“Nice guesthouse, with balcony”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

We spent a comfortable couple of nights here. The rooms on one side are dark and small, but on the restaurant side of the building, they are brighter and newer looking. we had a quiet room, with a balcony (and a hairdryer was a nice addition when it's chilly!). On the downside, the window in the bathroom didn't close properly, so it was a bit cold when showering. Decent rates (negotiable - just try walking back out of the guesthouse to look elsewhere).

Nice house on the outside, but that is about it. Inside it couldn't be more shabby and griny. The rooms are not clean, have stains on the carpet, the sheets are dirty, the bathrooms are full of mold, the towels look like they have not been washed for months. The boiler was placed inside the shower cabin (if you can call it a shower cabin). The staff was not helpful, nor friendly at all.
After seeing the kitchen of this place, we did not even dare to touch the breakfast. Moreover, cups were dirty, the water dispenser was full of algae, cutlery was dirty, and so on...
Conclusion: for us, never again; there are many nicer places to stay in Nuwara Eliya.

Started off badly - we asked the hotel to arrange a tuktuk from the station (wrong!), driver asked for twice as much - we were tired, and compromised. As we went for a walk, the cook demanded to know if we were having dinner, we hadn't really made up our mind.
Extra charge for WiFi!
Room was OK, food was OK, serving staff very friendly.
Argument on checkout, extra charge for second coffee with (included) breakfast. Took 2 phone calls to believe me when I said we didn't have a bottle of water with dinner. Advertised credit card machine "not working" - of course.

All in all, glad to go to somewhere more friendly.

For a good reasonably priced meal, try the Grand Indian, near the Grand Hotel - excellent.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere!

We stayed there one night.

The place was ok: clean and nice. Breakfast not incredible.

We were really cold at night, the blankets are too light for the local weather (really freezing at night).

If you wish to organize a trip to visit tea factories, go negotiate directly with tuktuk first. The manager of the hotel offered us something really expensive. We found something for hall the price.
