“Not bad, but...”
Reviewed September 10, 2008

We stayed 3 days in August. The room wasn't too bad but the price was bumped up to US$70 because it's high season. We wanted to stay for 4 nights, but when we booked, they said it was all booked out. When we actually arrived and were checking in, they were expecting us to stay 4 nights, but, I already booked somewhere else for another night because I was told no vacancy. They didn't look happy like 'you booked for 4 nights and now you're cancelling one night' kind of... Maybe all of a sudden they had a vacancy...I don't know, they never came back to inform me that. But, while we were staying the hotel didn't look fully occupied at all (?).

Another thing was that I requested for a free transport from the airport before we got there which they refused and said it was US$10 for one way from the airport. So I didn't use it because I knew taxi was cheaper (about US$5 for prepaid taxi at the airport). When I arrived there by taxi, they said they arranged a transport for me at the airport to pick us up (not a free one). Again, they didn't look happy, But, I was annoyed by their self confirming for their own convenience without confirming/informing with their customers.

The room was generally clean, but, for our last night, cleaners forgot to replace complimentary mineral water and replacing clean cups/glasses. Don't expect staff would be friendly all the time, maybe it was high season and they were getting enough customers without putting much efforts.

One good thing about the hotel though is the it's restaurant where you eat breakfast. It's right on the beach which is quite nice.

Don't book any trips at the hotel reception. It's heaps more expensive there. If you book through trip booking kiosks which you can find anywhere in the street in Kuta/Legian/Tuban, you can get big discounts. In Puri Raja, they charge you for the printed prices in the trip brochures.

wow this place was better than what i thought it was gonna be, i found this hotel by reading everyones reviews on this site ,it really helped me pick a great hotel ,so im hoping it will help you make your decision too.this place was very clean ,they were always tidying the gardens and pathways.it is a smaller block of hotel villa style rooms ,all with balconys upstairs and verandahs downstairs, the rooms were spotless,tv ,fridge with complimentary water, and full of drinks to buy.plenty of storage space for all your shopping and our room had a safe, which was great so we could leave our money and passports in, you pick your own safe code.the bathroom has a bath and shower in one, very nice.if you book with breakfast included you only get the choice of the american breakfast which is, fruit platter or juice, eggs sauasage and bacon, croissant or toast, and ask for nescafe for your coffee coz bali coffee is not the greatest.
the front reception is right on the street front in legianand then the hotel is long and narrow shaped and the other end of the hotel is directly acrooss to the beach ,no traffic at the beach end of the hotel as it is blocked off to cars so alot of people go walking along.
next door was the melasti hotel and many people staying there wanted to move to the puri raja but this place is apparently booked well in advanced,i was going to choose the melasti but im glad i didnt ,puri raja is just so peacefull and quiet, many of the poeple staying here were older than us and we are in our late 30s,very quiet at nite so i got some great sleep, except for the fireworks that people kept setting off at kuta beach.
easiest way to go into kuta was to walk along the beach ,we found that alot easier than trying to dodge all the shop people outside on the streets.there is 2 pools one at the road end where people read and tan ,very quiet pool and the pool at the beach end has the bar and music going.i can keep talking all day about this place ,i was really happy ,all staff friendly and always smiling ,we are planning on staying here again without a doubt.

We have just returned from two weeks at the Puri Raja Hotel. The hotel rooms were very clean and comfortable and staff were very friendly and helpful. The grounds were very immaculate and the pools were clean and kept tidy.

The breakfast was very good and fresh.
Price of the hotel was excellent and right on the beach and so close to so many nice restaurants.

We spent alot of time at the pool as they have a childrens pool as well and everyone was very friendly.

We had a great stay and would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at the Puri Raja for 5 nights this time, but would have stayed for longer but it was all booked out. We also stayed here on our first trip to Bali. We stayed at 7 hotels on this trip (including Hard Rock, Discovery Kartika) and it rated as our overall favourite. It is real value for money. The breakfast is great (especially as it isn't buffet so you don't over indulge) and the staff are also very friendly. The rooms are clean and tidy and it is a very quiet hotel. I like that there are 2 pools as well. The hotel isn't very big which was a plus for us. You don't feel like another number!
We would definitely stay here again, but we will need to remember to book in advance!

Smaller style hotel with a great location fronting the beach with good access to beach, restaurants and shopping. Rooms small but clean and all had a balcony or equivalent. Restaurant food very disappointing and most nights would not see anyone dining there when all other restaurants around were frequented. Found drinks relatively pricey when compared to others around. Staff often in short supply and no drinks service at the pool nearest reception. TV channels very limited

Overall our stay at the Puri Raja was great. The staff were very polite and helpful and the grounds were well kept with beautiful gardens and two nice pools. Breakfast was served in the beachside resturant and offered the traditional Balinese as well as "American style" food. (Vegemite was supplied for the Australians!!)
The only negative with our stay was a "smell" in our bathroom every afternoon. I assume it came from the bathroom drain and seemed to be strongest in the afternoon. Friends were also staying at the hotel during the same time and their rooms were odour free.

  • Liked — The friendly staff.
  • Disliked — The smell in the bathroom.

Comparing this hotel with the rest around the Kuta and Legian area this place gives the most bang for the buck. The breakfast could be better but the view from the resturant makes up for it in a heart beat. When I return to Bali I will defintely stay here again. Its ok for kids, the kiddy pool is a little deep and there was only one kid channel on the T.V. but the kids didnt mind at all. It was quiet and acomidating to all our needs as a family. Cant wait to go back.

  • Liked — Being close to the beach, good food and shopping.
  • Disliked — The breakfast, and all the stairs down to the rooms.
