was the the staff of the hotel. We order food, meat was hard like stone even dogs didn't want to eat it!

The director tried to sell us an excursion triple price. And when we left the hotel, a cab was waiting for us although we didn't ask for one. The guy of the cab even followed us until the bus stand! And we asked to him to leave us alone but he started to be very rude. Moreover he tried to sell us the ride double price than the basic price.
When we said to all of them that we wanted to take buses, they said to us that it was to late and there was no more buses for our destination. Which was completely false!

And the top of the best of the top ... they opened our bags when we let them at the reception.

The best is to book an hotel before to come . Because for the same price you can have better and mainly you can have one closer of the ambiance and people.

The Tsunami Hotel, named prodigiously prior to the tragedy a few years ago, is a simple beach huts type of place.

We paid 3000 Rupees per night for a bungalow facing the sea. Rooms are very basic, with nothing but beds with mosquito nets, and a few shelves. Bathrooms are shabby. Food rather mediocre, we went to green room or gecko for finer dining experiences, but some dishes like the sambal, dal, and roti combo are delicious.

Wireless internet is available at 200 Rupees per day, and they rent out their laptop if you don't have one yourself.

Naleen, the owner, parties heavily on most days. He is a really nice guy who takes exclllent care of his guests, which is why we ended up staying here for 6 nights (out of a total of only 2 weeks in sri lanka). Also staff was exceptionally nice.

All in all a great place to chill, relax and meet nice people. Planned to stay 3 days, ended up staying 6.

We planned to stay 5 nights at the hotel and ended up staying 8 nights because we loved it so much!

Perfect location, at the quieter end of the beach so no noise at night yet only a 2 minute walk along the beach to the crowds of people!

Hotel was basic but it does what it needs to do. Clean rooms, big fans (in the larger rooms) and beach front location.

We had a fish BBQ on the first night which was very tasty and they have a good selection of alcohol too.

Staff are very friendly and helpful too, made us feel at home!

Arugam Bay is an incredible place to stay, if you go in season its fantastic. Great people, great food and great nightlife! We will be back!

I spent a good couple of hours wandering around Arugam Bay before discovering Tsunami. And i have to say there are quite a few poor options out there. Arugam is fairly expensive compared with the South West of Sri Lanka, but 2000 rps got us a really good room with a breeze and a couple of cute puppies! It was just finishing off some building work to two honeymoon suite rooms when we were there - quite jealous we couldn't have tried that one out! We felt really looked after and spent four lovely days lounging in hammocks in the shade. Recommended for couples looking for something romantic or surfers looking for a little more comfort than the budget basic who should try Beach Hut.

Located directly on the beach this is the place if you enjoy an early morning or late night flundering in the ocean. Just get up from the deckchair, and walk accross the beach, which starts right in front of it.
Cabana style rooms but the "advanced" type with solid walls and floor. Very basic interieur, bath room a bit worn as usual in most budget oriented places on Sri Lanka.
Two cabanas are facing purely east directly to the sea with only palm trees, sand, the ocean and the small wooden fence in view which marks the end of the lot and the beginning of the public beach.
Each cabana provides a small private terrace with deckchairs and table plus a space upstairs under the roof which is sufficient for two hammocks. From here you have a great view over app. the northern half of the beach and nearly 180° of the bay. We spent hours there when it was too hot for anything else during the day just reading, relaxing or watching the birds, the fisherman and the waves.
It is actually the atmosphere of living right on the beach that made us feel very easy and relaxed.
Breakfast is ok but we had better quality at half the price in a small restaurant with palm leaf roof and a big surfer painting on the wall app. 300m south on the opposite side of the street.
The fish dinner we had was a desaster, the basic things like veg curry and chicken was average in the best case.
The owner however is a entertaining and courteous person, staff is very friendly.
Room price was negotiable, we felt that 1.800Rs (app. 11EUR room w/o breakfast) were a fair deal.

One has to note that in February, the time of our stay, there is no season for surfers and thus only very very few tourists are in Arugam Bay so do not expect too much of a nightlife at this time. Some restaurants and guesthouses are closed, you will even have trouble to find pineapple, mango or other fruits.
On the other hand time stands still in Arugam Bay outside the surfer season and that is quite a valuable experience for busy europeans these days...

This place is right on the beach and has rooms with terraces looking out to sea - ours also had a space in the roof with a hammock in it. Plumbing wasnt great - had a leaky loo - and no hot water -.and a bathroom floor which tended to be wet all the time - not great with so much sand around. Didnt try the food as didnt fancy it. But the location was great.
