“Kuramathi exceeds expectations again!”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

We returned to Kuramathi as it has everything, beautiful beaches, best snorkelling, unbelievable food for an A.I (definitely upgrade to the select all in) and the friendliest staff in the world. We have a two year old and there is no doubt that the maldivians love children. She was treated like a princess, and every day the waiters in the various restaurants would make paper structures of birds, animals, flowers, I could go on!

Ahmed in the island grill deserves a very special mention, very talented and destined to be a top artist, I'm surprised why the resort don't swap his job to island artist and pop him in his own shop. He is clearly a very good waiter and chef (cooking the steak dianes in front of you) Something they are clearly missing and I think most people would love to take their own little piece of kuramathi away in the form of a canvas. Kuramathi management please take note!!
Sameeh in the Indian is also a lovely guy and encouraged us to take on the local staff at football which was great fun!
The food was once again great, the Reef my favourite (no under 6's here) but we found a babysitter! The palm (Italian) island grill and Thai also superb!
The snorkelling in the house reef is something to behold, barracudas, stingrays and large reef sharks (up to 6 foot) frequent the waters and nothing is harmful and all a one minute swim from the beach. You could also be sunbathing and a baby reef shark could beach himself in an attempt to gain lunch with some small fish!
So no negatives with maybe the exception being the Mosquitos and large ants which are common in all over. Unfortunately I think the island is too large to fumigate and we all had some quite nasty bites, that's nature and not the resort's fault though!

So if you are a family with young children and want to go to the Maldives, Kuramathi is without doubt the place to go!

I would thoroughly recommend this island to anyone thinking of going to the maldives! The staff are very attentive and will help in anyway they can. There are lots of activities which usually have plently of spaces to book on to. We did the sunset cruise, which is a must and had booked the snorkel safari, unfortunately we didn't manage to go due to strogn winds on the day. Snorkels are included with your room and the island has many snorkelling points though and an excellent house reef, where many tropical fish, rays and sharks can be seen! We also tried some scuba diving which was amazing and the staff spent much time going over the safety aspects which was excellent! I only wish I had done it earlier in the week so I could complete my PADI certification. There are numberous restaurants, and I would thoroughly recommend upgrading to the all-inclusive packege which includes these, although for the island bbq and the reef restaurant make sure you get up early to book your table as they are taken up quickly!!
I had a massage at the spa in a room that over looked the sea. It was complete heaven and very reasonably priced! A definite must!
I was very sad to leave Kuramathi and my boyfriend and I will definitely be visiting again!!

If you are looking for paradise then go here.
Cannot fault any aspect of this place.
We had an all inclusive package through kuoni and they catered for everything. We stayed for 14 nights, it is a relax on beach type holiday rather than action packed and sight seeing.
Will be going again.

Everyday I wake up, I wish I was on Kuramathi. This was the holiday of a lifetime and I know nothing will ever equal it.

Weather
We went in the second half of July and had been warned about rain, but we needant have worried. The weather was glorious! One day it rained, for all of 20 minutes.

Food
I emplore everyone who can to upgrade from all inclusive to the À la carte option. It gives you the freedom of all the restaurants rather than the one buffet you are assigned. The prices in the restaurants are astronomical because of the transport costs, and the only thing not covered by the À la carte is lobster. We averages $250 a night on our meal out ($2500 in food, and the upgrade had been free or around £2-400 if you took the room upgrade).

Things to do
Snorkelling was amazing, but you do have to go out to the outer reef to see things as the coral sand makes the inner reef water quite cloudy (waves kicking up the sand), nearly swam into a stingray by accident.
Trip to the neighbouring island - Rasdhoo. I would advise avoiding it. Its just tourist shops and nothing else. You are on the island for 2 hours and after 30 mins everyone on the excusion was on the dock staring at Kuramathi longing to be back.
Sunset cruise - very pretty. Warning is you rent the water villas with Jacuzzi, the sunset cruises drive past you daily.
Relax - this is Kuramathi's speciality. No stress, no worries and limitless cocktails.

Accomodation
We had the deluxe beach villa with Jacuzzi. I would recommend this above the water villas as you get complete privacy (7 ft walls in the back garden).

Transfers
Get the sea plane. The boat is a long trek and you can't sleep because you are being tossed side to side by the waves. The plane (if its on time) is 20 mins and an experience.
Transfers is the only thing I will fault the resort on, they are a complete shambles. When we arrived at the beginning of our honeymoon, we had to sit in the airport for 2 hours waiting for the boat to be ready.

