Had one night here on a trip to Sri Lanka in October. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would definitely return. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the services were good also. It's a bit dated but then again that's what they trade on. The hot water bottle in the bed wasn't necessary but nice all the same.

Room Tip: we were on the first floor which afforded a lovely view.

We stayed here as part of an Exodus tour of Sri Lanka. Walking into the building was like going back in time. It was cold when we were there, and the single bar electric fire was just about adequate. The hot water bottles were very welcome! The men borrowed jackets and ties so that we could eat in the main dining room. The food was a bit disappointing, but the setting made the meal memorable. We left early the next morning and were provided with a good packed breakfast. It wouldn't suit everyone, but overall an interesting experience.

If you have a choice, avoid this Hotel. The staff is not trained and have the worst possible service. Food taste also was bad. We stayed there for one night, rooms were fine. However it was a nightmare trying to get the food we ordered. The staff did not understand basic stuff and they could not get the food stated in the menu. Also during the bill payment, they wrongly added stuff to the bill. Avoid this hotel if you are looking for good food and hotel service.

Room Tip: Avoid the hotel if possible

If you've ever wondered what it would be like to live in Downton Abbey times, stay at the Hill Club. It's like walking back in time at least a hundred years, and they are serious about their fussy, old-fashioned rules. Gentlemen must wear a coat and tie if they wish to dine in the dining room or get a drink in the "Mixed Bar", for example.

Our room was big and clean, with stairs that led down to the ensuite bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed staying there and had a great time.

We really enjoyed the stay in this heritage style hotel . The style of the hotel amazing really . British coffee planters built this hotel during their stay .The room was clean and tidy . Although noises while walking inside the room bec. Of the wood ground of the room . But really it is classic antique room . After arrival they provide us hot water bags . Me and my family members really likes the staff here . The way they treat us :Cooperative, friendly, respective and smiling always . One notice paper written in the room door from hospital management advising the all quests not to give tips to the staff as a respect to the hotel and to keep it in the gifts box for the staff . The breakfast was not buffet . That is the only things we didnot like . The golf yard available here with 18 holes . We had great stay really . I would like from here to give thnks to all the staff of hill club from bahrain kingdom .

I think the previous reviewers who suggested the rooms and amenities at the hill club need updating have rather missed the point, The hill club was a 19th century gentleman's club for planters which, whilst still operating as a club, now accepts guests. It's charm is its elegance and the ability to gaze into a bygone era.

The rooms were clean, warm and comfortable although not in the way a modern 4 star hotel would provide. The building is fabulous and appears not to have changed much since the 1930s when the club had its hey day, The food at our five course dinner was average but the service by a plethora of white gloved waiters was exceptional. A tie and jacket is compulsory in the formal dressing room, but have no fear, they can lend you one as long as you have decent shoes. We then sat by the open fire in the lounge over brandy and local tea and round off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We particularly liked the hot water bottles which were placed in our beds 15mins prior to our departure from the restaurant.

We loved this place and felt it was thoroughly worth the 130 dollars. Stay here for the experience. if you want a sterile, characterless generic four star hotel go to the Novotel!
