“restaurant is called Sunshine”
Reviewed December 25, 2013

We discovered this restaurant on day 2 of our holiday. The food is so fresh it swims off your plate. A great selection of fish, brought from the market daily. We tried prawn curry, tiger prawns, jumbo prawns, and coral fish. We chose the grilled option, with garlic butter, vegetable rice, noodles and of course chips. The noodles were a particular favourite of my wife's. The menu is extensive and includes pork, calimari, salads in addition to the wide selection of fish, most of which I have never heard of ! There are outdoor and indoor seating options.
Make no mistake, this is a simple beach restaurant, having been rebuilt after the 2004 tsunami, producing tasty fresh food, and well worth a visit.
turn right from the Heritance Hotel and walk for 10 mins. The owner, Berty, is a welcoming host who will meet and greet you, explaining the menu and offering all all manner of useful information about the local area. Enjoy ! We did. 4 times.

“Simply interior and really tasteful”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

Its the nearest place to eat from Heritance Ahungalle. I hope the owner dont change the quality of meal. Its really tasteful and too big plates for one person. Prices are cheaper than in Bentota.
Only there I ate the most tasteful tuna fish.
Staff are not as proffesionals waiters, but they really were tried to do the best.
I reccomended this place)

“Only choice at this beach strip”
Reviewed March 6, 2012

We visited the restaurant for lunch. It was simply disappointing and we will not do it again. It maid be that we are a little bit spoiled from our Thailand holidays but neither the quality of the food nor the price can compete if you compare this place with standard Thai beach restaurants. However there is no other choice at this beach strip as this is the only one apart from another place which is really a ruin and I would not even buy a drink there

“Dinner and sunset on the Beach”
Reviewed March 4, 2012

I believe the proper name of this restaurant is Sunshine. Great location at the north end of pristine Ahungala Beach, Sunshine restaurant offers inexpensive grilled seafood, chicken and Sri Lankan fare in a rustic setting. Drop in after 5pm to enjoy a beautiful sunset with dinner. Service is friendly and you can select the fish you'd like them to prepare for you. Everything is cooked from scratch in their small kitchen on the beach so this is not the place if you are in a hurry. Bring bug spray for your ankles as the mosquitoes come out at dusk.
