My husband and I arrived in Pemuteran looking for a break from the typical Balisean tourist attractions (Ubud, Kuta etc) and were so happy with what we found. It's an adorable small spot that attracts back-packers and people who prefer quiet. Tons of lovely restaurants along the main road (we found Taruna on our second night and ate there 3 more times - the food was exquisite). Snorkelling at Madagan island is not to be missed if you like snorkelling - there is literally a cliff underwater with the most amazing variety of coral and fish we'd ever seen.

Taman Sari has a perfect strip of beach. The resort is small (24 rooms), peaceful, rooms have lovely outdoor bathrooms. At just $70/night, it's a bargain. It's more than you'll pay for some of the smaller guesthouses, but they mostly don't have beaches.

We stayed in a Queen Suite near the pool and spa . It was spacious with an outdoor seating area in front and an open air bathroom . My husband did not care foe the shower , where the water flowed from a Balinese statue of a women pouring . I rather liked the primitive and culturally indigenous uniqueness of using the local statuary.
The breakfasts were nice , I particularly liked the fresh juices , orange and papaya . and sliced fresh fruits. It was lovely seated at a table near the beach in the morning before it got too hot .The dinners were ok, nothing special. It is hard to go off-site for meals .
The resorts setting on Pemuteran beach was perfect, on a small bay with calm waters ,and snorkeling off the beach . Next to the resort is the Bali Diving Academy for lessons and excursions to the "Biowreck" right off the beach or to Mejangan Island .

Room Tip: Close to the pool and restaurant is more convenient .

The location is beautifully quiet and this hotel could be so much better if the owners took some interest in it.
Positives:
Nice grounds and gardens
Restaurant and food
Friendly staff
Negatives
Dirty rooms
Mosquito infested
Dirty beach
To be fair this is only rated as a three star so don't expect much if you choose to stay here.

I stayed here mainly to do some diving with Bali Diving Academy and on previous reviews upgraded to a deluxe room rather than the standard room. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable and the air conditioning pleasant but then I don't require freezing temperatures. The 24-25C temperature in the room was great compared to the 30+ outside. The room was close to the pool and restaurant as well as the dive centre so it suited me well.
Everything in the room worked well and when the safe decided not to open, they had a technician there in 2 minutes at night sorting it out. I do agree with a previous review that the rooms can do with a spruce up. One thing though, in room 7, the room light switches was on the opposite side of the entrance door so I had to leave lights on (not good for energy or mosquitos) or struggle through the dark to get to the switches. I would recommend that they move the switches to the front door, at least for the room light.
The hot water in the shower was great but no hot water at the basin though.
In the tropics, mosquitos are always around and the hotel puts out coils on the veranda and in the bathroom and there is a mosquito net.
I had all my meals at the hotel restaurant as the selection was good and what I had was also good. I would suggest that for the Babi Guling they keep the meat warm. By the time I received mine it wasn't hot anymore. The Pork Schnitzel was great. Breakfast was included in the rate and I got what I wanted and appreciated it that it wasn't a buffet.
The BioRock off the beach makes for good snorkelling and yes, there are rubbish in the sea close to the beach but every operator along the beach cleans it up throughout the day, not much else they can do.
The diving at Manjangan and the muck diving was great.

Room Tip: Pay a bit more for the deluxe room

The very nice beachfront resort in remote Permuteran offers comfy and large cottages, a full service spa, pool, dining, and beautifully manicured grounds. The staff was WONDERFUL. They helped us at every request, even finding a driver to take us to our next location. Enjoyed mani/pedi and a delightful facial at the spa. The ladies are most accommodating. We stayed in the Butterfly suite and loved the spacious accommodations that included air conditioning, desk, sofa, outdoor lanai with seating overlooking a pond, upstairs lanai with bed for lounging, and outdoor bathrooms. Beachfront has bar, pool, restaurant, and great location for snorkeling. Nearby is a temple with lots of monkeys and a turtle sanctuary. Do not carry food around the monkeys--they are very assertive. There is not much shopping around--only a small shop at the resort and down along the beach, a small store with beaded necklaces and few other things. This spot is for those who want sand and beach life. Bring mosquito spray. All dining is outdoors...watch for the sand fleas. Food was mostly very good, but one hamburger meal gave both diners Bali belly. Be aware. We also drank only bottled water. Outdoor bathrooms were not my favorite thing, but we did get used to it. No hair dryers provided. Bring your own plug-in for electricity conversions as the hotel only has one converter.

Room Tip: The Butterfly suite has two large rooms, separate but sharing a foyer. Two separate patios. Ideal f...

But it was well designed. Every still works (just) and it is harder to say you are ecologically sound if replace things as they don't look new again.
You can still sit 5m from the waves and eat in the restaurant.
There aren't half a million people using the bay as a waste disposal system so the beach is usable.
You can actually eat in the restaurant (often where there is a captive pool of guests like here the restaurant standards fall and you are always going out to look for better food.)
You can get one of the best rooms they have for a much nicer price than in southern Bali but it did feel strange to walk through Bali and not get pestered with offers of transport/ food/ massage......
I have been to lots of SE Asian resorts and this is one I would actually consider revisiting rather than trying somewhere new.
It is a three-four hour drive from the airport which is why it is still quite and nice (I guess downtown kuta is still one hour from the airport) .....don't come unless it is for at least 3-4 days

(For those scare of mosquitoes....yes it is more natural here than the built up areas around Kuta so there are mosquitoes. Our room was air conditioned (to freeze them) had fans, mosquito nets etc. The staff lit mosquito coils around the out side sitting zones of the room and set the mosquito nets around the beds at sunset but don't plan on a long shower at sunset in the outside bathroom and hope to be bite free. I got a few bites at dinner on the first night but little else.
