“Great stay”
Reviewed August 8, 2010

We were very worried about staying at the Padma after the news of the gastro outbreak. Having small children it was a hard decision. When we arrived the manager came out to explain what had happened wit the gastro and assured us it was all ok - and it was as none of us got sick. The building didn't interfere with the stay, although there is a fair bit of it at the front of the hotel and by the new pool - at the end of the day they have to build and we chose to stay here knowing it was still going on. The hotel staff all did a great job and were really lovely. We really couldn't fault the hotel and will stay again. It is a shame that the gastro outbreak caused so many bad reviews, but it did make us more diligent with the hand sanitiser!

The Padma is a beautiful hotel and has some great facilities but it could do better in some areas. We booked a garden club room and stayed there with our 1 year old. Nice room but it was on the 1st floor so we had to take the pram up and down the stairs every time we went to the room.
The staff at reception when we arrived were terribly slow -everything took so long and at some points there were 4 members of staff helping one person. This happened every time we went to reception and it took forever to get an answer to anything. Not good.
The garden club facilities are good - if u dont have a child. The free cocktails are available to adults only and when you book they do not tell you that your child cant come into the lounge with you. We were told our daughter must go to the kids club - however the kids club is for children over 2 and they did not want to take our daughter as she was too young. Eventually they did look after her but we werent comfortable having her in there and we really should have been told that the club didnt allow infants. We paid extra for a facility we couldnt use. During the day you could go to the club for soft drinks and ice cream - which was fine if you can put up with the other guests staring at you because you took your baby in with you.
Breakfasts were good and there was a lot of choice - service was always very quick. WE found the food around the pool to be ok - nothing to write home about. Another note to parents is that there is no childrens menus in any of the restaurants - or healthy kids snacks anywhere. if you are happy to serve your kids chips for a week then its fine. A few kids choices (or even half plate options) would have been good.
Also altho the resort has lots of ramps for prams pushchairs- at the end of every ramp there are stairs. To get to garden club - stairs. To get to Bella Rosa restaurant - stairs. To get to beach - stairs. Not pushchair or wheelchair friendly.

Good points - gorgeous pools, rooms were beautiful and air con was great, nice touches like mozzie nets and mozzie pug ins in your room, beautiful hotel, very calming.

Overall we had a great holiday but Padma you could do better. Make it easier for families - garden club access, access in and around the resort, childrens choices, and train your staff to be quicker! Oh and your spa is way too expensive - i got 4 treatments at another spa for the price of a manicure and pedicure at Padma!

We nervously arrived at the Padma on 2nd August expecting to see everyone sitting in the lobby being sick but none of that was to be seen. After reading reviews and speaking to someone who stayed here I was considering changing hotels but I am so glad we didnt. We stayed in a deluxe chalet and the room was spacious and the king bed very comfortable. No issues with air-conditioning - in fact we kept turning it off as it was too cold! The massive shower in the ensuite was incredible and the hilight of the room for us. Free wifi in the hotel room was an added bonus too. There were signs of renovations happening and being in chalet 570 we were around the corner from it but with the air con going, you hardly heard anything. The new pool and swim up bar was fantastic. Buffet breakfast was sensational and the staff were very attentive and friendly. Unfortunately the gastro outbreak has tarnished a few reports however once one person gets gastro, it spreads like wildfire. So, we spent most of our time out and about after breakfast or in the room and the new pool and we came back untouched with no gastro or any other bug. We will definitely stay here again but in a lagoon room so we can step out into the pool from our room!!!

We have stayed at the Padma twice a year for many years- but something is now seriously wrong at this resort and we warn others of our experience. We would not return to this hotel based on our experience and on the attitude of management to our complaints and the complaints of others.
Our family, two adults and three young children, became ill on the second day of our stay in the deluxe garden chalets with sudden and serious projectile vomiting, fever, diarrhoea, severe cramps, headaches and incredible lethargy after only eating at the Padma. There were FOUR doctors plus nurses walking around with drip kits in plastic shopping bags servicing very sick people in their rooms. When we checked in, management had not warned us about an already serious sickness in the hotel. Even worse, when we confronted the management they played things down and sent us two plates of fruit and an apology letter.
When we visited the hotel clinic a Perth teenager was being taken back to her room to be put on a drip. People were lining up outside the clinic - the situation was very serious yet nothing was being done by management to warn new arrivals or remedy the situation. For example: when our son projectile vomitted across the floor, this was cleaned up with a towel and no disenfectant was used - God help the poor people who went into our rooms when we left on July 28.
In addition to the illness: the toilets were leaking in our room from the screws that hold them on the floor. These were the upmarket garden chalets, remember! The power went out twice, with the sickly children suffering in the middle of the night with no airconditioning. The DVD player broke down and was replaced with one that had a broken remote, the globes kept blowing BUT worst of all, for two nights there was a pervading smell of SEWERAGE in both our rooms. It was revolting.
When we again went to the hotel doctor, a different one this time, he said 60% of stool samples had tested positive to amoebic dysentery. He described it as an "epidemic". He said babies were also getting ill and the hotel had tested its water to no avail. He said the local hospital was full of cases. We spoke to a doctor in Perth and took the antiobiotic FLAGYL for a week. Liquid for the kids, you can get it from chemists in the area.
The hotel manager on duty that day played down the sickness. He said it had started two days after we became ill - yeah sure! He said it had only affected a total of 15 rooms but the doctor had shown us a list in of rooms he had to visit that day and it was more than 10 rooms for that particular day!! The manager also claimed the illness had hit the Kartika Plaza hotel and others in Seminyak, but we can't find any mention on this site.
The Padma has been undergoing never-ending renovations. There is an itinerant group of workers apparently living at the hotel, you can barely walk down the driveway without falling over rubbish or a car parked in the driveway. Where are these people toileting? We also spotted a sewerage removal truck in the entrance for two days - they have sewerage problems.
We are now at home, we were sick until yesterday, August 3. We lost all of our holiday for a family of five, and we have undergone medical treatement upon our return. At no stage during our 10 days did the hotel issue an health alert or disenfect our room. In addition, no compensation was offered for the poorly state of our deluxe garden chalet.
There is something seriously wrong at the Padma Resort. We won't be returning and I would advise anyone planning on staying there to change their plans.

