Friendly greeting from the staff with welcoming drinks, nice view to see the volcano eruption in the evening. Beautiful view around and amazing traditional Balinese style
Villa Sidemen is a tropical utopia. Magnificent views which simply cannot be captured in photographs, perfect weather and gorgeous villa. This is the most romantic getaway one could dream of!
The villa manager is caring and wonderful and there is nothing that is too much trouble.
The villa itself is roomy and extremely clean and tidy in beautiful, traditional Bali style.
It is the second time I have visited and I will be back.
We spent the first week of our honeymoon here and we are so glad we did. Imagine waking up to this view every day- it's truly stunning. The staff are on site but very un-intrusive, Tio the butler was kind and polite and was so accommodating with every request. The property gives you a flavour of the 'real' tropical Bali. You are among nature and can hear the sounds of the temple from the local village, as well as the buzz of crickets at night. It's so quiet and peaceful. We explored the local area in the day with a hired guide, but were always welcomed back with a cup of tea and local Balinese cakes in the afternoon. The property is well maintained with a beautiful main bedroom and bathroom, as well as a gorgeous infinity pool. This is one of the most beautiful villas we have ever stayed in and we will remember our trip to Sidemen forever. Wonderful memories.
If it's the rowdy Kuta and Legian crowd and never ending traffic and chaos of Seminyak or the unreal mod Bali experience you wish to avoid why not consider the more salubrious and genteel East Bali accommodation.
Although it has also progressed since the early 90s there are still pockets of the 1920-30s Bali that intrepid European Travellers like Spies and Lamayeur sought and revelled in. Check out this attached photo.
This was snapped from the master bedroom of the Villa Sidemen. Touted as having had Mick and Megawati as guests we joined the illustrious guest list over the weekend.
Service is personalised. The view and individual pool makes up for the new neighbours that have sprung up behind the Villa. This is a place for staying in and the occasional trek to the fields or Bali Aga village. Don't expect luxury spas or butler service like the spanking resorts of Nusa Dua or Canggu.
If bored they have a collection of 150 films both classic and fairly recent blockbusters for your stay in big screen entertainment.
The decor is somewhat noughties Bali chic with traditional stone and wood carving on the roofs and doorways. Reminding us that after all this is a royal retreat.
We received a warm welcome when we arrived and were promptly offered a watermelon juice and shown around the villa, they explained where everything was and how the entertainment system worked - and if you need their assistance for anything you just ring a buzzer. The staff were excellent, very discreet but available if you need anything.
The outside area is stunning because of the view, we loved it - even though we had clouds in front of the volcano for the majority of our stay. The infinity pool is brilliant, I spent a lot of time lounging in the pool and took hundreds of photos.
Inside there is a large living room which has a movie style screen - we watched a couple of movies in the evening. There is a small fridge to store cans of drink (your not allowed access to the kitchen). There is a large bedroom with a massive comfy bed (no mosquito net) we slept well. And the main bathroom is off the bedroom - large jacuzzi and a shower, however I found the water pressure to be very poor.
You can have dinner at the villa - let them know what you want during the day and what time you want to eat, and they will order it from a local restaurant, they serve it up beautifully and it was delicious! We loved loved loved the food we had here. (Nasi Goreng, Balinese Spiced Chicken, Chicken Curry, Mee Goreng). We also tried the chocolate fudge which was very sweet but very nice.
There isnt much nearby so its probably best if you have a scooter. We walked into Sideman - its about 15 minutes to the first shop, another 5 minutes to the main shops by the police station, and then another 10 minutes of so to restaurants. So quite a long walk in the hot heat!
You can hire a scooter from the villa and Tio or the other staff will go collect it for you.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, it was the perfect place to relax for a couple of days and I just loved lounging in the pool watching the clouds pass by the volcano.
Note- Our taxi driver struggled to find the villa, look for the sign that says Villa Patal (thats its old name) and beware its up a steep hill.
We stayed there for the honeymoon. The views there are for real the best in bali, the villa is very private, the pool is really cool, the villa is well equipped and the service "Tio" was a dream coming true. You text him all what you need either for food or driver preparation and he would take care of it all. The home theater made our nights. I loved there
