Alila Ubud, is a delightful 56 Rooms & 8 Villas resort tucked away in the rice fields and overlooking the Ayung River. This is the former Chedi Hotel, under new management. Noel Cameron, an experienced hotelier, is now the new GM. The dining on the terraces is a treat as well as the spa. There is a frequent shuttle to Ubud for those that want to explore. Local troupes of monkeys come to the resort each evening at dusk and are entertaining as one lies around the pool and watches them. The spa was amazing and appointments as late as 9pm make it a perfect end to the day.

Room Tip: Deluxe Rooms on the lower level.. 201-218 or a villa with a private pool

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review, I appreciate the feedback & it's great to be able to convey the feedback with the team.

Glad to read that you enjoyed the visits by our local wildlife, many of the guests consider it a highlight of their stay to come so close to the monkeys.

The spa is always a treat after a long day of walking through the centre of Ubud or hiking Mt. Batur, Kintamani and as you said, treatments until 9pm, make it the perfect remedy for a good night's sleep!

The team and I look forward to welcoming you back.

Kind Regards,

Alasdair Davidson

I stayed from the 27th to the 29th September 2013. Although Alila Ubud's offer of free afternoon tea is commendable they should spare no effort in making it more palatable. For the afternoon of 28th September, they served what would seem to be banana fritter and cassava cake. The coated batter around the banana is very thick and it was cold, not crispy at all. You are eating more batter than banana. The cassava cake is normal, something you will get at any market place in Bali.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your honest review of Alila Ubud. I am sorry to read your comments about our complimentary afternoon tea, it is normally well received by our guests. The ethos behind the tea is to offer our guests an Alila Hospitality that is derived from the local cuisine, so I am glad that the cassava cake was compared to the local market variety, it means we are being true to the concept.

I will discuss the comments on the banana fritter (pisang goreng) with the chef & we will review the presentation.

Once again, I thank you for your comments and the opportunity to improve.

Looking forward to welcoming you back to Alila Ubud in the future.

Kind Regards,

My wife and I have never been to Bali and immediately upon arriving the airport we were overwhelmed with the traffic and all the people but after a crazy shuttle ride we arrived at the unbelievable paradise that's Alila Ubud. We were greeted w warm smiles from all the staff and the manager Alisdire who was more than friendly and accommodating. I don't even know where to begin with how magical this place is, the food (little pricy but elegant and delicious), the magical infinity pool looking out to the jungle, the unreal scenery and the superior services. Then there's our deluxe honeymoon suite. We had an outdoor bathtub surrounded by a giant coy fish pond, a huge private pool w constant visits by local wild monkeys and a huge comfortable bed and a giant bathroom with everything for him and her. It was the first hotel and destination (out of 4) on our honeymoon and I was immediately "worry" that this place will make all other hotels pale in comparison. (More in that later). Alisdire sent a bucket of iced cold Bintang beers as a gift for our honeymoon which was awesome and we were just smiling at every turn, can't love this place enough. Wifi was available everywhere with good signals and we can order unlimited dishes for their unique and delicious breakfast which was more than perfect for a carefree vacation. They offer free shuttle bus to town, free bicycle rides w maps through local village and rice fields. (Watch out for traffic on main road) and free yoga and taichi in the morning off the cliff overlooking the jungle. The whole experience was perfect. Thanks to Escapes by Marcela for booking Alila for our honeymoon!

Stayed at this hotel for 5 days during our honeymoon in 2012, Im not a huge beach fan and prefer to do a lot of sight seeing during holidays but this hotel provided a great base for us in Bali, the hotel had an unreal setting so relaxing. We were a short journey from Ubud town, the hotel also ran a shuttle service for this. A fascinating little town you could spend all day wandering around, lots of art gallerys and sculptors working on the streets.
Unfortunately approx 2 wks before our arrival we received an email from the hotel saying there was a wedding being held at the hotel and on one of the days of our stay we would not have access to the pool and restaurant, nothing too bad however as an apology they upgraded our room to their brand new villa and all food was delivered as free room service, it was really amazing.
I would really recommend paying the extra for the Bali night where traditional food is served and local children came into perform traditional Balinese dances its a fantastic evening.
Oh yea and breakfast was unbelievable!!! Tapas style menu where you are expected to chose 3-4 different items all freshly made, the menu also changes everyday!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for posting your encouraging comments regarding your honeymoon stay in 2102. It's pleasing to note that the alternative accommodation offered during the wedding helped to make your stay even more memorable. I have to agree with you, the new villas overlooking the rice terraces are a stunning addition to Alila Ubud and really alowl you to immerse with nature.

The Friday "Spice Market" continues to be an event loved by our guests with local cuisine styles and Balinese dances making for an entertaining evening.

The team and I wish you well for the future & look forward to welcoming you back for an anniversary!

