“Superior Room... NO WAY! Grand Deluxe... really nice!”
Reviewed August 1, 2009

We booked through a travel agent that forgot to tell us that there was a lot of construction going on. Anyway, we paid for a 5star hotel/room and were showed photo's that looked amazing. When we arrived we were put in a Superior Room which was awful. Like a 3star hotel. Very old, run down and did not give the feel of Bali or resort. We called our travel agent and asked to change. The Grand Deluxe room was really nice and clean and gace you the feel that you were in a resort.
The hotel is under a lot of construction.
Pool area does not have enough sunbeds since many people drop off towels and then never show up. Staff does nothing about this.
The hotel is not "kid friendly". No activities for anyone in general.
Padma does not have it's own beach (as we were told). The beach isn't very nice and rather dirty. You wouldn't swim there. Surfers are fine but not to swim.

*I would recommend this hotel to someone who is single since the location is great for doing things around the hotel. You aren't stuck in the resort 24hours.
*I would not recommend this hotel to someone with children. No play area, no activities.

I think you can find a nicer hotel for the same amount of money. The hotel is about a 4star and not 5 as we were told.

Dear Valued Reviewer,

Thank you for posting your comment on Tripadvisor and very nice to know that our Deluxe Chalets are to your liking.

At the moment, we are building a new, bigger Kids Club than the current one. It is expected to complete by early September 2009. By then, children can enjoy a fresh playground, new computer games, toys and many more activities to do. Meanwhile, the existing Kids Club still operates as usual.

If you do have ideas for our guest activities, please do not hesitate to suggest them to us. So we could consider adding them to the present ones.

My staff and I are looking forward to your family’s next visit to our resort, to enjoy our new, bigger and more entertaining Kids Club.

Warmest regards,

T. Soerjanto

We had booked the hotel Padma based on review and location in Bali. We were very much looking forward to our first trip to Bali. After we arrived at the airport the hotel staff greeted us and made us wait at the airport for a while; only to then be told there was no room for us as the renovations were not finished. I was angry at the fact we arrived at midnight that had all my contact details, e-mail phone etc. But they could not even have the decency to tell us before we arrived that we had no room. Then at midnight we were told that they had booked a room for us somewhere else. Being midnight and our first time in the country we had no choice but to go to the other hotel they had changed us to. So given this experience I would never stay at the Hotel Padma. I will still go back to Bali however the rest of the trip was great. Just make sure if your going there you have a room...

This was my 2nd stay at the Padma and I would definitely return in the future.

The gardens are beautiful, there is a great beach view (with a small road in between the hotel and the beach), breakfasts are the best I have ever had, the Superior room we had was very comfortable (not much of a view - but lots of greenery and cheeky squirrels to look at from our balcony), easy walk into Kuta, large pool area with a swim up bar and friendly pool side service, and staff were always smiling and helpful.

Don't use the spa/massage service - it is extremely expensive. Walk out of the hotel, turn first left, then left again and it's a 5 minute walk to the Melasti Spa complex - beautiful, friendly staff and massages for about $10 Aus instead of $50 at the Padma. There were renovations continuing while we were there - but it wasn't a big deal as the Hotel is so big we never were really bothered by them. We left the day of the new lobby opening and it looked spectacular. Security guys at the front gate always say good morning or good evening - nice to know they are there. Also used the money exchange there as it was very competitive and safe. Don't panic if you receive an "urgent" message to call home - the telephonist got a bit carried away and one of our husbands had just rung for a chat! Scared the hell out of us!

The Padma is certainly not cheap, and is getting a bit tired in some places - but it is still very beautiful and will be amazing when renovations are completed.

We'll be back...

Dear Valued Reviewer,

Warm Greetings from the Padma Resort Bali!

Thank you for your returned stay with us. I’m happy to know that you were happy with our strategic location, friendliness of hotel staff, lush tropical garden, breakfast, and other aspects of our resort.

