“GREAT PLACE TO STAY SOOOO CHILLED OUT!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2013

I Stayed in one of the dorm rooms and really enjoyed myself. The people who stay at the Island are really cool surfy type people and the staff are so nice to The Island is located close to everything so transport costs are really low also it's walking distance to the beach.
All in All a really ideal low budget hotel that offers a real personal touch.

I stayed in this hostel for 1 week with a friend. For us this was an excellent place to stay and organize trips around bali. The food is excellent, the rooms are clean, beds really comfy but most of all the crew consists of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Always ready to help and give advice.

I read a lot of reviews before going travelling & found the island on here to be very highly rated so I pre booked 7 nights in a dorm. I read that this is a chilled out hostel which is exactly what I wanted. I am a 28 year old female traveller & I wasn't looking for a typical "party hostel" but wanted somewhere I could relax & make some friends. Unfortunately my experience at the island didn't live up to the amazing reviews!
There were some positives about this hostel...it was very clean, dorms cleaned daily & beds changed. Spacious rooms, comfy mattress & air con. Therefore the dorm itself was actually very comfortable. Shared bathrooms were ok, I didn't feel like there was much privacy in the showers though as they had no locks.
The communal areas were well laid out, nice places to sit & the cafe made very nice pizza! Easy to meet people.
Nice, small pool with about 5 sun loungers, well kept grounds.
Staff were pleasant & helpful in cafe & on reception.
The reason I didn't enjoy my stay as much as i had hoped was lack of sleep! I have stayed in many dorms before & understand that sometimes sleep isn't the best when sharing with a lot of people but this was very bad! the hostel seems to attract the party types & therefore forget a good nights sleep. One night (morning) I was woken up at 4am by a group coming in from a night out who decided to jump in the pool, shout & play music. I put my ear plugs in a suddenly I noticed a guy had climbed up my bunk & was trying to get on my bed! I told him where to go! Another night I had a girl next to me return from a night out at 6am & took a guy to bed with her! Not very nice when the upper bunks are so close together. Another night a group were banging on tables above our dorm playing drinking games & it was extremely loud! & actually my last night while i was sitting with some friends, they played it in the cafe around 11am & a local came in shouting at them saying there were families trying to sleep.
I think there needs to be something put in place to stop people from being so disrespectful of other guests & using the pool so late. If they wanna stay out until 5am, fine but be quiet going to bed!
I made some really nice friends here & I think if you are travelling or on holiday but aren't wanting to party every night, book a single room! I wish
I had!

I visited bali for a week and it was my first time travelling alone so I didn't book into a dorm room as I didn't know what to expect ! I stayed here for 3 nights in a double room alone which is great but a lot harder to meet other people. I was lucky and met a load of great people as there are a lot of good communal areas. The rooms are very clean, everything you'd expect from a boutique hostel! I would definitely stay again.

Stayed here for 6 nights in the dorm room. They're 12 person dorms, but the rooms are so spacious and the beds are set up so you barely notice anyone else is there. Beautiful pool and views, off the main street so it's not too noisy at night. Staff are friendly and the pizza at the cafe is awesome!

The Island was my first Asian hostel experience, and an experience it was!! It is the cleanest, most aesthetically pleasing hostel i've ever seen. I love the way the dorms are set up, I LOVE the pool and outdoor lounge area, I love all the sun lounges upstairs and the staff are really sweet. The location is really good, not right amongst the craziness but not too far away either. If you are traveling with a few extra dollars up your sleeve, don't miss this place!

i spent three nights here with a mate in the dorms in mid july and we loved most of it!

pros:
1/ air-conditioned and spacious dorms, sufficient space to store your bags (valuables in a locker, luggage in the shelves or by the bed);
2/ sheets are clean, very comfortable bedding and clean towels are provided. there is even daily housekeeping in the dorms.
3/ the pool is a great place to chill at and plenty of opportunities to meet fellow travellers and make friends. it is a very relaxed environment, and there are areas on the roof top to chill as well.
4/ brekkie is simple but satisfying. if you are willing to top up 40,000 more, the fruit salad is really yummy and the eggs anyway are delish. we definitely thought it was worth it.
5/ if you stay 3 or more nights, the island refunds you the taxi ride cost from the airport - 70,000k.
6/ it is fairly well located, a short walk to shops, cafes, double six beach. there's a lovely japanese restro called ryoshi just a 15 mins walk from the island that serves very reasonably priced sushi and sashimi.

cons:
7/ very few powerpoints in the dorms. you have to share powerpoints with others and for those sleeping on the pper bunks, it can be quite inconvenient.
8/ there are 2 dorms. one is on the upper floor but there's no shower room/bathroom upstairs. you have to go downstairs to shower/use the bathroom which can be inconvenient for some. we were lucky to have the dorm downstairs. that said, there's only 4 shower cubicles, 4 toilets and 4 sinks. i thought it was a little too little for 20 people at maximum capacity sharing (2 dorms x 10 persons).

all in all, if you're on a budget, travelling alone or with friends and looking to make (more) friends, this is really the IT place to go. in my limited experience backpacking, this is by far luxury amongst the backpackers.

that said, i will not recommend the island for couples looking for a quiet romantic getaway or light sleepers hoping to get proper rest. it can get rowdy at night as the dormers drink and party by the pool side at night. given that this is a small complex and all the private rooms are next to the pool, it is likely sleep and any quiet romance will be interrupted.

Room Tip: if staying in the dorm, request for the dorm on the ground floor if you want convenience to the bath...
