“Hidden Paradise”

"Get me out of here !" was shouting my immune system while stuck in traffic I was watching horrorized the havoc perpetrated to that, once, Paradise Island.
Returned after years to visit friends of an happy time when I lived in Bali, I would have certainly got back home with a bitter taste, if an angel, under the guise of an old friend, would not have appeared to rescue me, proposing to go and spend a few days at a new place: Milo's Retreat, on the north of the island.
"Gasp! Long way!" I thought at first, but reaching Permuterang I immediately realized I was in another world: sporadic traffic, smiles of relaxed people, some old fashion little Hotels of bungalow. Temples, many Temples! The oldest of Bali, with monkeys diving in to the sea like children! No mass tourism! Alleluya! What a relive!
We reach the near by "Retreat" at dark. The park is huge, but I can not realize where I am. The house, built in the purest style of that great artist who is Milo, is enclosed in tall sliding glasses; immense gauzy curtains printed with underwater pictures come to life moved by the evening breeze; a thousand shades of blue wraps you; the feeling is of being living in an aquarium for humans, a new sensation, unique! The rooms very, but very spacious, aside the comfort, are offering an excellent climate control, not the usual cold breath direct to your forehead. And you appreciate it very much!
The biggest surprise, however, comes in the morning when you step out trampling flawless and smooth grass. Around you, the nothing, only a garden filled with frangipani and baobabs (yes real african baobabs); and further, the deep green of the forest. On the back mysterious mountains and in front ... the best sea I've ever seen in Bali!
Damn! I lived here for ten years and I never suspected the existence of a water like this!
Along the beach, private for a few kilometers, runs rows of shady trees that give a relaxing coolness. The friendly boat that provides the house takes you to the area just in front, where the low white sandy bottom makes the water similar to that of the Bahamas, and during low tide creates islands where you can walk. In the distance are discernible the volcanoes of Java. A paradise!
If you like scuba-diving, just call one of the many Diving Centers, and they'll come to pick you up with a boat to bring you to the reef or to visit a submerged Temple. This is a paradise for divers: clear waters free from dangerous currents.
The service is homely, very friendly; clean and cooperatives they offers a vast menu with excellent recipes.
There is also a dependance, a refined wooden-home South Hampton's style, with all the comforts and, for sure, a huge greenhouse of orchids

“Paradise in Bali”
Reviewed August 22, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We were on a three week trip to Bali with my kids (14) and we had the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of Seminyak to head to the north coast of Bali to Permuteran.

The drive was worth the journey, although Milos Retreat could have been better sign posted the house certainly has the "Wow "factor…set back from the road and right on the beach , this property is set in over 10,000m2 of private land giving one the feeling of complete privacy and tranquility.

the house itself has 3 main bedroom wings..two right and left of the main very spacious living room, 80m2 with outdoor bathrooms and then the master suite on the upper level.130m2 which has a huge indoor bathroom.

The rooms are big enough for small families although, spare mattresses were not available.

The gardens are mature and the beach area is beautifully kept with lots of trees and shady areas for having lunch or just reading a book with the sound of breaking waves lapping at your ears.

“Paradise found”
Reviewed August 17, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Right up in the north of Bali, miles from the madding crowd of Seminyak and Kuta, Milos Retreat is a treat in every sense of the word. It does take 3 hours to get there by car but the surrounding scenery will make the ride an enjoyable one. The property is a fabulously and individual concoction of a flamboyant and luxurious paradise with a sense of exclusivity and artistry rarely encountered in a rental property. You know you have stepped into a special person's vision when you drive into the amazing grounds and enter the house. Everything is a treat for the senses, reminiscent of a time and lifestyle back in the heyday of Bali when beautiful and creative people from around the world descended upon this special island. The private beach with a tempting reef for snorkelling and scuba diving is right in front, and there are other diving sites accessible nearby using their own boat. The scenery is really beautiful, with 360 degree beautiful views which you can enjoy from the rooftop patio in the evenings. This is a very special location and accommodation to enjoy with a select group of friends. We scuba dived right off the beach and there is a convenient bale for the dive-master and his assistants to prepare all the equipment for you. There are freshwater showers right in the open garden. If you want to experience something really special, this is it!!
