“Great steaks, slow service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

Hereford House is a phenomenal restaurant for beef/steak lovers, but their service will leave you tired of waiting. If you can stand the slow service and general lack of attention from many servers there, then you will be very happy with the prime rib or steak. The steak soup is also very good.

“Great Food!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2013

It is located with the Hilton Garden Inn.
Easy to walk to via the hall way. They serve a great steak and a very good selection of wines. Stay away from the desserts, unless you don't mind gaining weight, because they are so very good!

“In the top 2 restaurants I've eaten”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013

Steaks are very tender. The homemade ranch dressing on the salad was great. Loved the homemade bread with butter served at room temp so you could actually spread it. Cheesecake was fantastic, and I got the cookies and cream cheesecake, and they had several flavors to choose from. All the staff were very professional and friendly.

Highly recomend this property.

“Just not "the" Hereford House any more”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2013

When I was a kid, it was a big deal to go to the Hereford House. Of course, that was the original one, which no longer is there. However, I've tried both the one in Kansas and the one in Independence...having been to the Independence location several times now. There just isn't anything special about either of them. Very mediocre steaks, limited other entrees. If you're going to charge $30 for a meal (and that's the low end of the scale), then make it a really good meal. Most things we've had have been tasteless. We could do better at home for a lot less $$. Can't complain about the service--it's always been nice. But if a place wants to claim the title of a great local steakhouse, then it needs to measure up to the title. So far, HH hasn't done that, at least not in recent years. And it makes me sad to say that, since I have great memories of going there for special occasions in the past.
So, my advice is, if you're going to Hereford House for a meal, skip the steaks and have the pork chops or the chicken picatta or salmon. Have a cup of steak soup instead of the boring house salad. The rolls are absolutely delicious, but good luck getting a second one!

“Best Steak We Ever Had”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

Staying at the adjoining Hilton Garden Inn for one night on our way west and having spent so much time in the car, we elected to try the Hereford. We couldn't have asked for a better dining experience.

We were seated at a nice, private booth close to the fireplace which was perfect for intimate conversation. Started off with the "Sea Hogs' - bacon wrapped, grilled shrimp - with a side of sauce that had a slight but smooth horseradish flavor - EXCELLENT. The menu is extensive with enough steak (and non steak) options to satisy most any palate. The even have a Late Night menu in the event you want a smaller portion but the same great taste of the primary entrees - great idea for those of us who like smaller portions. From the Late Nite Menu we selected the medallions and the Kansas City center cut strip steak - never had such a juicy, perfectly done, exquisite tasting steak. These lite entrees still came with a side and, in our case, a salad which ended up as an ample portion size.

Service from our server, Erica, was perfect as was the wine - all 3 glasses - and the timing of when the appetizer, salad and entrees came out. Didn't have dessert but sure wish we were in Independence another night because we certainly would have gone back for another great meal. There was not one aspect of our dinner that was not satisfactory.
