“Good, but could be so much better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2011

We arrived at the resort just as the sun was setting due to a delay in Male whilst we waited for other international flights to land with passengers also going to Kuramathi by sea plane. This was frustrating as we lost two hours of our family holiday because other international flights were behind time. On arriving at the resort we checked in and were shown where our room was located on a map, the location we were shown was very close to reception so we decided to walk, we soon realized that we had been shown the wrong location on the map and some time later we arrived at our room, our two children aged 5 and 3 took it in their stride although Mum and Dad were a bit miffed. So, we are in our room, which was very nice and modern, clean and set back from the shore line in amongst several other beach villas with Jacuzzi. We set off for dinner at around 1930hrs and eventually we found the restaurant and were shown to our table where our waiter Usam would look after us for the next 5 days. Incidentally we opted for the basic all inclusive package, which suited us although the food became a bit boring by the end of day 3. The select all inclusive allows you to dine anywhere on the island, but if you want to go to the reef or the island grill, book early as it is always full for the next two or three days. The next day we headed to the kids club with our girls and we really cannot fault them in any way, the two girls that take care of the children were brilliant. However it was at this time we realized that our room location was less than ideal. We had quite a long walk to the restaurant and even further to the kids club, there is a mini van that runs up and down the island but our room location was not situated in a very good place to catch the mini van, when we did see it, it was already full and heading somewhere else. This situation was beginning to seriously undermine the "relaxing" element of our stay. We made our feeling known and the management and they moved us to a much better location, very close to the restaurant, the best beach area, the reception and most importantly the mini van pick up point. Things improved immediately and we really began to feel thatbwe were now in the Maldives. The snorkeling was fantastic and we took full advantage of the cocktail list whilst the kids were having their own fun in thte kids club. My main criticism of Kuramathi would be the food in the main restaurants. The lunches and evening meals are not very good at all. I would visit Kuramathi again because it does offer everything we need, but I did have to get quite pushy on a few issues where I felt Kuramathi's "policy" on certain topics were stacked in favor of the resort and overlooked the comfort and satisfaction of the guests. Finally we checked out at 1300hrs today, left the island at 1500hrs and at 1910hrs I am sitting at MLE waiting for our flight which is due to leave at 2040hrs. I felt our departure from Kuramathi was at least two hours premature, but it felt like they couldn't get rid of us fast enough. There wasn't even a thanks for coming and we hope to see you again one day. In summary the resort is beautiful and the rooms are very nice, the marine life is as you would expect, it is only the little things where Kuramathi needs to up it's game, because it may be classed as 4 star as averse to 5 star, bit it ain't cheap!

Where to start??????????

This place is amazing! So romantic, picturesque, great value, great service!

We stayed in a beach front villa (the basic/ cheapest room) for 9 nights in May.

We flew Emirates from bham through Dubai. Emirates are amazing and a great way to start your holiday in style.

We opted for the boat transfer which was ok. The sea was a bit choppy and my husband was stuck next to a poor woman who was very poorly with sea sickness (felt sorry for her as she was on her honeymoon). We were fine though and would probably use boat transfer if we visited again.

ROOM (no 5) : overall great. Our room was fab as we were right on the beach. The room was spacious, clean & bed was very comfy. The decor was very slightly dated (I get the impression many of the rooms are newly decorated and ultra sleek) but still not unlike what we were expecting from picking the cheapest and it is only a 4 star afterall. The outdoor shower was nice too. If we visit again I would absolutely stay in the same room though as the location made up for the very slightly dated interior. Would request any of rooms 1-8.

FOOD: OMG... amazing! totally exceeded our expectations! We eat in excellent restaurants and really enjoy visiting michelin star restaurants world wide so we have high expectations. We were amazed by the quality for an all inclusive resort! DEFINATELY go foor the all inclusive SELECT!!!!
You get breakfast as normal in the buffet restaurant however we only visited once and I was glad we had opted for select as we didnt have to go there for lunch or dinner. Theres lots of families with children, noisy, busy etc which you never see if your select as restaurants are small, attentive, great quality with lovely atmospheres. We ate at all of the restaurants and found it difficult to pick a favourite but if we had to then probably reef. But the indian and thai really were excellent. We didnt have one bad meal. We ate absolutely everything we wanted to without thinking ''i'm not having mussels/ prawns etc because i'm abroad''. never had an upset tummy. brilliant!! Definately BY FAR the best all inc resort we've stayed at!!!!!!! We never bothered trying the buffet restaurants for lunch or diner because we thought it would be a come down compared to the restaurants.

Select also gives you all the alcohol and soft drinks you want. The Mojitos were fab as were the pina colada. You can order bottles of wine with your meals in the restaurants and this is still included in the select package. Cannot praise it enough from a foodie point of view and for excellent value.

We took windsurfing lessons and the german instructor Terrie was brilliant!! Really great fun and
great way to get a tan whilst working off all that food!

The gym was good. My husband went everyday and would class as adequate. I went once found a bit hot (but what do you expect in the Maldives)

Weather was great. It rained every morning but this was before we woke up as we slept in til 10 so didnt affect us.

OUR TIP: save your money by staying in the basic rooms and splurge on the AI select!!

Our first trip to Kuramathi for our honeymoon and it certainly wont be our last. Incredible.

Room Tip: We chose a garden villa which is one of the cheaper options, glad we did, much better situated than...

If you want a fantastic Maldive vacation, look no further than Kuramathi. The facilities are exquisite, and the staff is very accommodating. Rasdhoo Divers is amazing, and the dive pros are top-notch. My only critique is that the buffet-style Haruge restaurant (to which our basic all-inclusive was assigned) could use more vegetarian options. Overall, Kuramathi was fantastic, and I would not hesitate to return.

