We came here with high expectations having read a very favourable review in Lonely Planet.

Unfortunately, the food is disappointingly average. While you will undoubtedly be tempted by the dazzling buffet, we do not recommend it. The individual dishes are not well executed, some overcooked, some bland, and the desserts taste like ready made products from a supermarket. The house wine was rancid and to be avoided at all costs. The ala carte items are also of the average variety. For all the sizzling that accompanies the sea food platter, most of the items are overcooked and not entirely fresh.

If however you are not too concerned about the food and would like a nice place to unwind over a drink, then by all means visit the Old Course Restaurant. One can also spend time at the adjacent bar which has a comforting fire place, live music, and if you must check your blackberry, strong wifi.

Whilst the setting of the hotel itself was lovely and a drink in the bar beforehand was very enjoyable, the meal itself was a bit of a let down. Service was slow and perfunctory and the food was some of the most disappointing food we had on our entire trip. Sadly not worth the money.

After wondering for the whole afternoon where to eat in Nuwara Eliya, we decided to skip the dinner offered at our guesthouse, (chicken curry with rice) to go to the St. Andrews, with big expectations after the fantastic 3 days we spent in the sister Jetwing Hotel Vil Udyana.
Unfortunately the chefs of the Jetwing chain are not trained together. So rich, tasty and well presented was the food in Sigiriya, so average was the meal in Nuwara Eliya.
The buffet was average and generally tasteless (apart from the Sri Lankan section). There was an interesting Mongolian dish prepared on the spot but there was a very long queue and we didn't try that. After tasting the buffet, we ordered a la carte. We got the same Sri Lankan food at the buffet and grilled pork chops and ribs. Did I order grilled? They were deep fried and, most importantly, stiking.
We did not touch the chops and we left most of the Sri Lankan food served a la carte (as we had already tried it). On the other side, the staff was great: perfect service, moreover they understood that something had gone wrong with our meal and they just offered everything we had at the buffet including the desserts. They were very polite and apologetic. Unfortunately, food @ 2 + service @ 5 doesn't average 3.5, the overall rating must be a 2

We went here with high expectations. The food is not interesting at all. The 'fusion of Asian and Western food is a faux. If you're boring and one of those people who like their routine meals and don't like to try cuisines from the country they visit then this is for you. Boring and average.

Good variety of local and international food. Not much of a service although very prompt when help is needed. Big dining area, so it tends to reduce the cosiness of the place overall.
