We stayed at the Puri Raja for 4 nights in May. All 8 of us (4 couples) adored this hotel. We went in expecting a 3 star hotel - exactly what it is, & were very pleasantly surprised. I was expecting stinky old towels - ours were all fine! The room did have a faint smell to it, but if the airconditioner was on, it was not noticeable. The aircon's worked perfectly...if not too well!
The room access was with a key - not a card, so there was non of this - leave the room & air con goes off business, infact, if we turned ours off, the staff put it back on!
We were up the front (reception end) of the hotel, rooms 236, 7, 8 & 9. They were quiet & perfectly located.
the hotel seemed full, yet not too many people around.
We visited the pool bar on a few occassions - cheap drinks & great friendly service, but ended up going to the other pool at the front of the hotel, as NOONE else was there!! Bizarre...so the 8 of us virtually had our own pool.
Breakfast was terrific. You could order whatever you wanted at no cost - we had Nasi goreng most days, plus fruit, plus coffee plus juice (beautiful, fresh made) All included in the cost. One of the guys ordered about 4 things at no cost!!
Pool menu is super cheap & good food (not fancy, but fine!) Tom Yum soup was the best i had in Bali! Everything was minimal cost - a few dollars!
We ate in the restaurant 2 nights, had drinks & pool snacks, as well as room service late one night & our bill on leaving was about $120 AU!!! We couldnt believe it! Would have cost that for the room service alone at home!
The staff were all so friendly, & learned all of our names first off! Ask them for any advice & they are more than happy to talk. They were great.
All round, we loved this place. Perfectly located & great value for money. We would return in a flash.!

Room Tip: Rooms in high 200s are on the quieter side of the hotel. We loved room 236! Great air con & huge...

We spent a week at PR in mid May, having chosen this hotel as we were unable to get a room at our usual hotel, which is located right next door.

On the plus side, the location is wonderful, the grounds lovely and the staff as pleasant and helpful as you would expect. We did not use either of the pools, but they always looked sparkingly clean when we walked past them. Our room was, at our request, upstairs, quiet, and away from the pools. When we were in the room, with doors closed, it certainly was very quiet, even if guests were sitting on balconies nearby and talking. Breakfast was fine, with a reasonable choice of items included in the room rate, and others available for a small extra cost.

On the minus side, our room (209) was very dark, with two small windows which had a number of thin timber pieces running from top to bottom, making them look rather like being in a jail! Even with the curtains open, the room was very dark. The curtains were absolutely filthy, stained and stank of dirt and stale tobacco smoke. The bed was lumpy and very uncomfortable. And the pillows were by far the worst I've ever experienced in my 60+ years. Towels were old, grey and thin, and a hand towel was not provided. The air con worked OK, was a bit noisy, but not too bad. It was however, located directly in front of my side of the bed, so blew cold air across me all the time I was in bed, even though we had it set at 26 to minimise the coldness.

The room itself was Ok in size, but desperately in need of a coat of paint and a thorough clean. The wall behind the bed had large blotchy areas where the paint has worn off, it really looked very drab. The bathroom had a very bright fluro light, good for putting on makeup, but the whole room was not particularly clean, with thick black mould on some of the grouting. The toilet seat was slipping to the side when used and we let housekeeping know about the problem. They came with a person to repair it, but said it was safe and was OK and nothing could be done to improve things. By the time we left, we were unable to put the lid down on the toilet because of the angle that the seat was sitting.

We also found the lateness of housekeeping in making up the rooms to be inconvenient. We generally went to breakfast around 7.30am, and then went out somewhere for the morning, usually returning home early afternoon. Only once was the room made up when we got back. We usually wanted a shower after walking around for hours, but never had dry towels (especially as they were also being used for drying hands). If we wanted an afternoon snooze, it was generally interrupted by the room boy wanting to come in to make up the room. Most days it was not done until after 3pm.

I needed to use the wifi and paid for internet time. It was so slow that it would not even open half the sites I needed to visit. the next day I went to use it again, and it was "being repaired" - so I never did get to use the time that I had paid for.

Would we stay at this hotel again? possibly, but only if we are desperate for the location, otherwise, it has not a great deal to recommend it. If it had some renovations and refurbishments, Puri Raja could be a little gem!

We returned this year for another enjoyable stay at this great little hotel. Right on the beach, it's perfect for my husband and son who can get a surf just out front of the hotel. I prefer the pool near reception as it is quieter, most of the time we shared the pool with 4 other people. Brekky is yummy and filling. The staff throughout the hotel are very friendly, Even on the ground floor there is some privacy on your verandah as it is surrounded by the beautiful well kept gardens. Room service is prompt....my daughter loves the chicken burger.

A great location with many restaurants within walking distance to choose from...Mozarella next door on the beach (very popular) and the Niksoma restaurant (which is non-smoking) a few doors up. Out on the street there are many restaurants both ways to choose from.

Go down to the beach and have a drink while watching the sunset and counting the number of planes arriving. This year the beach was a lot cleaner and each morning there was a tractor on the beach cleaning it. Hire a lounge on the beach for the day...very cheap.

We will stay at the Puri Raja again.....a small hotel in a great location

Room Tip: We stayed both times in interconnecting rooms on the ground floor closer to the beach front, good fo...

This was my first trip to Bali and first stay at Puri Raja. I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else, as the staff were wonderful and friendly, the breakfasts were fantastic and the atmosphere around the pool was warm and inviting. A smaller hotel amongst many larger ones in Legian, but that is what has given Puri Raja it's charm.
The hotel is close to many restaurants and bars and a short walking distance to a variety of shops. The view at breakfast time is wonderful.
We were told by others staying in the hotel (who have been up to 13 years in a row) that September is 'busy' with footballers and schoolies is a time to avoid, especially if you have a young family. Can't wait until we return!!

Room Tip: Rooms towards the front of the hotel are quieter, as they are away from the main pool area but in ge...

For a first time traveler to Bali as an adult. I stayed at the Puri Raja with my partner and 2 friends. The hotel was perfect; the staff was amazing and friendly. To previous review that have given this a bad review, I think you would be happier paying $300 a night down the road. The rooms were a great size for a couple and my friend’s room was good for 2 single guys, the restaurant was perfect for breakfast. For someone that is a fussy eater, I never had an issue and the view you have while eating breakfast was priceless. The location is awesome, turn right and you have shops & restaurants within 5-10mins and to the left around the corner you have Sammy’s Restaurant, which is a blast.

All in all, I will be returning to Bali next year with a bigger group of friends and will be coming back to the Puri Raja, It’s just a home away from home.
