Nuwara Eliya by itself is an untouched hill town. It has a great charm!
The Grand Hotel was a good place to stay in. i am not sure if there are much better hotels there (i have heard the Tea Factory is a great place - but is much more exp also).
The hotel has two wings, and unfortunately, at the time we were visiting, one of the wings was under renovation. We got two rooms in the old wing, and the rooms were asking for some work!
It was not in tatters, but one could see that its not been uplifted for quite some time.
That said, the rooms were very neat and clean. The service was decent. There was a large corporate event happening, so i am assuming that caused a lot of diversion.
I liked the open park right outside the hotel entrance. Huge green lawn, with old styled chairs to relax. On a pleasant day, the sunshine felt very nice.
Its fairly close to the city centre too.
Overall i would say, that if you do not end up in one of "requires renovation" rooms, the hotel is decent value for money.
