“A Hotel who enjoys tranquility”
Reviewed March 8, 2014

Leading architect Mr.Jeffry Bava's design concept hotel. the hotel is a ideal place for those who love tranquility. And there is no much activities for those looks for active vacation. Award winning culinary art chefs food is one of the attractions for the most guests.

Room Tip: Rooms are really in good condition no second thoughts required.

Second time @ Heritance Ahungalla.

The hotel is luxurious en the staff correct en very considerate.
The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable.

The restaurant has a large variety of the finest fresh food. The kitchen has been awarded with the gold medal for New Sri Lankan Cuisine in the Culinary Arts 2011 competition organised by the Chefs Guild of Sri Lanka.

The beach-attendants give you the feeling you are a VIP.

The undertoe in the sea was strong and we had a red flag all week. I guess this was exceptional for this time of year.

We will surely return to this hotel.

Room Tip: The seaview rooms are wonderfull. The rooms above the poolbar are somewhat noisy, due to the lifemu...

It was only because of the hotels staff that my 2 nights stay here from being a horrible one to a very good experience. We checked in very late one evening and were given rooms above the coffee shop grill which meant that the rooms were full of the grill seafood smoke. A few minutes inside the rooms we started feeling like grilled fish ourselves. Upon request for room change we were told that the hotel was full and our request thus denied. Dinner at the coffee shop was a pretty sad affair too. The chicken that we were served was so hard that I am sure if I'd thrown it at a passerby that person would get hurt. After a stroll on the beach when we came to our rooms past midnight we realized that there was no water supply in the rooms due to some maintenance work and that it'd be restored around 2 am. That too did not happen. Our arms full of woes we met the Resident Manager Sampath De Silva and were surprised that he offered no arguments but only an apology. From that point onwards our stay turned into heaven. Mr Sampath offered to change our rooms and the staff went out of their way to be helpful, courteous and friendly. I'd particularly like to mention manager Praveen from the restaurants who made sure that the fare that was served to us was excellent. I'd recommend that future travellers take advantage of an exclusive special table d' hote that they arrange on the beach. The experience is put of the world.

Housekeeping was helpful, he tried very hard to please us
and cleaned twice a day.
Showers need a good clean up especially the tiles which had black spots.
Dining room: Large variety of foods for curry and spicy food lovers, great deserts.

Room Tip: we had a garden room with access to pool which gave us privacy and great view

My wife and I have just spent 10 nights here half board Feb 2014. This was our first holiday in Sri Lanka and all being well we shall be returning before too long. Having read other guest reviews before booking The Heritance it was pleasing that the standards were as described in the more favourable descriptions. The staff with very few exceptions were all obliging and friendly and the service they gave was by and large very good. Our room with sea view was just to the side of, and overlooking the swimming pool on the top (third) floor. A nice room and location apart from odd occasions when music from the hotel beach party became very loud, although it has to be said not too late at night. The guests were truly a global mix but a small minority (not connected with the Corporate bash) encamped by the pool frequently chose to disregard the "no diving" sign or maybe could not read English! So best sit in the bar area not too close to the water to avoid being splashed. Dining is buffet style and the standard and variety of dishes on offer was good. However, in our opinion standards slipped a notch over the 2-3 days the hotel catered for 250-300 attendees of a major European corporate function. We usually ate dinner around 8.00pm but to make sure of not being disappointed I think it is probably advisable to be there early doors as a few dishes were not kept replenished frequently enough. Drinks and food prices are reasonable (perhaps with the exception of wines) but the guest is not given a copy of each bill. Therefore in our experience it proved prudent to ask the hotel for an updated statement of account every couple of days as mistakes did happen no matter how unintentional. As for the locals selling their wares on the beach we found them to be real characters who love the banter. OK they are a bit persistent but the stuff is the same as in the nearest town and prices are the same after a good bit of bartering. No tuk tuk ride away either. On the subject of tips to the room cleaners, porters, etc.100 rupees (50p) to show appreciation is a small amount (all hotel bills have tax and gratuities added automatically so no need to tip extra if you don't want) and after seeing a sign in Colombo offering breakfast AND dinner for 100 rupees it brought it home to us just how fortunate we are.

Ceylan (Sri Lanka) is astonishing! Unfortunately this seaside hotel was the worse in our journey around Sri Lanka. Even if it's classified 5 stars, on reality it is not. The hotel needs a huge renovation ( a must for the 80's superb architecture from very well known Sri Lanka architect), the cleanliness could be much better and the staff (almost all of them very friendly) should have better management and be more professional. Even though ( even next time going visit Ceylan is better booking and hotel north of Colombo, because is near the cultural and forest tours), the stay was relaxing and, for a change at the far east beaches, there were 26º C 3 meter waves to brake....

Room Tip: rooms 301 till 317, avoid rooms above the grilled buffet restaurant or rooms at the far rigth far aw...

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of our tour of Sri Lanka for a bit of R&R by the pool. The design of the hotel is fantastic designed around the landscape with trees and pools around every corner. The swimming pools and garden areas were great including the local lizards and chipmunks providing poolside entertainment. The food was great in the restaurants we tried. As it was valentines day we had a special dinner on the beach and the food was fantastic, as was the spectacularly cheesy entertainment, it hard to stop laughing at some points but it just added to the experience. My wife had a massage in the spa and assured me it was very good and the price was reasonable for a resort hotel like this. Now for a few minor gripes I have. Firstly the rooms could just do with a little TLC to bring them up to the standard I would expect (a couple of light switches did not work, a little paintwork peeling etc.) Secondly while many of the staff were excellent there were a couple who let the side down, some of the staff seemed intent on giving you the bill for drinks and soon as you put down an empty glass rather than offering more drinks, it just seemed like they did not trust you to sign the bill and wanted to get you before you ran away. Also the prices did not include service charge or government tax which meant 20% was added on top of everything, why not just include this in the price? All in all we had a very enjoyable stay they could just improve a couple of things ot make it even better.
