“Paradise on earth!”
Reviewed June 24, 2009

We stayed in Amankila for the first three nights of our honeymoon and we really experienced this as paradise on earth. We have seen some nice places but this is absolutely the best! The service was absolutely unbeatable. It already started when we arrived. We had booked a pool suite and were upgraded to the pool suite with one of the best views of all the villas (it was the Kilasari suite) which really was amazing. If we did not stay in our villa and enjoyed it there we went to the beach which was amazing again. Everywere you went staff was awaiting you to serve you and on the private beach there are little Bali huts to relax in. Furthermore, the food is also amazing and fantastic.

In summary, our stay in Amankila was worth every penny. The only downside is that during the rest of our stay in Bali we kept comparing the hotels to Amankila but no hotel could win this comparison. We have already decided that we definitely have to come back here some day to enjoy this paradise once more!

Wanting to enjoy a real honeymoon 4 years after being married we selected Amankila as the ultimate location. We spent just 3 days enjoying the natural surrounds of the resort, but time permitting we wish we could have stayed for a month!

The service throughout the resort was amazing - all of the staff at every level were friendly and professional. We spent two days by the pool, an afternoon in the library, enjoyed a massage by the private beach, and half a day snorkling. In between we enjoyed fine dining from breakfast through to dinner.

We tried to experience most of Amankila in three days, but we feel we only scratched the surface. Hence we will return!

Stayed at Amankila as part of my honeymoon last Fall. It was one of several stops in Southeast Asia and while we stayed at several luxury hotel/resorts, Amankila was a cut above the rest. While we did pay more here than at the other resorts it was unbelievable, and the highlight of our trip - and also the one place that we are set on revisiting.

The staff all know your name shortly after you check in (they send your photo to staff as they copy your passport when you arrive) and recognize you when you enter restaurants, the pool area, or pretty much anywhere else. In addition to feeling more welcome, there are other benefits to this. You are never presented with a bill so you can leave restaurants at your convenience, or take your food elsewhere, for example - it's all billed to your room because they know who you are. They also have about 200 staff and only 23 rooms - so the service is unbelievable.

We also had great private excursions where we were supplied with drivers, guides, chefs, etc. We finished one particular tour early and our guide took us somewhere else that would have been a separate tour because we had time. We didnt have enough money on us for all the souvenirs we were interested in and he paid for us (probably close to $100US) and then also said we need not pay him back. Of course we did anyway - but we had to have staff find him to do so as he was pretty serious about us not having to do so.

Tremendous luxury, great food, excellent surroundings, but above all the people is what make Amankila special.

Like we said last time we will be back and we were true to our word.Once again a trip to Amankila raises the bar to a new level.we stayed in a pool suite for 5 days of sheer relaxation and pampering. We arrived in bali late at night to be met by the helpfull amankila staff at the airport to be whisked through and soon be on our way to the resort with the customery cold towels ,drinks and niibbly's.we spent the first day in total rest mode to recharge the batteries.Late in the day we were visited by Tracy the GM to welcome us as return visitors.what a suprise to find she now has a beautifull 12 week old daughter .Once again this delightfull lady showed one of the main reasons why Amankila is so special by going out of her way to make your stay seem so special. She showed becoming a mother and being Gm of a resort can be combined extremely well .
we chose to spend most days at the beach resting in a Bale with staff supplying cold water and delightfull shots of frozen sorbet.the beach was very clean and the waves were really good for boogey boarding. Most days there were one or two ships anchored off shore which just makes for a lovely seascape view.
Although we went to just relax we went for a hike through the rice paddies and some small villages early one morning. It is so peacefull walking along the irrigation channel and so nice seeing the happy Balinese people working in the fields. At a small village we were invited into a school ,were welcomed by the children singing us a traditional song then given rundown of school life by the teacher.Certainly a very joyous humbling experience.
Four o'clock usually saw us at the libary to enjoy afternoon tea consisting of delighfull balinese cake and refreshing Ginger tea.the two friendly young girls were a treasure to watch their skills in handcrafts.
In conclusion we can only say once again we do not tire of the delights of amankila and yes we will e back

My partner and I just returned from a holiday in Indonesia (and Bangkok), during which we stayed 4 nights at Amankila (following 3 nights at Amanjiwo, and preceding 4 nights at Amanwana and 1 night at Amanusa, as well as 2 nights in Bangkok at the Sukhothai). We really enjoyed Amankila, and were definitely blown away by the Aman level of service.

