Stayed for one night during a tour of the country. Was amazing, arrived in the evening with the low cloud and the cooler climate was amazing and moody. The hotel reception/greeting was great and the service throughout our stay was brilliant. The room were ok, nothing special but clean and tidy.

There were loads of excursion and things to go on from the hotel. It's a bit isolated if you were to try and organise things yourself and it's too far to walk to NE. There are some good walks to be had around the tea plantations though.

The food was very good with plenty of choice for where to eat and what to eat.

We only stayed at the tea factory for one night and during our trip to Sri Lanka it was the most expensive accommodation that we stayed in, but it was worth every penny. Firstly, the drive up to Nuwara Eliya is absolutely out of this world and something you should definitely do if you are going to Sri Lanka. You get to see the 'real people and the real country'. The tea pickers and tea factories on the way are fascinating, but do make you feel really guilty buying tetley tea for a couple of pounds back home when this is what they make in a week for picking tea if they are lucky!

The drive down to the tea factory itself is stunning, the views of the hotel are amazing. The building itself is a lovingly restored tea factory. The rooms are spotlessly clean and have everything that you need to relax after a long journey. The staff are polite and extremely helpful. The room boys decorate your beds with flower petals (something I have seen in other parts of Sri Lanka but not to the artistic details as they do here). We had a corner room with a stunning view of the countryside round about. The views and peace and tranquility are really what makes this hotel, no sounds of horns or tuk tuks in sight. The restaurant served some lovely food (if a bit spicy) and really you would need to eat at the restaurant on site as it would be a bit of a trek to go back into Nuwara Eliya for an evening meal. The night that we ate there they had traditional Sri Lankan music being played by a group of musicians. They do have a train carriage on site which cooks meals for a more romantic meal, at a price, which we did not do, but the food did look gorgeous.

I wish that we had stayed here longer to explore the beautiful countryside, but the journey back to Bentota beach was equally stunning.

I would definitely come back here.

The location of the hotel makes up for the long and some would say a tedious journey through mountain passes. Once inside the hotel the colonial atmosphere is all around you. The welcome cinnamon tea at the reception is very refreshing. The choice of food at breakfast and dinner was plentiful –both western and location. The choice of cheese was more plentiful than what you would get in some renowned restaurants in London. The staff in the restaurant and bar were very friendly. The very early morning walk in the tea plantation was not only educational but also refreshing and built up excellent appetite for a superb breakfast. We would definitely visit the Tea Factory again for a longer visit.
