“The best of Bali”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

This place was a lovely surprise. We wished we had stayed longer to enjoy the walks and tours and interaction with the village school offered by the lodge and the villagers.
With only 1.5 days we opted to stroll the property, sit and contemplate beside the waterfall, view the sustainable companion, random planting of food crops and chat to Cath and John about their aims and dreams for this slice of heaven. We also ate very well at the little restaurant and had a divine massage right in the rainforest.
The lodges were rustic, attractive, comfortable and well appointed.
We thought there might be mossies but there were none.

The trip up to the lodges and the trip back down the mountain were interesting parts of the visit. The scenery and the Balinese going about their daily rhythm of village and farm life was very soothing for us but we could see life was hard work for farmers in Bali.
We felt very welcomed when we arrived.
We loved chatting to the young rice farmer who took us back to the coast about his life and his village.
The contrast between this place and the destructive nonsense going on down on the coast was very evident.
Take advantage of their transport up to the lodges because it would be hard to find on your own.
Cath's and John's message is let's work and learn together to do the best for the people of Bali.

We stayed at Bali Eco Stay for 4 nights during January 2013. This is an exquisite small group of bungalows in a beautiful setting. The bungalows are open, so you really feel at one with nature.
This is the place to stay if you want to see the 'true' Bali. Relatively short walks can take you through villages and rice fields. There are many activities offered including guided walks.
Good food is provided in the restaurant, with plenty of choice. Much of the produce is produced in the garden on the property. The view from the restaurant is amazing.
Kath and John are wonderful hosts, and all other staff are extremely helpful and friendly. You soon fell totally at home here and and it is hard to say goodbye to these wonderful people.
We have no hesitation in recommending Bali Eco Stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in Buddha, which is alongside the river. It is suitable for a couple, however you may find...

Our stay in the Harvest Bungalow with our 8 year old daughter was the highlight of our 18 day Bali holiday.
Amazing Food cooked by Mini and her team in the kitchen. As we stayed 4 days we ate many of the menu items, and all were fresh, tasty and fairly priced!
The cultural experiences were extremely memorable, including basket weaving with Kacek, cooking classes with Mini, watching silat practice, listening to gamulen and barefoot walking in the muddy rice paddies. We were lucky enough to be there for New Year's Eve which also included beautiful traditional Balinese dancing and the freeing of our wishes on sky lanterns with a feast with many from Kanciana village.
Embracing all that nature offered, we excitedly watched the fireflies and lightening from our bed each night as we slept with the blinds up and mosquito nets down.
The Harvest bungalow was VERY comfortable with 2 bedrooms and an amazing day bed in the lounge area. Our 8 year old enjoyed learning how to play chess on the occasional rainy periods. The books and games available to help while away the time are great!
The open air massages were the best we had in Bali, and we had a lot! And jumping on rocks and swimming in the stream was fun. The fresh drinking water was delicious.
John and Cath have thought of everything to ensure comfort is maximized. At one stage we had a visit by a few ants and they were quickly sent on their way by cleaning staff who do a fantastic job.
There is so much more we could say, but don't want to spoil the surprises!
Thank you also to Huey who introduced our daughter to his friends.
We will be back!!!!

Four month before our trip we booked Bungalow Buddha online as our first accomodation on our three weeks trip in Bali. The manager, John, answered always directly on our emails. The place is very well organised.
When we arrived after 2,4 hours drive from the airport we had a nice surprise - due to current circumstances we got an upgrade and stayed in Bungaow Harvest, the biggest one, with a stunning view over rice terraces.
The whole, quite, natural place is in a very good condition, the food tastes brilliant and all the staff was very, very friendly! We felt really welcoming and could relax perfectly. What we liked most was the interior style of the bungalow, especially the open air bath, the sundown over the rice fields, and the waterfall, which is approximately 100m from the bungalows.

We booked at Bali Eco Stay after being seduced by an article in the newspaper. After reading the reviews we were expecting something special and our expectations were definately exceeded. We stayed a week with our 8 year old daughter in Little Padi. Our daughter loved sleeping on the day bed with her own mosquito net.

We spent most mornings walking with and without guides. We loved chatting to the guides (especially Kadek) and finding out all about this lovely area. We also enjoyed following the marked walktrails, armed with Mini's chocolate cake, and exploring on our own. On these walks we had many opporunuties to interact with the locals which was great.

The food in the resturant was superb. Our daughter loved the pancakes and the mie gorang. She and I did a cooking lesson with Mini which was great. We made lunch for us all. The icecream is delicious and should not be missed.

Afternoons were spent swimming in the river, often with Huey, and generally relaxing. John and Kath are great hosts. Bali Eco Stay has a great atmosphere and as our daughter said "is the real Bali".

Little Padi overlooks a view that captivates both mind and spirit. We came to experience and learn what sustainable and eco friendly accommodation can represent. Where you are eating the food that is grown and prepared on your doorstep. Where the water used is recycled back to the gardens and our accommodation was self ventilated which diminishes the need for appliances and additional power usage.Eco friendly and locally made organic toiletries were refreshing too. Bali Eco stay is uniquely situated within a village surrounded by rice paddies, glorious nature, the mountain and a view to the ocean. Your senses are invigorated by the pureness of the water, the delicious and healthy meals Mini and her staff serve, the massages, cooking lessons and village life. The impression these make stay with you long after you arrive home to our western and busy lifestyle. We take back home with us a deeper appreciation of a kinder and more peaceful way of living and hope to bring this into our own lives here at home. We thank every one at Bali Eco Stay and will return again very soon. Namaste