I agree that our Spa costs more than the spa shops outside the hotel. Hopefully with our gorgeous new spa facility – expecting completion next September – the value of our spa will increase quite a bit more.

We’re all looking forward to have you back again with the new look of our Resort.

We love the Padma - we held our wedding in the Presidential Gardens opposite the ocean in July 2009 and it was fantastic. All the staff are friendly and added to a special night. Lucky for us, we also got to stay in the Presidential Suite. Fantastic!!

The Padma is a true resort if you are looking for a place that has a beachfront location for surfing & shopping, an enormous pool, very friendly and helpful staff, huge variety for your buffet breakfast, clean & large rooms serviced daily, security searches at every exit and it has big enough grounds so that you don't see the same people all the time.

The pool lounges seemed to be a problem for people who arrived mid morning, and you did have to battle early to claim them. They are building another pool near the fitness centre (which we used every day), but I imagine that all other hotels would have people leave their towels on chairs all day while they shop as well. Not sure how to fix that one, other than to wake up early and beat them to it.

I had a facial in the Mandara Spa which was relaxing and somewhat overpriced, but I was happy just to stay in the hotel. The on going renovations were hardly noticeable, but the areas that have been renovated are beautiful. The 4 bottles of water per room per day is a nice touch.

The pool lounges are so comfortable, and the pool waiters are there for your order at anytime (special mention to Purna for great service and good conversation). The best banana milkshakes in the world.

Dislikes (and I am being picky) a little too cramped for breakfast if you hit peak times, and the pool could have some sort of railing somewhere to help you get in and out - but that is it.

Family of 4 with 2 teenage children - we had 2 superior rooms booked with interconnecting doors. We would definitely stay here again.

Dear Valued Reviewer,

Greetings from the Island of the Gods!

I’m glad to know that you find our staff friendliness, our breakfast, our room, and resort location to your liking.

You’re right. We’re going to build a second pool in November this year. After its completion mid next year, I’m certain guests will be much more at ease with the use of sun lounge chairs. You may want to know that our newly renovated coffee shop will reopen next week. So, the “cramped” at breakfast issue should be substantially reduced by then.

Thank you and regards,

just returned from 14 night stay with 2 AD & 2kids (8 & 10yr)

Lovely hotel, great location, new gym, lovely staff but very overpriced.

renovations in progress usually machinery only heard around pool during the day.

We have stayed in Bali aprox 12 times and paid half as much in more luxurious hotels.

In our 2nd week the hotel was FULL....
Pool chairs were usually taken by 0730am by guests who would then go off shopping for hours for many hours.
We witnessed some very childish fights over pool chairs.

Queues for breakfast buffet.

We were told it was a great family holiday, but it didn't really cater for kids other than a very small & tired looking kids club.
Boys fought over the one playstation in kids club.
There is a new one being built I believe.

Food and drink in hotel was very expensive, what you would pay in a 5 star hotel in sydney.not what i would expect for middle range hotel in Bali.
3 small soda waters & 1 small bintang = $20 aud (always add 21% tax )

In room food service expensive.
The hotel restuarants always appeared empty,a reflection of the prices i would imagine.

very crowded around the pool, not sure I would want to be a honeymooner there either.

We enjoyed our stay at the Padma but felt it was extremley overpriced.

Dear Valued Reviewer,

Warm Greetings from Padma Resort Bali!

I’m happy that you and your family have enjoyed your recent stay at our resort despite the on-going renovations at some of the hotel facilities, including the Kids Club.

Expecting completion early August, the new Kids Club will be more than four times as big as the current facility. Besides having separate rooms for toddlers and teenagers, it will also have additional computer games and a range of other activities to choose from.

Meanwhile, we’re working on providing additional ground for more sun-lounge chairs to accommodate guests during high season period.

We’re committed to improve our values and hope to have you back to the Padma the next time around.

Best regards,
