“Stunning scenary, quiet relaxation.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2013

The only reason it doesn't receive the full 5 stars was the "dinner for two" experience, which really isn't worth the extra money. Fantastic scenary, quiet, friendly staff, well spoken english and good service. We would definitely come back here!

Was a wonderful stay at Alila! from the moment of arrival at the airport, we were greeted with hospitality.. truly impressed and a big relief from the busy busy airport! Arrival at the hotel was another warm welcome by the Front desk staff, we were not rushed at all, everything was so chill and we could take our time to rest before checking in. Rooms were cosy and adequate. The beach front was beautiful and quiet. Service was great all around the resort and all are friendly. Love the afternoon teas provided, really delicious traditional tea cakes served everyday beside the greenery. Memorable :)

We had such a wonderful stay at the Alila Manggis!

From the initial pick up at the airport, welcome at arrival, daily staff interactions and transfer onward, the staff was absolutely amazing. They make you feel so comfortable and taken care of, but not in an overwhelming or annoying manner.

We did a package that included 3 meals a day, since this was our first honeymoon stop and we wanted to just relax at the property. Everything we ate was amazing. We did not try any of the Western-style food items, so I can't vouch for those, but the Indonesian and Asian dishes were wonderful! The breakfasts were my favorite during our whole trip in Indonesia (better than 5 star hotels we stayed at) - I am still dreaming of the banana juice! The daily tea and sweets were fantastic. At some hotels I think this is more of an afterthought but here the treats were made fresh and were different and delicious each day.

The grounds themselves were very well maintained and the whole property is so peaceful that we mostly just lounged by the pool and relaxed. We took advantage of a couple of the Alila Experiences. The guided trek from Kastala to Tenganan we really enjoyed - it was a great way to see the real village way of life and the rice terraces were beautiful. We also did deep sea fishing - not my favorite, mostly because the boat was small, but it was still an experience! As mentioned by others, there isn't a real beach here, but the pool was so fabulous that we didn't mind.

The rooms were comfortable and clean, not overly fancy. The shower/bath products were divine! They smelled so fresh and I love that they were in reusable containers.

East Bali and the Candidasa area are much quieter than the Bali hot spots like Kuta and Ubud. For us this was ideal, but others may be looking for more action.

My husband and I both had massages and facials and really thought the spa services were top notch. The semi-open location right along the water made it extra relaxing.

A couple of notes on some previous comments I've read... the rooster/cock crowing here was the same experience I had at every resort in Indonesia - it's part of the deal when you come to a location like Bali; some people mention insects - this is a tropical climate and when opening doors, etc. some bugs will get in, but even though I'm not a huge fan of bugs they really were very small and did not bother me (again - part of being on a tropical island!).

In summary, you get so much for what you pay here. This was really the best value we found on our whole honeymoon. We had such a fabulous stay and would love to come back!

From the moment we arrived at Alila, we were treated like no one else existed. The General Manager greeted us by first name each and welcomed us to the property - this is a lovely touch. Our room was on the first floor with the private balcony and day bed. I loved this as I could read my book from the privacy of our balcony while watching the day go by. Others may prefer the lower ground rooms as they offer direct access to the pool.
This was the part of our holiday were we did nothing but relax! We spent a full day by the pool, ordered drinks and lunch, had a complimentary massage, complimentary water... it was lovely.
We were there for the babi guling dinner which was great, but my only comment would be, it needed some more plain vegetables to go with the pork - there is only so much pork you can take!

The rooms are dated and older style, but it is a 4 star hotel, not a 5 star. It didn't bother us as the service and location made up for anything the room quality was lacking.

Would stay again.

We arrived in Bali from Australia, dead tired from an awful coach flight. The hotel picked us up and had cold towels and water in the van, which was clean and comfortable. We arrived late at Manggis and couldn't see much, but our room was lovely with a terrace overlooking the lawn and the pool. We awoke just after sunrise to the sound of waves on the beach and a cock crowing - the perfect wakeup.

Everything about this hotel is romantic and stylish, and feels completely private. The staff is well-attuned to guests' needs - I have a gluten allergy, and the staff made sure I had a special breakfast after they found this out the first day. We're not big resort people but were perfectly happy to lounge by the pool or on our terrace before striking out and exploring, which the hotel helped us arrange (see my review of Mount Batur). We also did the beachside dinner; the chef planned the menu with us and it was the perfect last evening before heading to Ubud.

Everyone I'd spoken to when planning this trip recommended Seminyak, etc - we were so happy to skip the touristy areas and just hang out in Manggis. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for relaxation and beauty in Bali. From here we went to Alila Ubud and had a wonderful stay there as well.

The welcome by the team and deputy GM was hospitality par excellence. Lunch right afterwards in the main restaurant was nice, great setting for a bite when you arrive tired and hungry. The burger however was the worst I had in years.

The room smelled burned, obviously the neighbours burned some rubber or anything else like it.

The lawns and pool were nice, just a shame the hotel doesn't really have a beach.

Fun was to hear the neighbours cock wake us up early morning, didn't hear anything like it since well over 10 years.

Staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble. Cooking lesson and local shopping experience was fantastic and memorable. Room are quite small but clean and slick. Sitting outside with cocktails and wathcing the sunset is a must. Not the cheapest destination by far but worth the extra money.
