Me and my family have been going to Mambruk Hotel in Anyer more then five times over the last few years and enjoy our stay each time although the only disappointing thing is the drive from Jakarta to Anyer which can be quite bumpy and lots of traffic to the road repairs which seem to never end and have been going on for years for a certain part where the heavy trucks pass from Cilegon. Mr Zonvri, the hotel manager is very nice as always and makes sure that our stay is a pleasant one. The villas are solid, clean, and spacious and still have that old Dutch character from the late 1800's. When it's not busy (during the week and not weekend) the pool is fantastic and right next to the beach which is actually not really a swimming beach as it's pretty rocky and strong currents. The hotel can arrange fishing and snorkelling trips which really depends on the sea conditions on the day. On a clear afternoon if you are lucky you can see some amazing views of Krakatau. Recommend things to do is check out the new lighthouse which was built by the Dutch after the tsunami and you can go all the way up and actually see the foundations of the old one, check out the beach at Marbella Hotel where you will find various beach activities but be careful of the strong currents if you swim in the sea there as there is no lifeguards. Anyer has allot of good eating spots ranging from good Javanese, Balinese and Padang as well as fresh seafood. There are a few bars around but if you want to drink at the hotel you make sure that you stock up from Jakarta as none of the stores sell alcohol as Anyer is a very strict Muslim area although saying that the local people are very nice and friendly.
