This review falls into two clear parts; the first explains what I consider poor customer service from the management regarding our booking. It smacked of complacency and left a really bad taste in our mouth. The second part details the resort and, in a way, makes the first point more frustrating as generally we eventually had a great time there.
Without doubt, this would have been a five star review except for the fact our booking was handled dreadfully before we arrived.. It is a lovely place but we felt that the management lacked a personal touch and left us feeling misled and ignored.
We booked a Deluxe room through trip.com and requested by email a quiet room away from the road in advance. We were emailed back to say we had in fact booked the very basic level and couldn’t be guaranteed a quiet room or with a balcony! Even though I sent screenshots through our booking showing a Deluxe room reservation the hotel refused to help and told me that their booking partner had got it wrong. Surely that is up to them to resolve and not us?
To exacerbate this, our flight into Bali was cancelled meaning we payed the hotel for one night we did not stay. I emailed them to ask if they could therefore use any funds we had paid for the room we didn’t use could be used to make sure we got a deluxe room.
I didn’t get a reply.
I copied the General Manager in on two emails and they didn’t respond either. The net result was, after taking two full days to get there and being exhausted, the first request on checking in was to pay them an extra $80 for the room we had actually booked – not a very nice welcome at all.
One other example of the poor customer service was their response to our "quiet room" request. Although I reiterated this at check in we were put next to the lift, very near to the tennis court and had noisy people above us. Immediately in front of our balcony builders started work at 8am every morning - not what I consider quiet!
Having said all that, this is a lovely resort!
We enjoyed our four nights there (not the five we had hoped for!) and it has a lot going for it.
Getting there – it is a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport into the lovely gardens of the hotel.
The hotel will pick you up but their price is £23. (Many hotels offer a free airport pick up \ drop-off). In the end we used a company called Klook who were great. Their price was nearly a quarter of the cost at £7 and the driver was waiting for us in an air-conditioned minivan right outside the airport exit.
Location – perfect.
This is an established resort and is just over the road from the beach. The road is pedestrianised so it is quite quiet. You are also very near to a much busier Melasti road and note some rooms back onto this and I guess they will be noisy.
It is a short walk into the centre of everything. You are never far from an ATM, convenience stores and the beach front has lots of nice restaurants around it so location is great.
Rooms – we (eventually!) ended up in a deluxe room which was lovely.
They are very solidly built so you get only a little internal noise to disturb you. The beds were quite hard but we slept really well and the air-conditioning was effective.
All the usual things you need for a comfortable stay are there including safe, bathrobes, umbrellas (definitely needed in the rainy season), dressing gowns, TV and so on. The bathroom is nicely laid out, big and again with everything you need.
Our favourite place though was our balcony which had a comfortable settee, clothes dryer, two chairs and a table. We spent ages here in the morning and evening overlooking the beautiful gardens and the wildlife.
Wi-Fi – free for unlimited devices and ran at a very respectable 28gb.
No need for constant logging in and it reached everywhere including the rooms and pools. A real plus point for the hotel.
Pools – another strength for the resort.
There are two of them all with very comfortable sun loungers around them and very little bed reservation. There is a 1 hour removal of belongings policy but this didn't appear to be implemented on the occasions it did happen.
This was the low season and we never had any problem getting two beds together and moved around the two pools during the day depending on shade and so on. It is nice they have separate areas for children and for smokers.
Food – because there are so many great restaurants around the area we didn’t eat in the hotel in the evening.
Breakfast was really good though. Served in their lovely restaurant overlooking the beach it has something for everyone. A wide range of international and Indonesian dishes are there – both hot and cold. The juice was really good, the coffee not so much. The service was so friendly and warm and this was a high spot of the day.
Staff – other than the debacle before we checked in they were very good indeed. Pool boys and bar staff were great fun and very professional. Smiles never far from their faces.
It was always going to be difficult for the hotel to get us back on the side after what I considered poor treatment with our booking. Trying to reorganise cancelled flights in a foreign airport is hard enough without hotel management disputing a booking you have evidence of. Their mission statement talks of being "your home away from home" - it certainly didn't feel like that at that moment!!
Without this, think I would’ve seemed completely different and, as I said before, it would’ve been a five star review.
