Set in the middle of lush forest and paddy fields, nestled between local villages, is this gem of a place, perfect for recharging your batteries and re-discovering nature.

The bungalow I stayed in (Little Paddy) was luxurious, tasteful and thoughtfully laid out with a truly stunning, uninterrupted view across the forest and rice paddy fields from the bed, sofa and actually anywhere you sit or stand in the bungalow.

Everything in the bungalow was natural and eco-friendly - from the materials it was made from to the toiletries provided in the bathroom. The bungalow felt very 'open' - I felt incredibly close to nature; yet it was private and secluded enough to enjoy some real 'me' time.

The owners, John and Kath, are really friendly. They have made a great effort to provide plenty of 'things to do' during your stay, should you wish to take time out of gawping at the amazing scenery! In the four days I stayed there, I thoroughly enjoyed a Balinese carving lesson, making a bamboo mat, learning to cook a Balinese dish and having a hot stone massage (which was, without a doubt, the best massage I've ever had). All were with local people who are exceptionally friendly and a pleasure to spend time with.

I could have easily stayed for longer and very much intend to come back! If you are in Bali, this place should NOT be missed off your itinerary.

The stay in Bali Eco Stay in the rice water bungalows was truly a wonderful experience for me and my entire family. I was truly impressed by the view of our lush surroundings atop the mountain which was spectacular with the rice water paddy fields contributing to the exquisite scenery. The organic and local delicacies served there were scrumptous and appetizing with Mini, a skilled chef to meet our nutritional needs. A unique point of the stay there was that it was environmentally friendly with most of its natural and biodegradable products there contributing to long-term environmentally sustainability unlike most other hotels. I strongly recommend all nature lovers, hikers and trekkers to lodge there and participate in the walks and treks around the surroundings, revealing the best that nature has to offer for us with a 12m waterfall along a river and great paddy fields of rice grown along the mountainside. I am also deeply grateful for the generous hospitality of the our hosts for the precious time and energy that they spent to make us comfortable there.

i was lucky to have stumbled upon this gem of a hotel when i was planning my trip to bali-since it's very new and was not on most of the travel sites-from what i read about from tripadvisor, it was definitely notedly different than most other more touristy hotels, which was what i was looking for. i have to say that i have not had too much experience with this type of unique accommodation from my previous travels, and i was a little anxious as i was also fairly new to solo traveling, but the numerous emails i had exchanged with Johnny, the owner helped ease much of my anxiety. upon my arrival, which was quite late at night, and johnny greeted me with some tea and homemade cookies since the restaurant was closed. i immediately fell in love as i entered the bungalow-it was such a perfect combination of rustic elegance and modern and eco conscious amenities set in the most luscious rice fields surrounded by waterfalls and beautiful landscaping that Cath-Jonny's wife carefully designed and planted. everyday i had my meal with johnny and his family-as he kindly arranged so i wouldn't have to eat alone, and Mini the in house chef along with her staff whips up healthy and delicious food and fresh juices in the open kitchen from the dining area which felt more like a good friends' house with the most amazing view. during my 5 days there, i kept myself busy with hikes and activities all designed to supporting the neighboring village. Aside from the beautiful hikes, you can really get to know the local culture through participating in the various religious ceremonies which are so beautiful. what i was the most impressed by, was that johnny and cath are really making a difference in these villagers' lives by boosting the local economy, as all of their activities are outsourced to the local villagers, and each of the 22 families take turn to take on these jobs. so unlike the typical tourist activities, it feels so much more rewarding and enjoyable to participate in an activity here while getting to know the most sweetest and friendliest people. i simply loved every minute of my stay there, having my days filled with getting to know the area and the people, and winding down my days with a good book and meditation etc. it was pretty much perfect for what i was looking for. So if you are planning a trip to Bali, and are considering a less conventional and touristy accommodation, where it really feels like you are able to experience true balinese culture, then definitely check out bali eco stay-

If five star for you means acres of marble, infinity pools, restaurants and shops, then this place is not for you. But if, like us, you appreciate nature, healthy food, privacy, peace and quiet, and a beautiful comfortable room with magnificent views, then this is definitely five star. Perfect temperature in the mountains so no need for air conditioning - and what a delicious pleasure it is to sleep under a light doona and (the optional) mosquito net. Fire flies abound at night, farmers in the rice fields smile with warm greetings, and above all, John & Cath are exceptional hosts, with Mini in the kitchen providing the best of Balinese cuisine, using vegetables picked daily from the organic garden. We spent a week just being there and doing little else, and that was enough. It was a superb holiday and we will be back.

What a surprise to find such a beautiful place in Bali that appears to be still untouched by mass-tourism and the busy western life-style .
We really enjoyed the contact to the locals and felt that our presence was welcomed by them. John, Cath, Mini, Agung and all the staff were terrific hosts. A big "thank you" and admiration to John & Cathy for creating not only a wonderful place for us to stay but also for their commitment to pursuit the"green" philosophy and for encouraging the locals to follow.
After 4 wonderful days we (incl. our 17 and 13 year old teenagers) found it difficult to travel on to Ubud and leave this inspiring place and its people, the peacefullness, the "being" in nature behind.
