“Average but good value”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Second time we've stayed here but this time in the new block at the rear in front of their new pool. Stayed upstairs in a superior room which is spacious with a shower above bath. These rooms are relatively new and have a small fridge and TV with asian channels. The air conditioning was very effective.
The upstairs rooms have a small balcony and it's a bit uncomfortable as those in nearby rooms have to walk in the narrow walkway which is part of your balcony. As with most places in Bali the lighting is very dim.
The staff are extremely helpful going out of their way to provide help with anything. Be aware that the included breakfast is very basic and the only internet available is in the restaurant area and can be unbearably slow.
Location is good as its near many good restaurants and a short walk to the beach. This is a good value hotel for the price if your aware of its shortcomings.

Stayed at Suriwathi Hotel on 5 occasions always in the deluxe rooms.Rooms cleaned dailyTowels, bed sheets changed daily.Good air Conditioning.Large rooms.Breakfast is not one of the strong points of this hotel. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful.Any problems we have had have been promply resolved by the staff.
Outside the property is only a short walk to the local eateries and markets.

We stayed for 3 nights. The location was good, the pool small and quiet (good thing). The staff were not very friendly, but not rude just seemed o spend a lot of time standing around talking and laughing with each other. Breakfast was exceptionally basic. But the rooms were big, beds comfy, AC cold.. All in all we got what we paid for. I would have liked a room a little closer to the pool, I thought being in a Deluxe room we would have been. It was good, just nothing special.

Stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. Got a simple double room for 35,000 rupees.
Beds were comfortable, air-conditioning, TV (no channels in English). There were no shelves for bath stuff in the bathroom, very uncomfortable.
Each time opening the door to the bathroom we had seen there huge cockroaches.
Dirty swimming pool. Breakfast was very simple, like in all hotels of this level.
Wi-fi was only in the restaurant.
Remember: the hotel is in a state of repair, so you'll often hear noise from outside and see the workers.
Overall, not bad, we were not expecting anything supernatural for such a price.

Room Tip: the normal hotel for a quick stop over

I have been to Bali more than 30 times and have enjoyed every stay bar this one. For the price per night $78USD I would not recommend or stay again.

Breakfast is a joke. 1 piece of toast with fried egg juice or fruit tea or coffee. Or the thinnest banana pancake I have ever seen with juice or fruit tea or coffee. We asked for another piece of toast one morning and had to pay 10,000rp I know its ony $1.00 but its not the point. My husband by 11.00am had to go and get something else to eat which is unusal for him. He is not normally a big eater but this breakfast just didnt fill him up at all.
The towels in the room are disgusting they are not white but a very dark shade of greay with black stains. Same goes for the sheets. We asked for extra pillows and what came I would not let a dog sleep on. They where filthy with mould and stains. The people in the room next door had mattresses on the floor for the kids that where mouldy stained and had holes that looked like they had been chewed by mice.
There was 2 showers. One in the bath that only came up to my husbands navel and wasnt even attached to the wall properly. No shower curtain. The other was on the wall outside the bath that soaked the whole bathroom even the toilet. Why 2 showers I dont know. No toilet roll holder so the paper was constantly on the floor getting wet. We had to ask everyday for towels. When they cleaned the room that kept taking them and forgetting to leave new ones. One night by 6.00pm we still had no towels when we asked we where told the laundry had run out. Luckily the lady next door had a spare one that she gave us. I can understand running out of pool towels but not bath towels.
Even though there was TV in the room there was no english speaking channels. We where told the only english one was at the bar. Who wants to sit at the bar to watch tv? We found this ridiculous as the hotel was full of Aussies.
No kettle which is not really a necessity but all other hotels seem to have them now.
There is no security at the back of the hotel which is where all the new adjoining rooms are.
The staff where pleasant enough but they dont speak much english or seem to understand it.

This hotel has the potential to be a really great one if they would just provide the basics. My sisters where staying around the corner at the Rama Garden which was cheaper than ours and it was beautiful
The grounds are lovely and tranquil. It is situated far enough from the road so you dont hear whats going outside. It would be a fantastic family hotel as theres pleanty of space for the kids to play instead of beling couped up in the rooms. We are going back to Bali in April with our grandsons so it would be ideal for them if they where to upgrade there facilities.
When we got home we had 2 emails to say we had been charged a cancellation fee of $78USD because we where a no show at the hotel. Strange as we had already been there 2 days.

Pros:-
• Great location easy walking distance to main Kuta Beach
• Easy walk to Jalan Legian [ main shopping street]
• Nice grounds and set back from noise of street & Kuta in general
• Cheap! AU$40 approx. a night
• Air Conditioning works
• Breakfast Included
• Clean Towels daily
• Good water pressure & hot water
• While rooms are small, beds are comfortable [ & who spends much time in the room
anyway?]
• TV in Superior room
Cons:-
• Don’t try the cheaper Standard room where the shower [ without curtain of screen] is
almost over the toilet
• No fridge in Standard room [ approx. AU$30 approx. a night
• Rooms are small
• No bathmat & shower [ over bath] does spray over floor
Overall:-
• One gets value for AU$ at this 2 Star hotel & I would certainly stay there again even if we
had to ask for & pay for an upgrade due to original room allocation being a `challenge’
Small pool but more than adequate
Plenty of eating venues in easy distance

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room with airconditioning and fridge

Suriwathi isn't the flashiest hotel in Bali, it doesnt Try to compete with the many 5 star resorts in surrounding areas, Instead, suriwathi is garenteed to give you a personal experience and a opportunity to make great friends with the local staff who work there daily. The rooms are adequate in size for the price, we stayed in the delux which was sufficient for two.. We had a look at the villas while we where over there and they are absolutely stunning, the walls and roof are made of beautiful carved wood similar to the roof in the dining area.. The kitchen/dining area is small but the food is amazing for it's price (like everything at suriwathi) the pool is beautiful and for the three weeks we stayed, we never saw it anything but crystle clear. Suriwathi staff will always go the extra mile to ensure you enjoy your stay, they are humble, beautiful people who are always up for a laugh. Suriwathi is hidden away in an alley off Jalan sahadewa, passing by you wouldn't even know it is there which is what make suriwathi so beautiful, you can escape the hustle an bustle of Legian and relax in a down to earth, friendly home away from home.
