The Stones Hotel - Legian Bali, Autograph Collection
Ranked #10 of 88 Hotels in Legian
Certificate of Excellence

I returned to The Stones recently after my last visit in Dec 2012. It has really outdone itself this time. The staff continue to be excellent, including making a little elephant out of towels in the room :)

The crowd is slightly different this time. There are fewer families and more couples / friends. Not sure if it just happens to be the case for the few days I was there, but suits me fine!

The pool side entertainment / activities at night were also more attractive this time i.e. DJ playing great music, live bands / singers, "smoking cocktail" with an accompanying grill menu. I highly recommend the wagyu beef and foie gras - simply delicious.

The whole experience was so enjoyable and relaxing that we hardly ventured out of this hotel this time. Pool side drinks and snacks all day injected with a fabulous massage session at the spa kept us feeling like heaven on earth :)

I am definitely going back again.

Room Tip: Pool view is a must !

Everything about our 5 night stay at this hotel was great. Had the best breakfast spread we had ever seen. As this was a brand new hotel when we stayed, the rooms looked great and as it's a marriott property, no detail was spared. Great swimming pool and spa. Must stay at this hotel whenever I visit next.

Situated right at Legian Beach in the Kuta area, the hotel is quite new and maintained very well. We were upgraded to the pool level room with the private plunge pool - definitely recommended and a class apart from the regular rooms with pool/garden view.
Only had breakfast there, which was pretty good...nice variety and a lot of fresh juices.

Definitely worth staying in if you want to live on the Kuta strip

My husband and I just spent 8days at the Stones Resort Kuta/Legian. The hotel is 12 months old, clean and modern.
It has big pool so never a problem with sun lounges, towels etc. Not sure that I like the sun lounges in the pool but seems to be common in other resorts.
We are not fans of Kuta but the fact that this hotel is so close is not a problem as very private and set well back from the very busy road. It is a short walk to the Beachwalk shopping precinct which is handy and a short walk to markets in Legian.
Not typically Balinese with the beautiful gardens etc but we have no complaints. The service was excellent, of course the Balinese people are a delight in every resort, breakfast plenty of variety and good quality.
Definitely the pool view room is the best, better than the deluxe pool room. The latter have their own plunge pool but never once saw anyone using them. Always in the shade. The garden view I think are the ones facing away from the hotel and not sure how much garden view you have.
The pool view rooms have bathtubs on balcony which is a bit of a novelty and not very practical, the space probably would be better used with comfy lounge.
All in all we enjoyed our stay at the Stones, would we stay there again, probably not but that is nothing to do with the hotel but I think we would probably stay a bit further up towards Seminyak, better shopping, restaurants etc.
(Just word of warning, don't use ATMs in minimarts, we had our card skimmed and drained of cash, apparently notoriously common)

Being very new this hotel is ultra modern and is very stylish. Being in the Mariot chain it is quite American when it comes to the poolside food, rooms and style but they made it even better as the rooms very fantastic. Plenty of space in the deluxe pool view room which has a bath on the balcony. Big tv, bathroom, bed etc. Clean, staff excellent, service great, breakfast huge international selection no wait to eat as plenty of room. Pool is great plenty of pool chairs, towels just a no hassle hotel. Only minor thing is the fridges in the rooms are not very cold. Security is tight but I like that they scan your bags as you come in after shopping. You also walk through a scanner. Easy to walk out get a cab or walk to the beach, shops etc. we went to this one without the kids and it is quite pricey to stay here but worth the money, we also did not see many kids at all so not sure it would be overly family friendly not sure about kids clubs etc? But going with friends it was great this was my 21st trip to Bali and by far the best hotel yet so would definitely go back !!

Stayed 4 nights in Oct. The breakfast there was great, billion choices, couldn't have all in one morning. The pool was fabulous, where is just in front of the restaurant, could straight jump to the pool after breakfast. I particularly love those sun chairs on the water. So cool!!! The room was clean and big. The room service was excellent, very quick respond. Highly recommended this hotel.

One downside was the construction work outside (in front of the front door, outside the hotel). It blocked the walkway quite a bit. Had to walk with caution at night time.

Stayed for 8 nights in a pool view room at the end of October and loved the hotel. Location is great, within walking distance to the restaurants and shops of both Kuta and Legian and directly across from Legian beach. The hotel lobby looks OK during the day but is very cool when lit up at night.
The pool area is fantastic, the best we have experienced in Bali. The hotel was apparently full while we were there but we never had any difficulty getting day beds with plenty of shade. The fact that pool is quite shallow meant even vertically challenged people like my wife could walk right up to the pool bar and bar staff were regularly coming round with sample soft drinks and cold fruit on skewers. Entertainment in the evening was very nice to sit on the balcony and watch/listen to.
Breakfast was excellent with a great choice of Western and Asian food and even lovely coffee (we initially had that black tar often served at some other hotels but quickly saw that we could get a nice cafe standard Latte on request). Even a selection of ice cream for those that way inclined.
The rooms are a bit strangely designed but are a good size and kept very clean. Our room was regularly serviced by the time we finished breakfast which is fantastic. The beds and pillows were also very comfortable and free wifi was fast and reliable. Initially the fridge was useless but after altering the setting at the back it kept things cool, just.
Security was significantly better than other hotels but was not intrusive and always carried out with a smile. In fact all of the staff were fantastic, they couldn’t be more friendly and helpful.
Check in and out was easy and they happily gave us a late check out for no extra cost.

Overall it’s hard to fault The Stones in any way. There is no question that this is a modern resort that does not have a specifically Balinese feel to it and there is also some work going on in the roof around the pool area that looks like it might be going on for some time but despite occasional blasts from an air hammer this didn’t affect our enjoyment of what is a lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Make sure and get a pool view room. I think we would have been very disappointed with the garden vie...
