Heritance Tea Factory
Ranked #2 of 31 Hotels in Nuwara Eliya
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Loved the idea of staying in a converted tea factory. The grounds are lovely and the views astounding. The buffet meals were good and the curd and treacle, one of the smoothest I have tasted in Sri Lanka. The service was fantastic and this seems to be true in all the hotels we have stayed in Sri lanka. A true hallmark of Sri lankan hospitality.
Loved how they had preserved a lot of the tea factory including the generator ( which works!), the lift and various machines and tea packing memorabilia.
Wifi was complimentary and signal, strong

Cons
remote from the town area. ( which is pro or cons depending on what you re looking for)
The lodging area for the guides is apparently not great compared to other hotels
The roads leading to the hotel are bumpy and winding and visibility can be poor.
We had a superior room on the first level and it was very noisy. We could hear the live music from the dining area till 10 pm at night, the chattering of guests at the front of the hotel, along the corridor and footsteps of the guests above
Double room consisted on 2 singles pushed together

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms on the first floor esp those on the side above the restaurant

For visitors who like a nostalgic visit to the hill country of Sri Lanka, with memories of the old tea planting days, this is an ideal location. The Tea Factory has been tastefully renovated to accommodate this hotel within its boundaries. The service was courteous and delightful, yet unobtrusive, reminiscent of old times. The food, while not being 5 star, was adequate and imaginative, embracing Western and Eastern tastes. I draw particular attention to the dining room Captain S. Nalendran, who could not do enough for his guests. The Hethersett Bar is particularly cosy and welcoming. I have 1 suggestion to make to management, that families with younger children should be seated in their own area, leaving the older guests to enjoy some peace and quietude during mealtimes.

we went for 2 nights with our 3 teenage daughters as part of a month long trip touring the island. We had a wonderful stay here - the staff were extremely attentive and great entertainment. Although you have to pay extra a meal on the train carriage is a must - it was one of the highlights of the trip for all of us - go with a sense of humour and enter into the spirit of the evening and you will have a blast! The spa was wonderful and the peace and tranquillity worth the drive there.

Room Tip: the higher up in the building you are the better views you get!!!!

Reviewed this hotel on Tripadvisor and got really excited to visit, but actual experience was even more surprising and absolutely stunning.....
I was quite impressed by how the interior of a old tea factory was used and converted into a Hotel while not loosing the soul of a Tea Factory.....
surrounded with Tea gardens, morning view was a blessing.... lush green 360 view from the room was amazing...
Staff was dressed in same way as they used to dress up when it was a Tea Factory, staff was very helpful and friendly..
It a must to experience, I would definitely recommend a stay of at least two nights..

Thanks
Vineet

Room Tip: try to get corner suite, it has big windows in three of four walls which provides an amazing view fr...

It's just fabulous! our men are all fall in love with her and our ladies are all fall in love with him! It might be fragrance of tea, magic massage oil, irresistible smile...
It's trasnformed from an old historic building, isolation between rooms is an optional, who is sensitivo to the noise will be hard to have a good dream.
Thanks again for your effort to get our back bag from Kandalama, although the expense is not cheap and I've to repeat again here that your exchange rate is a robbing!!!

We stayed for two nights during our honeymoon in October 2013. We were happy with our room, which had a bath, heating (it gets chilly at times in the mountains) safe, tv and all the other usual facilities in hotels of this price in Sri Lanka. Our view was good, but there were better within the hotel we understand.
As with other reviews here, we experienced the religious music and barking dogs, though so far they have not been excessive (we are half way through our stay as I write). The bed was typically huge, which we loved, and the romantic touches for our honeymoon were sweet at least! The staff so far have been very friendly and maybe a little over-bearing at times, during meals, where we had more attention than we would ideally have required, but each to their own..we were certainly not ignored!
The food was good - I read "excellent" and "awful" here, but we found it to be between the two. The choices at the buffet were fairly good...and considering how hard it is to reach this destination, we had pity for the deliveries! Many have come a long way - except the tea of course.
It took us a long time to get to the place and the bath and hot towel were both greatly appreciated soon after we arrived.
Finally, I would agree with other reviews that say two days is a suitable length of stay. But the trip is worth it for that long, as the delightful features and interesting structure of the building, combined with the awesome views along the journey, were well worth a look.

Given that we were typical beach people, we figured we would try something different. The place was interesting at first, the whole concept of a converted tea factory was great but for us the novelty wore off fast. We stayed at the executive suit which is right at the top. the view was great too, but again we got bored pretty fast. We managed to finish the activities available on our first day. The room and staff are very friendly and accommodating. The food was quite good and the place is very relaxing, but perhaps a bit too relaxing for our taste. Well worth a visit for its unique concept though. Also try the spa!! its pretty awesome!

Room Tip: The corner most rooms have a great view.