A bit tricky before we went ot decide on the different accomodation and what they meant. When there, we were pleased to have booked a superior sea view villa as we wanted the sea view. Be warned, some of them are set back from the sea so no proper view of the sea alhtough still close. Try room 129 for a great view. The detached water villas are also fabulous with great views. Both of this accomodation is on the reef side of the island where you can snorkel to the reef from the beach or your villa in about 5 minutes. Fabulous variety of fish. The other side of the island is the lagoon side and more sandy with less marinelife.
Definitley recommend all-inclusive and the selcet package if you can. Food is excellent and so many of the drinks are included that it is good value for money. Otherwise on a la carte expect to pay a minimum of £20 for a bottle of house wine. For any snorkellers you can hire fins from the marine shop free of charge which is great as they wiegh a lot in your limited baggage allowance. Also worth taking the sea plane asthere are the most fabulous views as you come over the atols. Much faster than the boat and great fun. A lovely island with a gentle pace but plenty of things to do to while away your time.

Room Tip: Try 129 superior beach villa on the reef side.

After reading almost all reviews before making a decision about where to go on vacation we finally decided to book our vacation in the Maldives and Kuramathi Island Resort. We choose the Water villa with Jacuzzi, no.250 and the Select All Inclusive package.
Our trip was just at the end of the rainy season, but we only experienced a 10-15 minute shower during the whole stay. Although we didn’t have full sunshine every day, it was still warm and comfortable, surely around 28-29 degrees. So for us the weather was quite perfect, not too hot and not too cold.
The Select All Inclusive package was well worth it. We ate delicious meals at all the different restaurants and tried oh so many different cocktails. Sitting in the shade of a tree, watching the ocean and zipping on a nice tropical cocktail gives such a luxurious feeling and we enjoyed every minute.
The water villa was nice and comfortable. The sun deck was perfect for relaxing and reading a good book or as a starting point for the snorkeling trips to the reef just outside the water villa steps. Our villa was cleaned/freshened up several times a day with filling up drinks, fresh towels and a quick check that everything is OK.
Snorkeling was great on our side of the island, but as the sea could be a bit rough at times, we sometimes went to the other calmer side of the island. Waves and stronger currents are more common on the water villa side. We saw lots of different fish, small and large, colorful, curious and wonderful. Here and there we spotted black tip reef sharks, some of them swimming quite close within 2-3 meters distance from us, but they didn’t seem to care about us. We took lots of great pictures under water.
We tried all À la carte restaurants and basically they are all good, but we had the Island BBQ and the Palm as favorites. The Reef is difficult to get at seating at, so be early with your booking if you decide to go there. We thought that the Reef didn’t have such an extensive menu as experienced from the other restaurants, a quite short fish & seafood menu compared to some of the other restaurants even though the Reef is a fish & seafood place. We also felt that the service in this restaurant was a little bit slow and went here only once.
We tried the Indian Tandoori Mahal restaurant the first night as this was the only restaurant available the day of arrival. The food was good but not as spicy as expected, even though we choose spicy dishes from the menu. The service here was also a bit on the slow side, we needed to remind the staff once about our drinks. The restaurant itself was also almost empty at the time we were there, only 3 other couples.
The Siam Garden Thai restaurant was very nice with very friendly staff. The food was delicious but also here not as spicy as we expected.
For lunch we went to the Island coffee shop once to eat. It was OK but a little bit on the wrong side of the island for a quick lunch as we spent most of our snorkeling time around our villa. Otherwise, there is quite a lot to choose from.
Our favorites were the Island BBQ for dinner and the Palm Pizzeria & Gelateria for lunch. We went 3 times to both places. Island BBQ is a great place with great staff and delicious meals. The staff goes out of their way to make your dinner experience special. We loved the Steak Diane, but also all other dishes we tried here. It’s also advisable to book this restaurant early.
The Palm, even if it says “pizzeria”, has a very yummy and extensive menu for starters and salads, pastas etc. for lunch and a long list of fish & seafood dishes and other dishes for dinner time. We enjoyed eating our lunch here as it was a quiet and cozy place with very friendly staff. I also enjoyed the Pineapple Daiquiri a lot which was not available in the other restaurants, but was so refreshing and yummy. Favorites here were the Meze, Tapas and Antipasti plates for 2. We didn’t try the pizzas, there was just too much other yummy things to choose from.
We also tried the buffet restaurants for some lunches and one dinner. Comparing to other buffet style restaurants that we have tried in other resorts and countries we thought that these buffets were quite nice and with variation every day. The staff was friendly and dishes were quickly filled up when running out.
We pampered ourselves with 2 couple’s treatments at the Spa. This was a very nice and relaxing experience, also compared to other spa’s visited around the world. Very friendly staff who made our visit special and a nice experience. If you have the opportunity, then go there and spoil yourself for a while.
We really had the best holiday ever and would certainly go back again in future should we have the opportunity. Even though the island houses 600 guests and about 700 staff it didn’t feel crowded at all. Often we felt that we might – after all – be completely alone on this lovely island. This is great if you really want to relax and “load your batteries”….

We had our honeymoon in Kuramathi after a friend recommended it. We have been on many many holidays all around the world but nothing compares with this. Absolutely perfect for a honeymoon. Zero commercialism, no sight seeing, no shopping trips, just pure chillaxing. The food in all 5 al a carte restaurants was stunning and lunch at the Coffee Shop or Palm Restaurant was always 1st class. Memories we will have forever are how good the service was and how very friendly all the staff were and how close to nature we were. Snorkelling in the reef was just incredible. Don't hesitate just book it!
