“Fantastic Honeymoon Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2009

Im a travel agent and I have stayed at this hotel 3 times and in February I stayed for my Honeymoon. From the moment we got there we were made to feel special with private check in, welcome drinks, special room set up, chocolate honeymoon cake and massage vouchers.

This property right on the beach (great for surfing or surf lessons), beautiful gardens, not a high rise, friendly staff, rooms are clean, roomy, and have a Balinese feel. We stayed in a Deluxe room, these are situated in groups of 2-4 spread through the hotel grounds and they have an outside bathroom. There are 2 pools, one is on top of the restaurant with a great view esp at sunset and another pool next to the bar (very cheap).

It is on the main street of Legian beach with many restaurants and shops, it is walking distance (10mins) to Kuta, although depending on the heat a taxi costs $3AUD (local taxi not hotel transfer).

I would recommend this hotel and Bali to anyone who loves warm weather, cocktails, swimming, relaxing, seeing animals, water sports, value for money and a relaxed life style :)

This was our first trip to Bali and the Mandira was recommended to us. The grounds and gardens where beautiful. The resort was opposite the beach with a walkway between you and sand, waves and delightful sunsets. The staff where always smiling and friendly and went out of there way to make you feel welcome. I would recomend the Mandira to anyone wishing to stay in the Legian/ Kuta area. We checked out all the surrounding resorts and honestly thought ours had the nicest atmosphere, like a tropical oasis.

we stayed here for 8 nights with two small children, the rooms at the back of the resort were the only ones available for a family. The rooms were small although had good air con. The location is pretty good if you want to shop at markets. The bottom swimming pool was a let down pretty small for a balinese pool & there was construction work going on around the pool. The top pool was nicer. After staying at the Novotel Nusa Dua this place was a let down. Considering the price & rooms I would not stay here again.

This is a hotel that has it all, be sure to get a deluxe room if your budget allows (this will include free soft drinks & juice all day & all alcohol is free between 5:30PM-7:00PM -- yes everything, also internet in lounge is included with deluxe room. Upon arrival we were also given free massages for 2 and a welcome drink. Breakfast is advertised as the best breakfast in kuta and it really is very good, be sure to have the banana pancakes cooked fresh upon ordering.

My Grandmother and I stayed in Bali Mandira for two days during Nyepi last March. We were greeted with warm smiles. (Special compliment to Mr. Lukito, the gentleman with wide smile that brought our luggages and showed us our room.) Check in was a breeze, and we were given cold towels while waiting. Our room was on the top floor of the tower wing, Premiere Room 9301. Upon entering the room, we were very happy and surprised! Well the front office area looked modest so we were not expecting that kind of luxury ;) Very nicely decorated, not that spacious but very, very comfortable. Four poster bed and one leathered long chair for watching the TV. The verandah was big enough with two sofas and a coffee table. Too bad, the view to the ocean was kinda obstructed by the palm trees in front of the building. My Grandmother fancied the lazy chair over the bed, even for sleeping. She dozed off many times while watching the TV!
The bathroom was very nice. Bathtub was separated with shower chamber which was made from glass. The wash basin felt kinda cool. The bathroom was actually not that large, but the arrangement of the room made it felt comfortable. Smart interior design, I'd say.
Air cond worked perfectly. Cooled us off after a hot day walking around the beach.
Breakfast was superb, a lot to choose from. Chicken porridge, eggs corner, cold cuts, cheese, bread and pastries, sausages and bacon, potato gratins, and all were very tasty. Food was always fresh, warm, and plentiful. The hospitality of the staff were genuine. I noticed they were greeting guests with "Hello. How are you today?" or just walking around saying "Coffee, Sir? No? Tea, perhaps?" Warm and polite..First class genuine hospitality!
Since it was Nyepi weekend, we had our dinner at the restaurant. Everything was pricey, but being the 4 star hotel it was, and remembering the view and service we had during the time, I would not fault it. But the food was too salty even for me that loves salty food (salmon pizza was way too salty)
I went to the top pool area at 7 AM. Tried the jacuzzi but the infinity pool was more interesting for me, and I had it for myself! A good 45 min of healthy luxury for the eye, the body, and the mind. I did not go to the lower pool since there were many kids back then. Looked pretty shallow to swim anyway :)
The garden was very well maintained, clean and lovely. Very refreshing.
The beach was very clean and it was good to see the security there cause that means that the premise would not be crowded by the street vendor, and not just anybody can enter the hotel area. Access road on the beach side was limited to security approved traffic only.
Mandira was strategically located. Near Carrefour and the shops and cafes in Legian. You can ask the front office to phone the Blue Bird taxi for you, free of charge.
All in all, it was a great experience at the Bali Mandira. I just contacted my travel agent to book the same room for me next May, but sadly the price had increased nearly double. Well, I will still reccommend Bali Mandira to my friends and family.

As our first ever time to Bali, we decided to stay at the Mandira as it is VERY clean, great security and great location. When we first arrived we had a few air-conditioner problems and moved rooms in the middle of the night. First impression of service was not good.
However, the manager sent an apology to us with a beautiful dinner voucher to enjoy at the hotels restaurant which absolutley delicious! Buffet breakfast was incredible!! (make sure you book with breakfast included) A big thankyou to "Tony" who was the nicest waiter you ever meet and offered to take us on day trips to various locations!
Hotel Spa was normal priced for us Aussies, so if your looking for dirt cheap pampering, theres heaps out on the streets which were just as good.
Rooms very small, but the cleanliness was all that mattered to me, because once your in Bali, your not spending alot of time in your room anyway!! Especially when the mandiras pools are so relaxing to swim in. Great ocean views from a top deck pool, and a lower ground pool where you get the beautiful ocean breeze.
All in all a fantastic stay at the mandira!!!!
Would book again to see the staffs friendly faces!

We booked a deluxe room via direct rooms (they had the best rates), and were very fortunately upgraded to one of the suites in the tower block when we arrived. The room was just perfect! It was bright and spacious, and the toilet was huge and had a really lovely raised bathtub (which was tiled with slate) overlooking the balcony, resort and the ocean (but wasn't a great ocean view since it was really far away)...

The suite came with other perks like access to the lounge with free internet and drinks during certain hours.

Its beachfront location was a definite plus point, and daily breakfast was served in the Parasol restaurant overlooking the beach, which was literally 10 steps away.

There were 2 pools; 1 was a raised infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Both pools were quite small considering the size of the resort, and the infinity pool was quite a disappointment as one could see the roof of the restaurant below and the zinc gutters that collected the water from the sides of the pool.

In contrast, when we went to the Odyssey surf school at Mercure Hotel in Kuta, the raised infinity pool had a totally unobstructed view of the ocean. We had also previously stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel some years ago, and to date have not found anywhere with a better pool!

It was overall a very pleasant experience, and I would recommend it for those who want to stay in Legian and be right on the beachfront.

  • Liked — clean and spacious room and toilet
  • Disliked — swimming pools