Truely amazing island, think about this holiday everyday and wish I could live there. As said, only fault is the shoddy transfers to the island.

Room Tip: Deluxe beach villa is a must. Jacuzzi is a bonus, but we didn't use it a lot as it we were sun b...

We booked Kuramathi through Kuoni as the second half of our honeymoon, and are so glad we did.

Right from arriving at Male airport and being greeted, by the Kuoni greeter, you are so well looked after. The Kuramathi lounge at the Seaplane port lets you know the luxury you are in for once you get to the island, and it just gets better from there.

We were booked into a beach villa, but on arrival were upgraded to a Deluxe Beach Villa with Jacuzzi, this was great, although the Jacuzzi takes a while to heat up. The Villa was a ten step walk to the beach, right opposite one of the reef cut-through flags, so we were able to do plenty of wonderful snorkelling.

The restaurant we were allocated had great choice, and the same waiter (Nashid) every day, who couldn't be more helpful. We also went to the Beach BBQ for my birthday, were the meat was outstanding.
The sand bar is a great place at night, chilling out on beanbags looking at the stars listening to some chill out music.

The Dive school Rasdhoo, was superb also. Not only is it well equipped, but the staff are all fantastic people. We had many chats with Matt, the chap who runs it, who took a lot of time to listen and recommend dives to suit our experience (newly qualified open water). All the dives we did were excellent, and the guides are great at spotting fish etc that you may otherwise miss.

Overall a truly magical island, and we will definitely go back (one day!)

Negative... Probably only really the cost of wifi. Having paid a few grand a week for a room all inclusive, having to pay a pricey $4 an hour is a little excessive, and it does seem most other hotels offer free wifi these days, even if it was just half an hour a day or similar.

We first stayed on this island paradise in October 2011 & everything was perfect, so we decided to head back for another week or R&R in Oct 2012! We decided to go back at the same time of year as the weather had been so perfect last time but this time it was VERY different. It rained every day & was like a monsoon at night but this didnt ruin our trip at all!

Last time we stayed in a Water Villa & we loved waking up every morning to see the sharks swimming around with the "friendly" Trigger fish, but unfortunately, these were all fully booked the week we were going. So we decided to try out the Deluxe Water Villas with Jacuzzi which were available, but only for 3 nights so we opted to stay there for the first 3 nights, then move to a Beach Villa with Jacuzzi for the last 4 nights.

When we arrived at our DWV we LOVED it, we thought the one we had last year was fantastic but this was something else. The view out to sea, the gorgeous deck, the modern decor, the really comfy bed, everything was just perfect, we were even greeted by a sting ray swimming around the villa with some small reef sharks in tow! We were lucky enough to see lots of amazing fish swimming around the deck every day & even a pod of dolphins swimming by! It was really cosy sitting in the shaded corner as the rain lashed down just watching the fish swimming by! It was also close to The Palm so we could nip there easily for lunch or dinner in between rain showers on the worst weather days!

After 3 blissful nights we moved to the Beach Villa with Jacuzzi on the other side of the island. This was nice, but no where near as nice as the deluxe water villas. The outside shower is probably a really nice feature if the weather is good, but when it is pouring with rain, cool & windy with lots of mosquitoes around, I wasn't loving it!! The decor is also a little dated in comparison. We asked at reception if any other water villas were due to become available for the rest of our stay & we were lucky enough to move back to a different deluxe water villa a few doors down from our first one!
The weather was pretty bad for the whole week, however it didnt detract from our enjoyment one bit. There were plenty of breaks in the rain for us to lay out on the beach or snorkel, then when the rain came again we would just head to the coffee shop or the palm for some ice cream! Unfortunately the weather meant that the snorkel excursions were cancelled the whole week, but there was still plenty to see around the island itself. We were even lucky enough to see a manta ray!
The food was just as delicious as last time & I would definitely recommend upgrading to the top package. The buffet is nice, but the other restaurants are so much better & having that variety makes all the difference! The steak diane in the Island BBQ was as delicious as everyone said it would be & the home made ice cream in The Palm is worth the trip alone! The Italian is delicious, in fact, all of them are! We ate in each restaurant & we loved every one! The staff are always so friendly & welcoming.

We will definitely be back to this island paradise & we will definitely go back to the Deluxe Water Villa, it is an amazing experience not to be missed

Room Tip: The deluxe water villas with jacuzzi are amazing & worth every penny more