For the record, we customarily stay in 1 bedroom suites at places like Four Seasons, the Halekulani, Ritz Carleton, Mandarin Oriental, and comparable properties throughout the world. This Indonesian/Bangkok excursion was our first experience with Amanresorts, aside from a wonderful dinner several years ago at Amangani in Jackson, Wyoming. Without doubt, Aman has blown us away. Aman service is FAR superior to anything we have previously experienced anywhere in the world.

Amankila is a beautiful seaside property, though we wouldn't call it as much of a beach resort as some other guests. It does have a nice black sand beach, but the currents and strong wave action do make it more a pretty beach to view than to enjoy by swimming or wading. Still, the property is stunningly set atop a cliff looking out onto the ocean, and its 3 tiered pool deck is wonderful.

We had a Pool Suite, and we had requested as much privacy while getting as much a good view as possible. They gave us the most remote Pool Suite, which we loved, while still giving us a decent view of the ocean. The Pool Suite, itself, was wonderful. There is a consistent style to the Suites at every Aman resort in Indonesia, and having just come from Amanjiwo in Java, we found that consistency to be fine. The interior was well furnished with the traditional open Asian plan. The A/C worked VERY well--in fact, it might have been one of the coldest rooms we have ever had, particularly considering how hot it was outside during out stay. (I get hot very easily, so I always make sure to crank the A/C as much as possible; at Amankila, I sometimes had to pull it back a bit since it worked so well, a true rarity for us, indeed.) The pool deck was wonderfully large with a bigger pool even than at Amanjiwo and a much bigger deck space, as well. The indoor shower actually opened out onto the exterior deck, as well, which was a nice feature (though we still pined for the true outdoor shower as we had seen at Amanusa).

The view from our Suite was nice, but not overly dramatic compared to some other places we'd been. We were a bit surprised that the Suites at Amankila weren't arranged to provide better views, but then again we also really enjoyed the privacy afforded by our Suite. There was a screen near the suite entry door that did allow partial visibility into our deck area, but since no one was in the other nearby suite, it really wasn't a factor. Otherwise, it felt very private.

That changed when honeymooners checked into the nearby suite the next day. With the increased traffic, we were a bit concerned about the lack of privacy caused both by the new guests' ability to see into our deck as well as the larger number of service personnel coming and going. We alerted the front desk to our concern and then went for a bike ride. When we had returned, we were VERY impressed to discover that the hotel had upgraded the honeymooners to a Pool Suite (from their regular suite) in order to solve the problem. (They had also tried to hang something to cover that one problem area but didn't like the way it looked.) That's service!

Similarly, we found the service at Amankila to be every it as good as that at Amanjiwo. Amazing service. Well beyond what we'd experienced at any other hotel chain anywhere. Whatever we asked for, we got--one way or another. What few issues or concerns we had were addressed immediately and graciously, without any problem whatsoever. Tracy, the GM, was just as amazing as Sean had been for us at Amanjiwo. Tracy was also just as available to us whenever we needed her. She gave great advice on diving, suggesting that since we were going to Amanwana to bypass diving on Bali and focus instead on culture. She also helped set up a private tour of East Bali for us, since we don't like the usual tour junkets.

East Bali is amazing. We really felt like we were getting a good dose of typical village life on Bali from times before the tourists came in droves--at least compared to the other parts of Bali we did visit. We did the bike tour, descending largely downhill for 2 hours, trailed by their vehicle in case we needed anything at all, and saw typical village and Balinese life. The rice paddies and fields were amazingly beautiful--just like you would envision from movies and fantasy. The Balinese people were wonderfully friendly. We only visited one true temple, but after the amazing impressions left by Borobudur and Prambadan temples on Java it was harder for us to get as motivated for the Balinese temples to the same level, to be honest. The Balinese temples were numerous and beautiful, of course, but it was hard to compare to Borobudur and Prambadan in our estimation.

Dining at Amankila was generally wonderful. The Rastafael dinner we had on our last evening wasn't quite what I had expected in terms of selections between meat, fish, and vegetables (there were far too many vegetable dishes for my personal taste), but my partner and I enjoyed it. Still, we thought it overpriced, even considering that we don't mind paying a lot for an outstanding meal. After that, we elected to not bother with any of those "special" meals offered through Aman, and instead just enjoyed the regular offerings--which were almost always delicious.

We did the already mentioned bike tour one afternoon, and we did a private tour with car, driver, and guide up to Ubud another day for 6 hours or so. Ubud was a bit touristy for our tastes, but we did stop by Amandari and had lunch there. We loved Amandari, truth be told (review to be posted later)--spectacularly beautiful in an unusual setting, mystical, tranquil, authentically replicating the feel of a traditional Balinese village. It definitely evoked the same feelings we had enjoyed while at Amanjiwo.

