Heard about borderlands from a friend so went along with a few buddies not knowing what to expect. The rafting was such a thrill but to top if off we then did cannonying which was something I'd never heard of let alone done. The whole experience was awesome and something I'd totally reccommend. Food views and entertainment was excellent and could not find fault with a thing. Cheers :-)

We arrived at Borderlands mid afternoon after a delayed train journey worried we'd missed the days activities. Luckily the camp was quiet with just one other family who arrived at the same time so we were able to have a quick, delicious lunch then go for some rafting. The team are professional and concerned for safety, while allowing a great fun experience including a refreshing swim in the river. We had a chance to try canyoning the next day which i was nervous about but this was a real highlight - challenging jumps off cliffs into the river, slides over rocks etc. As the 9yr old with us said, it's scary, but also awesome! Great location in a valley surrounded by mountains - amazing views from your tent right over the river. Tents were good with camp beds so you weren't sleeping on the floor, only thing they lacked was a mosquito net, we had our own though. There are lots of bugs around camp - mostly harmless flying critters though they can be a bit annoyingin the evening - meals are taken in the common area which is an outdoor shelter so they're attracted to the light. No big worry, just ignore them and perhaps put some citronella out near your sitting area. Bring an ipod as they have a docking station or your laptop - they have free wifi and there's no town nearby so this will be your nights entertainment - we were in bed fairly early as tired from the river and got to watch a thunderstorm over the mountain - better than a movie! Food (great value buffet with some amazing sri lankan curries and even hoppers and dhal for breakfast alongside western options. Much better value than most guesthouse breakfasts) included in package with overnight stay in the tents and 2 activities per day. Highly recommend and hope to return one day.

I had the opportunity to do the multi-day trip down the Mahaweli with Borderlands a couple weeks ago. First, the overall format of the trip is wonderful and you get exposure to very remote areas of Sri Lanka....there is an amazing amount of birdlife and we also were lucky enough to see a group of wild elephants at dusk. More importantly, the guides for the trip were great and very well organised. They made sure all the details were covered and everyone got the most out of the 4 days...if you enjoy getting away from everything this is a great trip.

Dear SteveSgln
Thanks so much for traveling to Sri Lanka to join us on our Mahaweli River Expedition - the journey is indeed a unique and wonderful opportunity to see a part of the country that most will never be lucky enough to visit. I hope that this will not the last time we see you in Sri Lanka and invite you to come and stay with us at our riverfront camp in Kithulgala next time you are visiting.
Best wishes

We stayed with my two boys 9 and 10 and my wife in one of the tents on a platform over the river. It's basic, but beautiful. My boys enjoyed the river rafting, though kids can only do a short run on the bottom of the river - which the helpful staff let us know before hand. The food was great - it was a Sri Lankan buffet that was some of the best we ate in the country. The highlight of our trip - and we didn't even plan to do this - was canyoning. It was challenging but fun. My boys absolutely loved it.

Friendly staff, superb location and exciting activities. The care and attention shown to children was particularly impressive, giving them a real adventure experience with the highest possible safety standards. The 'wet' part refers to the river - not the weather!

l was at Borderlands last Saturday with my wife Nisha and two kids(Thenuk 9 years and Ehansa 6 years) . It's about a two hour drive from Colombo.
The day we arrived we went hiking during which we made some daring jumps off cliffs and slides in to the deep springs along the Kelani River. I was blessed with a great opportunity which made me discover how brave Thenuk and Ehansa were. I thought 6 year old Ehansa who jumped off a 25 ft cliff 6 times in a row was the bravest of the lot.
Wade's highly skilled and experienced staff gave us immense confidence that anyone irrespective of his age is in safe hands with them.
The dinner spread had a great diversity from Srilankan authentic to western.
Wade being a provisional musician himself entertained us with live music which I thought was the highlight of the evening.
The next day we were all ready to go on a rafting expedition when my wife fell sick and unfortunately we were compelled to miss it but we had no fear in sending our kids as we new they were in safe hands.
I'm so thankful to Wade Yohan Gwen Carl Kosala Nirmal and the rest of the team at Borderlands for your warm hospitality and excellent service provided to us and wish you success in all your endeavours.

The facilities are very good, staff members are very kind people and were friendly with us.

River level was low and we were still able to have lots of fun down the rivers & rapids in kayaks.
Canyoning was also a very nice activity for all ages, people ranking from 6 years old up to over 50 and everyone enjoyed !

Food was also good even for a Canadian like me spending time in Sri-Lanka ;-)

Thanks for the adventure Borderlands team ! !

Alex
