Midky provided us with two big rooms which were very comfortable and warm - which is just as well as we arrived in a rainstorm! The staff were courteous and helpful and there was free wifi throughout the hotel and the kids were given a hot water bottle each. The food was also good, although there is no bar area as such, and after finishing dinner it would have been nice to retire for a post-dinner drink as the hotel itself is a few km out of town. All in all, the hotel was excellent value and the rooms were finished to a good standard.

We arrived at Midky hotel to a warm welcome from all the staff and we were given hot towels and hot chocolate. We had a wonderful stay in one of the rooms at the front of the hotel with spectacular views of the hills. The staff were very helpful during our 3 night stay- they even gave us a waterbottle to take to bed each night as it does get chilly in the evenings. We had the dinner on one of the nights and it was very good. The breakfast was excellent - lots of fresh fruit and yummy pancakes. This is a fantastic hotel on the outskirts of nuwara Eliya - we loved the location as it is much nicer here than in the main town. Very good value for money.
Thank you to all the staff at Midky for a lovely stay!

Early this year I was holidaying in Sri Lanka and though it was 6 months ago I want to share our experience at this hotel... We stayed at Midky as a last resort – the hotel we had originally booked was inaccessible due to floods. We probably should have made Midky our first choice. They rose to the occasion accommodating all of us even though they were booked out – and we were treated with the traditional Sri Lankan hospitality that we would expect at a close friend’s home. Building works were in progress, the wet weather made accessing it a bit hard and messy at times – but the service was excellent. The food was good and I was especially impressed when I was served kiri hodi on the house without asking for it just because they had heard me say I liked it…. The owner Manjula was an excellent host and we thoroughly enjoyed his hospitality. – Fathima Cader – Melbourne, Australia

A distance from the town centre but otherwise the location has a very good view of fields and tea plantations. The staff are very friendly and the room is clean and spacious. A car is definitely a must.

first the room was lovely. The bathroom was also nice to look at but... The hot water didn't work and the drain didn't drain.. both quickly fixed. As previously mentioned the room had a musty smell. Didnt try the dinners as we were told there was lots going on in town, which was 2ks or so down the road. I understand they didn't have a chef that night. So.. all in all.. average and we slept well. But next time we'd probably try somewhere else on the lake side of town.

Location: On the winding road from Kandy, about 10-15 min walk downhill to Nuwara Eliya centre. Most other guest houses/hotels seem to be on the other side of town but that doesn't really matter if you have a driver or don't mind walking.

Rooms: spacious, huge bed, very nice en suite shower room, pretty view on to the hills. However there seemed to be a problem with damp which you could smell in the bathroom and the hall outside, plus the sheets didn't ever seem 100% dry - we asked for new ones and even they felt slightly damp!

Service: Friendly if a bit slow. Owner brought hot water bottles to rooms in the evening which was a nice touch, even though we didn't think it was particularly cold! Service at mealtimes was very slow considering there were never more than a handful of people in there. Allow at least 45 mins for breakfast.

Food: big restaurant space considering its a pretty small place! Breakfast - lots of it! Eggs, waffles, fruit. Pretty standard stuff. Sri Lanka rice and curry for dinner was good, one of the spicier ones I had. The menu has local and international food; the local stuff is definitely better.

Overall: not a bad place to stay, forgetting the damp for a moment. However it was probably £20-25 overpriced for what it was (£55-£60/night) so not sure I would stay again; I would probably pay an extra £30 and go for one of the posher places in the area.