All in all, we really enjoyed our time at Amankila. The Pool Suite for us, though, was absolutely the highlight, more so than the ocean view or the location. We might be a bit jaded towards seaside resorts, of course, since we do live on the beach in Newport Beach, California. As a result, Amankila was a great seaside resort more than a true beach resort, and the view didn't quite blow us away as much as it might others who don't enjoy that view on a more frequent basis. Amankila might also have suffered a bit by comparison with Amanjiwo, where had just had an absolutely perfect and magical stay. Not meaning to take anything away from Amankila, but there are many seaside/beach resorts around the world that we have enjoyed; there just aren't that many places like Amanjiwo, in our opinions (though we think that Amandari might actually be another). For the couple craving the beach or seaside locale, however, Amankila is an amazing destination with fantastic service, great rooms, and great food.

This is a fabulous love story with 'kila... I've been in this amazing "home" for the first time in 2004 and since this first visit, I've been more than happy to stay every year at Amankila. Without any doubt, this is the most exceptionnal retreat around the globe, the most secluded where you'll feel the incredible and so sweet impression to be the only one in the world.
It doesn't mean you'll feel alone at Amankila but the service is so perfect you'll feel pampered every second of your stay.
Let's introduce Amankila... This is a fabulous 30 villas resort perched high on the hill with a stunning view on the blue ocean and behing, the rain forest of Bali and the Mount Agung for the most beautiful scenic you can expect.
Each villa is marvellously appointed and decorated with a very elegant timeless design made with the finest local materials. There is so much serenity you don't need any TV. Just relax on the terrace, listen the birds, look at the ocean and you'll just realize how life is beautiful even if you have to recover something not so nice...
All around, you'll have the countryside and you can be sure the Amankila family will do the very best to make the experience just unforgettable. From a Jeep tour to a breakfast in the rice fields, from a massage in the coconut grove to a private boat cruise at the sunrise, each experience you'll choose will be memorable.
The food at 'kila is so yummy and you have to try a private BBQ with the most delicious lobster i've had lucky to eat in my life... The very "wow" is to have the BBQ on the beach with a fire, a private waiter and chef and the waves sound for the super romantic experience. And about the breakfast, you'll see what means an exquisite wake up...
So, to resume, Amankila is the place not to be missed, extremly well managed byt the nicest woman i know: Tracy Atherton who is an excellent manager always talkative and she knows so much how to take care of all the guests. A stay at AMANKILA will help you to understand the reason to live, to love and to be happy... Thanks to the Amankila family for this new recent stay and see u in september....

I recently stayed at Amankila on my honeymoon and my wife and I both agree it was the highlight of our trip! I chose Amankila on recommendation from some friends who had also honeymooned there some years ago and my agent also highly recommended. My agent is Virtuoso, so this ensured we received some added benefits – including an upgrade to an Ocean Suite which we loved! The design of the room is very simple and stylish – very spacious and the day bed outside on the terrace was my favourite spot to relax and take in the amazing views!

As this was our honeymoon I really did my research….Amankila really has received rave reviews on many sites including trip advisor and I was not disappointed. I was a little concerned about the beach as a couple of people had mentioned that the water was not clear. This could not have been more wrong – the beach is private, beautiful clear water and a nice gentle wave great for boogie boarding. The sand is not black but rather a greyish colour – purely due to the vicinity to the nearby volcano. I did chat to the beach staff and asked if we were just lucky to have these perfect beach conditions (it was March) and they said most of the year the water is like this – it can be a little cloudy only after heavy rains when water from the mountains comes down to the ocean from nearby rivers.

We were on a package that included daily activities (Bali Experience I think it was called) A couple of days we were lazy and decided to just take spa treatments as our free activity and we also tried the morning cruise (not to be missed – amazing coral and great snorkelling) and also the east bali cycling tour – a great way to see the rice fields and the trip ended at the ancient palace – Ujung (make sure you take your camera – so many photo opportunities!)

There were so many other little surprises too – our room was beautifully decorated with ‘honeymoon decorations’ when we arrived and we were given a bottle of wine and free massage to celebrate our honeymoon. We loved the daily afternoon tea too!
The staff really are amazing and made you feel at home – no request was too much trouble! We really enjoyed meeting Tracy who manages the resort with efficiency and style – I was amazed to hear she had a 10 week old baby!!! She certainly didn’t look sleep deprived!!!

Overall I really couldn’t fault our stay – Amankila is not the newest resort in Bali but it has aged gracefully and delivers the experience Aman are famous for,

We will definitely be back.
