“In love with this place”
Reviewed November 12, 2013

It just make us feel stay at home. They have very nice staff and good cook. The said place has 3 rooms upstarirs. It's lucky that we're the only guests that night. And of course, we enjoyed the biggest one with great view of whole town.

Since it's located on the hill, it's very inconvenient to hang out in the night time. That's why we decided to have dinner at hotel. Price is very reasonable and taste is above our imgaination. A lot of guys has mentioned that it's very cool in the evening. The nice staff borrowed us one heater that completely rescued us.

According to our original plan, we will go to nearby farm for morning time activity. But we both enjoyed our stay there. Then we cancelled our plan and stayed in the outdoor balcony doing nothing.

Hope more and more people could get to there.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Villa de Roshe as a part of our Sri Lanka vacation. We planned to stay for 2 nights but ended up staying overnight instead.

Location - Nuwara Eliya is in the mountain side of the country, about 2 miles above sea level. The province is drop dead gorgeous, with lush forests and mountains, rolling hills peppered with beautiful tea plantations. It is very cold in this region so appropriate clothing must be worn. The hotel is located at a very high area of the province, and the place is hard to find, particularly because their hotel direction signs are incredibly small. We spent half an hour just trying to locate the place. Bigger hotel direction signs are definitely required. Further up from Nuwara Eliya is a region called Ambewella, an equally lush mountain side area with Sri Lanka's best dairy farms open to public visits. Visit the New Zealand Farm for an interesting tour of the dairy farm, and an opportunity to buy delicious cheese and milk. Be warned about the smell, as in any farm, it will hit you quite hard. The natural beauty of this area is worth visiting despite the 2 hour journey from Nuwara Eliya to Ambewella.

Room - The room was lovely, with a large comfortable bed, large windows with a great view of the lush land. The bathroom was large however, toiletries provided were grossly insufficient, and the hot water in the shower changed temperature erratically, making it very hard to take a comfortable bath. This is a big problem as the climate was freezing and hot water is imperative. The design of the room was modern with a European influence. The other problem in the room was the heater. It was simply too weak and did not do a good job warming our room. Because of this, we had to sleep under many layers of blankets.

Hotel Facilities - The living and dining room were well furnished with modern furniture. There was a small viewing deck where you could lounge and soak up the view.

Food and Dining - DO NOT EAT in the hotel. This is the WORST part of the experience we had. We arrived late night so had no choice but to eat in the hotel as we were too tired to venture out. The house keeper, a gentleman, did his best to cook us dinner, but the food was simply HORRIBLE. We were served a rock hard beef curry, and tinned fish curry. I knew the food was not properly cooked, and true enough, that entire evening, I suffered from stomach pains, vomiting and other unpleasant toilet relief problems. I was completely dehydrated and so, we decided to leave the place and head back to Colombo 1 day earlier than planned. Unfortunately, because we left early, we had no opportunity to explore the province.

Overall, I will return to Nuwara Eliya but will opt to stay in a larger hotel like the Heritance Tea Factory or the Langdale. These hotels are more equipped to handle large scale guests, albeit more costly. I will not return to Villa de Roshe. Too many issues they need to address: Hot water issue, room heater issue, poor direction signs, and horrible, horrible, horrible food.

Room Tip: There are only 3 rooms in the hotel. All are equally good looking. However, I am sure all rooms have...

Arrived late and Raja was kind enough to provide sandwiches. It rained and the forecast was rain for the the whole week. Shortened the stay and left nuwara eliya. *Better to check the weather before going to Nuwara Eliya.
due to the rain, unable to see the view the room affords.
nice room - only grouse is the hot water ran out quickly for 1 shower and needed to wait awhile for the heater to heat up the water for the next bather.

Room Tip: There are 3 rooms. If you like lots of windows, choose the center room - believe it's called Al...

We had a great stay at Villa de Roshe. The rooms were extremely nice - large, very comfortable bed and huge bathrooms. Heaters were provided when requested (definitely ask for these as it was getting cold at night in September!) This is definitely a boutique hotel, it would be great for honeymooners (only 3 rooms in the place). Breakfast was comprehensive and filling. We stayed here and used tuk tuks to get up and down to the town at 200 rupees each way - it's a little out of town but makes up for it with a stunning view. Definitely a treat - it's a little more expensive than other places we stayed in Sri Lanka!

This is a brand new guesthouse, and the rooms are clean and the furniture is nice. The bed are comfy, and the bathroom big. The only problem was maybe the size of the warm water tank. Only enough for one shower. The guesthouse is located a ten minute drive from the city center.

The service was great, and the Sri Lankan dinner was really good!

Nuwara Eliya is not much to brag about, a park and a lake, but there are tea plantations and Hortons Plain is near. The train ride to/from Kandy and Ella is also very nice. If you are stopping in Nuwara Eliya I recommend this place!

Very nice, quiet place. Was there with the family, everybody enjoyed. Make sure you get the directions correctly before arriving as the place is a little hard to find. Other than that, we had a perfect holiday. Food was good and the place had a very nice view of Nuwara Eliya City. Will certainly visit again.

Wow!!! We were so lucky to find this villa, the owners have got everything right to make your stay absolutely perfect. The bed is so comfy, huge soft pillows, and ours looked directly out towards the mountain and lake. We had piano music playing at breakfast time, it all just feels so opulent. The caretaker and chef are happy to do anything to make your stay happy and memorable, tho just being there is memorable enough. I'm so very pleased we chose to stay here, was the highlight of our trip after quite a few exhausting days in the cultural triangle.
