“Nicest hostel dorm ever!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2011

I decided to stay here as a solo traveler in order to have some company while traveling in Bali for the first time. The dorm was super clean and nice; a/c, clean sheets and blankets, small light about each bed, locker and shelves. The staff were very friendly and gave me a complimentary drink on arrival. I met great people and enjoyed the wood fire pizza oven and rooftop bar and seating area. Los sof people around, but very quiet sleeping in the dorm. I'll be back!

I found this place on TripAdvisor and as I was arriving initially alone I wanted to feel safe. I have stayed in luxurious places before and whilst this isn't luxury what you get for what you pay is excellent. I stayed the first two nights in a dorm with 8 bunks separated into four with private dividers between bunks and lovely white curtains to separate the sections. It was clean and quiet. The aircon and fan made it comfortable and I am a light sleeper yet I wasn't disturbed greatly by
roommates. There is one bathroom next to the dorm with one shower
and toilet. Despite this no queues. I didn't manage to have a hot shower for some reason but that didn't bother me. There was an unpleasant odor at times but once again not a big issue. Breakfast was all I needed. Fruit salad, dry but nice chibata toast with yummy jam and honey plus quite good plunger coffee. The location is also good. I walked along the beach to Discovery Plaza to get my sim for mobile (took about 50 mins) and last night I walked up to Eat Street ( about 40 mins). The beach is 5-10 min walk. I am staying in a Double Bunk room with a friend when we come back from Ubud. I imagine that will be also good. Massage was also v good.

The place is gorgeous, everyone is soo friendly and the vibe is fun yet chilled. We stayed in a private room which was so comfortable with lovely beds, bathroom and air con. Loved the free massage, free delicious breakfast and the beautiful pizzas at the cafe. Neil the manager is a really great guy, full of tips of what's happening around the place and best venues to visit! And don't forget to try Andre's delightful cocktails in the roof top bar. You have to try this place!

I stayed in a dorm room for three nights. I highly recomend dorms in The Island. A dorm is a spacious room, housing 16 bunk beds (4 sets of 4 beds). The sets are divided by curtains, so you can achieve some kind of privacy there. The beds are super-comfy, room is airy with good AC. There is a small bathroom with a shower on the same floor as the dorm, but I prefered to use a bathroom downstairs with four showers.
Hotel has a very pleasant patio with a small swimming pool and few sunbeds, as well as very nice common areas.

I stayed at the Island for four nights with a friend in a twin room. We were more than happy with our stay. The staff were friendly and always willing to help out. The room was basic but had everything we needed. Lots of places to relax in the sun. The free massage is worth it but just be warned, there is no concern for modesty. The breakfast is simple but also good to get you going in the morning. Definitely try one of their wood fired pizzas. The hotel is a little diffilcult to find unless the driver picks you up from the airport. It is situated between Jalan Legian and Jalan Padma Utara, which makes it a great central location but still quiet enough as it's tucked away down a lane.
Again, the staff were great: we left Legian for five nights in Ubud and they still let us store our bags for the day and for a small price we used their driver for our trip to the airport. Really helpful!

All the rave reviews are true-this place is gorgeous and a little oasis-more like a spa retreat kinda feel than a backpackers.

Being my first hostel experience, I really enjoyed the dorm rooms at The Island. Yes, it is not the cheapest place around (in Bali it is better to stay in traditional 'homestays' for value for money) however there are many good things about it. The beds and bedding are really luxurious, puffy quilts and comfy matresses (just a shame they are covered in plastic as it's noisy when you move!). The dorms are spacious and light and privacy can be achieved as there are curtains partitioning the bunks. Other good things were:
The social aspect - we met lots of new friends
The space / architecture - lots of different and quirky areas to chill out, such as the sunset bale
The pizzas are yummy
The staff are really lovely, warm and helpful
Airport pickups and free massage if you book 3 days - worthwhile!

Things that, for me, could be improved on:
The price - a little on the high side for Bali standards
The bathrooms - dark (no windows) and actually really quite smelly, felt a bit unclean even though they are cleaned each day, they never actually felt clean
The breakfasts - as mentioned by other reviewers, the breakfasts are meagre e.g. you have to decide BETWEEN fresh fruit or juice you can't have both! And they charge extra for all sorts of little things like a spoonful of yoghurt on your fruit, ouch.

The location in Legian is stunning, I loved wandering down the little stone alleyways. The beach is not far, 10 mins walking. Taxis struggle to find it, though.

All in all a pleaseant experience.