So much to compliment! We were greeted by the general manager, alisdaire, who was so friendly and helped us to our room. The staff was warm and helpful, and our deluxe suite had everything: private pool, huge bed, and my favorite - a private bathtub outside surrounded by a coy fish pond. We even had monkeys join us! Couldn't recommend more, even if you stay in a regular villa, you get amazing views of the jungle via the infinity pool with free afternoon tea. Oh and the good/cocktails were to die for. Thanks for the memories!!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for posting about your recent stay at Alila Ubud.

I am glad the team were able to make your stay such a memorable one and that the pool villa lived up to your expectations. There is nothing more relaxing than a candlelit bath surrounded by Koi, water lilies and a star filled sky!

The afternoon tea is always popular around the infinity edge pool with a selection of fresh artisan teas, juices and local Balinese sweets, sometimes with visits by our local family of monkeys making for a great photo opportunity.

We look forward to welcoming you home on your next visit to Bali.

Kind Regards,

Alasdair

I've been to Alila Ubud twice and the sister resort Alila Candidasa as well. Both of our trips were work related and we can't imagine staying anywhere else if there is a choice of staying in an Alila resort. Hospitality is excellent in most Balinese resorts but Alila is in a class of its own. It doesn't pretend to have 6stars luxury but what it has is a certain grace, charm and gentleness that permeates the whole place.

The resort blends seamlessly into the lushness of the Balinese landscape and the team is remarkably well trained. The gentleness and the kindness of the staff members never failed to impress me. From the cleaning crew to the restaurant staff, the reception and the manager, the place is infused with a quiet sense of joy and poise. Someone mentioned about the great breakfast and I must say that the breakfast in Ubud is just about the best I've had and I've travelled quite widely. The ingenous use of local produce and adaptation of tastes is just remarkable. It has become a norm for us to have our work meeting over breakfast and even the local well heeled Balinese are astounded by creativity in the dishes offered. So, breakfast for us is usually a long affair beginning at 8 am and lasting till 10.30 as we pored over our documents. I don't think I can adequately capture the serenity of sitting and working in filtered sunlight, with a magnificent vista accompanied by cicadas and chirping of birds.

I guess much has been said about Balinese aesthetics in general and you see traces of this everywhere in Alila. Presentation in Alila Ubud and Candidasa is just impeccable. You feel your world go still and quiet like a lake without a ripple the moment the car turns into the driveway. In the softness of the morning and evening light, you almost have to pinch yourself to believe that such a restful beautiful place exists. Ultimately what makes Alila special is the people. There was a 8 months gap between our visits to Alila Ubud and from the houseboy to the reception to the waiting staff in the restaurant, we were greeted and missed like relatives on a return visit. There were smiles aplenty. There is nothing more heartwarming then to be welcomed this way. In the world when everything is in flux, it is even more precious that we have little gems like Alila that we can escape to whenever we can. We are just so lucky to be living in the region - so we can make this trip at least twice a year and I will always choose to go to an Alila if there is one around. In total, we spent about 15 days in 3 trips and in all that time, we never heard raised voices. Every crease is straightened, every problem resolved, every request acknowledged and every appeal for help met. What I value most in these two Alilas is the quality of the other guests. As we all know, often the biggest blight on holidays is not the hotel you are staying in but the type of fellow travellers you have for company. I guess, Alila's focus on culture and heritage meant that it attracts a particular type of clientale - those who appreciates the beauty and tranquility of the place and the dignity of the people who work there. So, if you like loud parties and night life, please give this place a miss. It is a sanctuary for tired souls. A place where one can recenter, recharge and emerge with a gratitude that such places exist in the world. I know this might sound a bit over the top but I have never felt more strongly about a place than I have about Bali in general and about great places like Alila in Bali. There is a healing spirit for those of us who are spiritual and even the most agnostic will be awed by the energy in these places.

Room Tip: In Alila Ubud, I prefer the rooms on the ground floor but in Alila Candidasa, I prefer the rooms on...

We stayed 3 nights for our honeymoon in a treetop villa; it was lovely waking up to such spectacular views from our bed through the huge window (and on one occasion some playful monkeys!) You're in a forest, so there are of course bugs and creatures (toads, lizards etc), but we had no problem with mosquitoes.
The food at the hotel was some of the best we had on our whole trip. The breakfast in particular was amazing and i'm not usually a huge breakfast fan. The staff are all genuinely lovely and the hotel has a very nice relaxed vibe.
Trips to Ubud took about 20 minutes, and there are cabs that work for the hotel if you dont make a shuttle which are very cheap so really not an issue.
Fantastic stay, hope we make and anniversary trip back one day!

Room Tip: The tree top villas have spectacular views, with a big bed facing out of a huge window. There's...
