Like a lot of fellow travellers, we had 1 night in Nuwara Eliya between Kandy and Yala in order to take in Horton Plains. Because of travelling times/ distances involved we arrived 7.30pm and left next morning at 5am, so had no opportunity to enjoy the hotel facilities.

The condition of the road to / from town adds an extra 45mins to the journey and really is why I would consider a more central hotel if only stopping for 1 night.

Dinner was quite decent, but breakfast for Horton Plains (tend to go very early) is always going to be a simple packed breakfast.

Very fast Internet was 50 SL rupees for each 15mins which was really a bargain.
Weather was extremely miserable with high winds and rain during our visit.

Did meet people who stayed here for a few nights and absolutely adored this hotel. But for me going for less than 10 hours seemed less worthwhile.

The hotel has been built from the shell of a 1930's tea factory. The colonial style rooms offer stunning views of the nearby tea plantations. The interior of the hotel has been beautifully restored. Meals are of very good quality and taken in an elegant dining room. As the hotel is set on a working tea plantation you can pick your own tea in the grounds and have it dried at the hotel.

The hotel's location is spectacular, it looks down on hills and valleys. It's only drawback is the pot holed dirt track that connects the hotel the nearest village, the journey along it is quite an ordeal. Despite this, the hotel is a delight to stay in and gives you a taste of life in a bygone age.

We arrived at about 4pm and left at 7am the next morning so this was a rather fleeting visit. First impressions: impressive location. Having driven on the long winding roads past the tea pickers, there was something very lovely about staying in an old tea factory - I don't suppose we will get the chance to stay in such a place again. It is a rather novel experience to stay here, and rather fun! Yes - the road there is bumpy, but this shouldn't put you off staying there, it is not that bad! Yes - the rooms are not particularly high standard, fairly small and with basic bathrooms. Yes - the staff are so attentive they border on irritating. But - I am so pleased we stayed here. There is something quirky and different about it - surely that's best to remember, and more fun than faultless service and smooth roads! I would recommend that you do stay here, for the one night. And make sure you have a massage - having had quite a few spa experiences in Sri Lanka, this massage topped them all!

This is the place people just dream of.....why I say so , u see in my photos. Beautiful tea gardens, cool dreamy breeze and a hotel that was once a Tea Factory...and still has the machines and levers around which the rooms and lobby is built. Its just amazing....with a great Spa....the perfect recipe for serenity. We just wish our stay was longer. The hotel has such wonderful staff who make you feel like royalty. There's a working turbine generator that they kick start every evening and the food is yummy. And so are the deserts.
An absolute MUST STAY.

Enjoyed one night at hotel. Our room was small but comfortable. The bathroom needs some upgrading. Restaurant was excellent. Enjoyed a fabulous biriyana dinner. Great bar. Outside areas are fun and beautiful. The interior, public areas have been renovated to preserve old tea factory elements with modern comforts.

We stayed at the Tea factory for 2 days and it was a excellent stay.Staying at a tea factory converted into a hotel was like travelling back in time.Although it was old It was very well maintained. The views from the rooms were very good and staying on a tea estate was a great exp. They also have a small tea factory where you can go and see how the tea leaves are processed and also pluck tea leaves etc.

This is the perfect blanket of warmth in the Cold cold hills.I am a person who suffers from travel sickness and was a bit apprehensive about this trip all the way to Nuwara Eliya. But I am willing to fall ill on the way all over again just so that I can visit this Hotel.Structured around an old tea factory this place has a superb ambiance that beckons the weary to rest not only the body but their souls as well. Not hauntingly quiet but has a sense of silence that gives one total privacy and comfort to rest and rejuvenate at their own speed.Staff here are very warm, welcoming and friendly and not in the least bit overbearing or nosy. While one is left on his or her own at all times help appears like magic if needed,so in tune are the staff with the guest's needs. Although there is not a huge variety of food whatever that's laid down is given with such a sense of graciousness one just feels that its the best food in the world. The taste too is wonderful. Also if ever you need an extra bit of food not featured in the menu the staff go in to great lengths to try provide it.From the Gate keeper to the doorman to the front office staff,to the Executive Chef to the General Manager this Hotel has a unique set of people who not only serve at a unique hotel but have a unique way of serving.Thank you to all for making my stay memorable and my advice to anyone who is seeking relaxation for the body and the soul visit the Heritance Tea Factory,Unwind your soul will never be yours again. This is true I left mine there and will go back hoping to call it my own again