This holiday was to celebrate a friends 50th Birthday, we had 20 adults and 7 boys aged, 12-14.
We all stayed in Garden club suites and paid extra for the club benefits.
What we didnt expect for free was 3-4 days each laid in bed with what could only be described as the worst case of Gastro possible, we were there 36 hours before ours started in the middle of the night with stomach cramps, vomiting and the runs! A doctors visit to our room, injections, anti biotics, a $200 bill and 4 days later we started to feel better, although we have been back 5 days now and still the the runs!
During this time, one by one, every adult in our party became ill, some having to have the doctor visit on more than one occasion, another needing an intrvenous drip for severe dehydration.
No explanation, no appologies, no offers of compensation! Our accomodation cost a nice $3500 for 2 adults and 1 child.
We have visited Bali 5 times and lived in Indonesia for 2 years some time ago and have never experienced illness like it.
Did it spoil my friends 50th Birthday? What do you reckon!
Would i visit Bali again, yes sure, would a revisit the Padma? Not sure.
Tidak apa apa!! as the Indo's say.
As for the other comments made, every day the topic of conversation in the Lobby, Cafe, around the Pool Bar or at dinner was who now was sick!
Not the best report for a hotel that is supposed to be sooo good.
Good Luck if you are about to head for the Padma.
I would recommend this hotel for next year when all the rebuilding work has been done and no more builders are around to stare at you.

Dear Valued Reviewer,

Thank you for posting your review of our resort.

In regards to the diarrhea outbreak, we’ve taken immediate actions by sending all our F&B handling staff for a rectal swab test. We also did water tests and the results came back all negatives. We still don’t know the cause of it but for the last week, everything is back to normal again.

I understand about your disappointment. We hope that you’ve all completely recovered by now.

Best regards,

T.Soerjanto

The Padma is a beautiful resort with immaculate gardens and great pool set up. The new Lagoon Pool is huge and a great design. We stayed in the Lagoon Access rooms and love the easy access to a late night swim. I would imagine in the really hot season that this would be a great way to end any day. There is still a little construction going on, but you would have to be really picky to say that it affected your stay. The air conditioning in the rooms seemed to struggle in the middle of the nights and I am not sure if that is due to weather conditions or an attempt by the hotel to cost cut. I was sick on the last night and was awake most of it and the lack of cool air made things even more uncomfortable.

We were not aware of a gastro outbreak and I marked it down as just a unlucky hazard within a Bali trip. The breakfast at the Padma are great, but with so many people around the buffet food any outbreak would quickly spread.

The Padma is situated about a 20 minute walk from Kuta, which for some people would be great, but my preference is to be much further away and up near Seminyak, which is a more quiet area and has a lot more nicer places to eat. Kuta and Legain are both very high density areas with way too many aussies with tatts and footy jumpers!

I stayed here in 2009 and encouraged 2 girlfriends and a couple on the plane to join me this year and was more than happy once again and so were my friends. The staff are incredible and more than happy to accommodate every request. The breakfast is one of the best I have ever experienced in hotels and I have travelled the globe! The new breakfast area is very impressive and moulds beautifully with the surrounding grounds. The new pool is magnificient and although I didnt get to stay in the rooms nearby I would expect that walking out of your room into the pool would be the ultimate. Will plan to do this next year! I am also looking forward to seeing the remaining construction completed next year as it will surely add to the experience. Well done, to the staff and management of Padma Resort and for the complimentary cakes provided when the heavy rainfull caused the closure of the older swimming pool due to flooding.
