A 4 Star Property - situated in the cool climes of Kandapola. This hotel was converted from a tea factory during the British Raj era. The hotel is amidst the misty mountains and lush tea plantations 6,800 ft above sea level. Much of the original style and machinery remains as a reminder of the past blended with the present. The elevators from the colonial era is worth mentioning too and in tip top working condition.

The bedrooms are cozy, wood is the main material used, with doors, shelves and cupboards left in their natural colors. The windows remain as they were in their original square wooden frames and these provide a glorious view from any bedroom or bathroom. A stay at this unique hotel concept is super tranquil and relax.

Most will dine 3 meals at the Kenmare Restaurant. Tthere is another restaurant - Railway Restaurant at the rear of the hotel converted from an old vintage train cabin which serves a la carte dinner.

Room Tip: Rooms either facing the front gives you a panoramic view of tea plantations and those at its rear; o...

Set high amidst the lush tea plantations this hotel has to be seen to be believed. The former tea factory has been sympathetically restored right down to the last detail. Once a day you can see the old machinery working in the basement as you stand on any of the five floors. The lift is the old cage door type. It was like stepping back in time to the old colonial past with photos of former managers and tea pickers adorning the walls. We ate in the buffet and loved the variety of food and the accompanying piano music. we weree upgraded but not sure what differnec that made. rooms were tasteful and comfortable. Ok the bathroom was not upto top stnadard but we found it fine. Just admire the wonderful views !

The hotel is actually quite far out of Nuwara Eliya. You travel a long way along a single track road. The hotel is quirky, lots of tea memorabilia. The bedrooms are fairly large but rather old fashioned. The views are great though. There are 2 restaurants - the main buffet one and the old railway carriage. We opted for the railway carriage and it was well worth it! Breakfast was rather disappointing - the buffet items were cold!

We spent 2 nights in this faboulous hotel. It was the 5th on our trip but it has been the best. Excellent service, excellent food, very clean and tidy. It is located in the middle of tea plantation, a bit far from main city but that's what make the stay special. The tea offered at our arrival was soo tasty! It has been a pleasure to have dinner in a quite restaurant with candle lights and the pianist playing romantic songs, couldn't have ask for more!

this hotel looks majestic as you see it from the lower winding road. the reception is warm and sets a positive feel. however instead of views over the beautiful gardens and tea plantations we had a view of the staff car park and the dim of the generator. we had an early start and this kept us up most of the night! we couldn't even make any teas as they only had real tea and no strainer. we were also recommended the railway restaurant but it was fully booked so we ate in the bar. unfortunately this was then also closed for a private function ( we later found out it was an internal presentation). the staff seemed remote and not willing to resolve any problems and the worst of all the hotels we visited. we did visit the spa and they were far more approachable and was very recommended.

Room Tip: visit the mini tea factory, the man is very enthusiastic and has good knowledge.

This hotel is an old tea factory. It's a unique hotel and unlike anywhere I have ever stayed.

The welcome cup of tea was just the start of an amazing stay.

The drive up to the hotel is a bit of a journey, but once you're there the views of the tea plantations are fantastic. The rooms aren't anything spectacular, but the hotel itself has so much personality it doesn't matter.

We were offered the chance to dine in the train carriage restaurant for the price of £50 each. We were not disappointed. The 9 (yes NINE!) course menu was the best meal we had on the trip, and we ate a LOT of good food. The service was great and we even got to meet the chef.

HIGHLY recommended
