We called and booked a room with one price. I double-checked the price. The next morning when we checked out, they asked as almost double price. Of course it was my fault not to check the price again when we arrived, but as we haven't had any problems in other hotels, I guess we were too trustful. And of course it was my fault to sign papers before they filled in the price number. They added higher price to the papers after and then claimed, that I had signed it myself. If I had seen the price, we had left. Anyway, we argued with them from some time and refused to pay higher price. They said that breakfast was included and in the morning, it was not included any more. Of course we did not take it. Finally they just gave up and we paid the price they had promised on the phone + 10% which they also did not mention before. The rooms were in poor condition and for this servicce I do not recomment it to anyone. I am sure you will find much nicer and cheaper accomondation in Nuwara Eliya.

We booked it in advance without seeing the room. When we arrived, we almost check-out again as the room was not clean and the bathroom neither. However, after asking the staff cleaned it.
Finally, we slept very well, the bed being confortable and the room not noisy.
They organized for us a tour to Horton Plains national park which was very good value (very cheap).

We stayed in the Single Tree Hotel for 4 nights and in the end we can see it was a total rip off! It was freezing cold in the entire hotel and while we we're promised an extra blanket many times we never got one. Also the 'restaurant' was full of flies. We did have hot water. The trips they arranged for us where good, but this and the room where overpriced! In the end they even charged us service costs on the room! Ridiculous!

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get ripped off!

We were booked into this hotel for two nights in February. Accommodation was in short supply and this appeared to be the only hotel available on the Internet. The reviews had been mixed so we decided to chance it. This was a big mistake. The hotel is dark, gloomy, dirty, musty and damp. The renovations were of very poor quality and we just couldn't face staying there, no matter that we were desperate.

Our driver fortunately came to our aid. A couple of quick phone calls and he had us safely ensconced at the wonderful Mount View Cottage. Shiromi and her family run a lovely accommodation. If they don't have space, ring them anyway. They can help place you at a comfortable hotel nearby.

The big lesson we learnt in Sri Lanka is to always ask the driver if they know of alternatives and ring the hotel even if they appear to be fully booked online.

Room Tip: Do not go anywhere near this place. The owner needs to understand that he is in a service industry...

We didn't stay here, but we were told that they arranged excellent tours of Horton Plains National Park. So we booked a tour and were not disappointed. Our guide, Nimal Hareth, was extremely well informed, very sharp eyed and great fun to be with. Without him it would have been a great walk in a lovely place, but with him we saw rare birds, exotic lizards, a huge range of flowers and plants native to Sri Lanka and the elusive bear monkeys! You can contact Nimal via the Single Tree Hotel, and he also does freelance guiding. Contact number 0094 776 189 824.
