Spent a lot of time here 2 years ago, then the best hotel in Karaganda and still is.

Upgraded restaurant and lobby bar, and internet is much faster now.
Fitness center is in good order with modern equipment.

Wintertime (now) rooms are over heated, and radiators are only approximately controllable.
Bathroom water can arrive brown (rusty) in mornings until there's enough run thru to clear the pipes.

Room Tip: If you need non smoking, double check several times. Some rooms here and there are non smoking, the...

I have been staying in this hotel 6-8 times a year since 2007, coming to Karaganda for business purposes. The services are really good here, the staff , all staff is very friendly and professional in addressing the quests' needs, and food at the hotel's restaurant is excellent. The only sad news are that they've reduced the number of the dishes in their menue recently...
The hotel has a very good fitness center with indoor swimming pool. Location is perfect - just in the local park area. Exclusive jewelry shop right in the hotel, and one can order his/her own design of a ring or whatever there, for a quite reasonable price.

Room Tip: Hard to recommend a particular room as it depends on what kind of neighbors will be staying next doo...

Moving to Karaganda, Kazakhstan with my husband and two young sons, any advice? I am interested in knowing all: about good restaurants, preschools, theatres, apartments, etc. I appreciate any feedback.

Hello Smasha, sorry i couldn't find your full name.
Thank you very much for your positive review. Any review is a huge compliment for us, especially positive :-).
As far as i understood from the text of your review you want to find some information about Karaganda. Could you please specify what exactly you are looking for so i can prepare detailed answer.
For the beginning i can tell you about our theaters. Basicly we have 3 main theaters. Saken Seifullin theater (national kazakh style) and "Palace of miners culture" (mostly russian perfomances) are on Bukhar Zhyrau street and Stanislavskiy theater (mostly russian perfomances) is on Mira Boulevard.

We are always ready to help!
Best regards,
Maxim

Stayed here in June for one night and its an OK place to stay. The rooms themsleves are quite comfortable for Kazakhstan with Cable TV, comfortable Bed and decent shower. Wifi is also free of charge and the connection is reasonable.

The downside of the hotel is the breakfast wqhich is quite poor although included with the room. The room key cards are also unreliable which is most annoying when your key card doesnt work.

I stayed in the Cosmonaut as part of a 6-week business trip to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. It's turned out to be a nice surprise... away from town in a park-like setting with a nice outdoor restaurant (which we couldn't enjoy because of mosquitoes) and relatively cheery rooms. According to my guide book, the "real" cosmonauts actually stayed in another, nearby hotel, which I was told was somewhat dismal but of historic interest. The Cosmonaut is probably a better bet. Breakfast was decent, as was dinner.

My advice: do not book this hotel through Russian travel agencies, who request advance payments by credit card, a hurdle to have it confirmed, and then very high rates. You should contact the hotel directly, by phone or e-mail, and make a reservation. It will be trouble free, very fast and you will get the best rate and the best rooms. All staff speaks English fluently. The hotel is not impressive; but once you get to know others in town, it will look like 6 stars. If you happen to visit Karaganda, this is your best option. Their gym needs really an upgrade, but I believe that other hotels in town do not even have one.
