“Beautiful grounds but room mis a bit tired”
Reviewed August 1, 2009

Spent 6 nights at the Jayakarta. Chose it for its location right on the beach, and its lovely pools. Was not disappointed with this. However, we were disappointed with our room. It had a lovely view over the garden with a G&T terrace, and was quiet, but inside was rather rundown. We spoke to the staff and they did their best to find us another room, but it was a very busy time, so choices were limited. The rooms they showed us would probably have been noisier - one was directly above the pool ans the other next to the driveway. So, we stayed where we were, figuring that we were hardly in the room anyway. So, all in all, great staff, excellent position, lovely tropical grounds, close to many places to eat. Best place for an evening beer? Right on the beach in front of the hotel. Very lively and cheap, cold beer.

We made our travel arrangements to Bali at the last minute and has to piece together our accommodation at the Jayakarta. We stayed 3 nights in the hotel owned 1 bedroom apartments and 6 nights in a privately owned apartment.
Both apartments had the same floorplan, however, that's where the similarities ended. The hotel owned apartment needed a really good clean, the sofa bed mattress was stained and old, small fridge, minimal utenzils (cups, glasses etc). The privately owned apartment was literally less than 50% of the cost, however, had near new furniture, new kitchen, clean throughout, large fridge, filtered water dispenser, toaster, 2 tvs, 2 dvds, beer and wine glasses etc etc. Even the aircons were near new and therefore quiet.
We could not fault these apartments, particularly for the price i.e. $80 per night.
Resort facilities - pools are very good and grounds good. This is a big hotel and therefore has lots of guests & kids, so is not the place if you want a romantic getaway.
Close to lots of good quality restaurants.
We have already booked in for next year, but only in the privately owned apartments.

Our third visit to this hotel in 10 years and we found it exactly the same – which may or may not be a good thing! On a positive note the location cannot be beaten and the hotel is generally tidy. We stayed in the Jayakarta Residence, which are the apartments at the back. The apartment was a good size, but be careful of the featured pull out settee which is meant to sleep two (a double bed) in the living room. The older ones are double, but they appear to being replaced by smaller futons which slept our 2 kids OK, but you would not get 2 adults on this. The rooms also appear to need a good scrub throughout, with a bit of dust in the bedrooms and mould in the showers/bath. This is always a problem in Asia, but surely it’s not too much effort to give everything a decent scrub. The sheets were changed daily, but there were some that had stains on they all appeared old and in need of replacement. The cutlery and crockery in the apartments is sadly lacking, as only 2 glasses, a few plates, couple of bowls for the microwave and 2 cups. Didn’t worry us because we didn’t eat in, but if you are planning self catering would be a problem, as would the lack of dishwashing equipment!
On the positive side we enjoyed our stay given the beachfront location and the pools are fantastic (3) with the ones for kids excellent size and depth. The breakfast buffet was varied and good and the coffee house was reasonable value. I think that what you get is a 3 to 3.5 star hotel, and the staff did appear a little lethargic during our visit as well and somewhat disinterested in the guests – maybe it was peak season and they were tired? We may well consider staying there again, but at AUD120 a night we thought that you may get better value elsewhere in Bali.

We travelled to Bali as two families with four young children (under 6) between us, we requested two one-bedroom apartmetns either interconnecting or sidebyside. This request was not actioned and it was very difficult to get the staff to understand how to make this happen.

The apartments themselves are clean/tidy but very basic as far as the usual utilities expected in a self-catering apartment. Our self catering facilites consisted of 2 x plates, 4 forks, a kettle, a microwave and a casserold bowl. DO NOT RELY ON BEING ABLE TO COOK IN YOUR APARTMENT. The fold out futon in the lounge is suitable for two young children to share (i.e. 4/6yrs) or one adult but not for older children.

The pool/restaurant etc is excellent and the proximity to the beach is fantastic for access. There is fantastic restaurants just outside the hotel at both the streetside and the beach entrance. This is a great property for children. There is a regular free shuttle bus to KUTA which is handy.

One word to the wise, think twice about getting one of the temporary tattoos from the poolside stall. We got two tattoos for my 5 year old and he has since developed skin blisters and not has a nasty rash that looks infected.

A few negative things above but I would recommend this property to families but perhaps look at staying in the hotel in interconnecting rooms instead of the residence.

Just returned from the Jayakarta Apartments Legian, which are located at the entrance of the hotel. Used the resorts facilities FANTASTIC!!. Stayed on the 3rd floor in a one bedroom apartment. My son slept on the sofa bed in the lounge room and the bad thing was, he could hear anyone in the hall and the light from the hallway shone through the glass bricks all night. On the other hand my daughter and I slept in the bedroom and we were not disturbed at all. Should have got a 2 bedroom apartment. Otherwise UNREAL! Highlights of our trip: Elephant trekking in Ubud: (Serene and beautiful). White water rafting: (Best thing we've ever done) book with Bahama Adventures Cheaper. Cruise to Lembogian Island, aqua clear water. Water sports included, so exciting. Dinner at Jimberan bay on beach, waves roll in, sand under feet ,serenaded as we ate freshly cooked and caught seafood. HEAVEN!!!! WE LOVE BALI !!!!! WILL RETURN!!!

We stayed here for 6 nights, origianlly booked elsewere and was not happy with the accomodation and tried our luck at the Jayakarta. We were very impressed with the Standard room, ok, it could do with a bit of an update but the bed was so comfortable and the aircon worked. The breakfasts were fantastic, through out the resort we were always greeted with a smile and good morning or good afternoon. It was in the best location, right amongst the best resturants in Legian. We would stay here again.
