“Back to the 1970's”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2012

We stayed in this hotel for one night during our Peregrine two week trip around Sri Lanka. The Forest Lodge is a remnant from a bygone age but only the 1970's sad to say. That means ghastly patterned carpets and curtains, old worn out bathrooms and smoking in the public rooms!!!!! Needs to be updated. The hotel and the food was OK.

I was having a good impression, when they offered us a tea when we arrived there. But, I was surprised when I was asked to pay for using internet in the lobby. One hundred rupees maybe nothing but for a hotel / lodge where they charge 100 usd a night, it was kind of a strange/weird act.
Anyhow, room was nice but the Bathroom was very small and without any exhaust ( I don't know why?). At night time, children were shouting and screaming in the corridor, and there was no guest ethics being observed. Smoking portion was just neat to my room and I could smell the smoke coming inside my room. Why did they put it there, when inside hotel should be no-smoking zone, one should go to bar down stair or outside.
Breakfast was ok, nothing so special.

Room Tip: Book through travel agent, it can be cheaper...And, also check exhaust of your bathroom..!

We stayed here thankfully for only one night, but the double room we had booked contained two single beds pushed together, with mattresses that springs sticking through - it was an awful nights sleep. We woke up in the morning to hammering as building work started. We then discovered the shower door was broken, the shower did not work, the bathroom sink didn't even have a plug. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. We've stayed in 5 different hotels on this holiday and this was the worst by along way. The staff and management were unhelpful in dealing with our complaints. Best advice - avoid this hotel!

Another rundown Galway property although even worse than their offering at Anuradhapura.
Stank of smoke and they allowed smoking in the foyer. In fact during night i wondered whether a fire had broken out. barking dogs all night.
Access to shower by climbing through a broken shower screen.
Shower cubicle doesnt drain and in fact there was gurling going on so i suspect backflow of grey water so had to stop shower to let it drain away. too tired to move and frankly if management beleive this room is suitable for habitation then they deserve every criticism. No fan or aircon and whilst i couldnt locate any heater the room was far too hot anyway.
Basically the worst hotel i have ever stayed in and would not recommend to my worst enemy.

Room Tip: choose another hotel

Nuwara Eliya is a beautiful serene, green place to visit. The best part is, to visit the tea factories with their tea room or terraces overlooking the tea plantations and enjoy sipping several cups of tea, while reading a good book. Unfortunately all the hotels are fully booked for the summer. We found Galway Forest Lodge as the only available hotel. It may not be a top notch hotel but is sufficient for a 2- 3 days stay.During vacations, I prefer to stay away from the city noise, hence this hotel was isolated, yet quite accessible to the small town.

Galway Forest Hotel is a small hotel 2 km away from the main city and 1 km away from Lake Gregory. There were very few people staying at the hotel, so we enjoyed the peace and quiet atmosphere. The rooms were clean and the staff extremely helpful and polite. We enjoyed the walks to town through the Galway forest. If we were tired we took the readily available tuk-tuk to town.

The restaurant is good.
Breakfast buffet is adequate.
The Dinner buffet is average, but the set menu dinner nights are good.
The a-la-carte menu has a good variety - do try the devilled prawns.

Internet only works in the lobby.
Bathrooms have hot water.
Do not leave window open at night as mosquitos might come in attracted to the lights inside.

Overall, quite an enjoyable stay!

Room Tip: There is no elevator in the hotel, so if you don't mind trudging up the stairs, the third floor...

I visited Nuwaya Eliya with great expectation. Even though the lobby and outside of the hotel looks good, the room is infested with bed bugs. We booked two rooms and there was bed bugs in both rooms. We spent the whole night being bitten by bugs and stayed awake. The next day, we planned to go to mountain top at 6 am and that was spoilt due to the bad night. In the morning, I showed the room to the manager and they were not helpful at all. Their reaction was just "it never happened before and I don't believe". I requested for refund and nothing was done about it at all. Photos of the bed bug is attached as evidence.
I definitely do not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: photos on the website look good but the rooms are not so clean.

We usually stay at the grand but it was booked out so we gave this place a go. Despite calling four hours in advance we still had to wait a good thirty minutes for them to be made up when we arrived.

The sheets on three out of the five beds we had were dirty, oil stains and what looked like blood stains on one of them.

Our driver was also not given any breakfast despite it being half board and none of us having dinner the night before.

The breakfast buffet itself was fairly plain with Dahl, rice and then the standard breakfast fare. Juice was an extra 500 rupees.

Wifi didn't work on any of our computers and staff were unable to fix it. Despite this we were still charged to use the business center.
