to be fair i have to say first that we didn't stay at the hotel. we took a tour with them, which was enough to get a sample of their attitude. the deal was to get a jeep for two people to the horton plains for 3500 rs or for 1000rs a person if there are more people, which is fair enough. we ended up being a group of 6 people, which was already a good deal for the guest house since they got 6000rs for the jeep. the first bummer was that we got an unconfortable jeep instead of a van like everybody else.
the entrance fee for the national park is a mix of group and individual fees, so the more people you are in a group the cheaper it gets for one person. the driver asked each one of us for the money and went to buy the ticket. after the hike in the park i asked the driver for the ticket. he started to act a bit strange and nervous and "forgot" about the request. we thought that this was a bit suspicious, so we kept insisting. basically he never ended up showing us our ticket, having different excuses. since he had tons of other receipts in his pockets the fact that he had to hand over the ticket at the entrance for sure wasn't true. eventually he gave us some other four day old ticket of a group of 2. based on the prices on the ticket we calculated the cost for our group, which was 200rs less a person (1200 in total) than the driver had asked us for. instead of admitting the mistake the driver just stopped talking to us. imagine if he does that every day!
when we arrived back at the guest house we told the staff there, but instead of just blaming the driver to keep their reputation clean they insantly started to make up excuses (different $-rate, that we got a cheaper price because they called ahead, blablabla...). after insisting they suggested to give us part of the money back.... of course we kept insisting until they gave us the whole 200/person, while doing that the guy at the guest house was having a bad mouth.... excuse me sir, who tried to cheat, you or us????
a lot of fuss for little money, but it's just not right and i hope they stop things like that. it really seems like beeing mentioned in the newest lonely planet issue has really spoilt their attitude.
it just seems even worse since the had already made a good deal and were still greedy to squeeze more money out of the tourists....
my advice: just stay away of this place!
