“Good but not great...”
Reviewed August 14, 2010

We were 2 couples and booked to stay in a two bedroom ocean view suite in Jan end this year. Loved the look and feel of the hotel - very contemporary and clean. The best part of the hotel were the service staff - very friendly and helpful - they even organised an awesome cake for our anniversary. Awesome breakfast spread too witha nice view of the beach. Not a very great location as hotels go in Bali and we ended up spending a fair bit on taxi travel.
Just two bits that were annoying - while we had booked and paid for an oceanview suite we were given a suite on the ground floor with no view whatsoever. The other sour spot was the rates the hotel charges for airport transfers - exhorbitant!! we did the smart thing and opted for a cab from the airport which cost us less than half the price!!

Having read good reviews and seen nice photos advertising this hotel, I was VERY disappointed on arrival. The lobby was crowded and very busy and frankly pretty tacky and first impressions do count! The staff were unfriendly at best.
The hotel, although not very old was already looking really run down. The worst of it for me was the lack of privacy. We were lucky (as a family) having a third floor 2 bedroomed ocean view apartment which is probably one of the best. However, all the rooms are totally over-looked and people walk past the so-called balconies which are in corridors leading to the lifts! You had to keep your blinds down at all times to avoid being over-looked. We were there in June (and yes, I've only just written about it now!!) but as I often rely on trip advisor views, I thought I WOULD write for once, as this was such a let-down.
To finish off, the pool was very unattractive and impractical and during the busy season (as it was for us), in the unlikely event that you would have liked to stay and sit by the pool, you had little chance of getting a free sun-lounger, let alone 4!!
The whole area was not that nice and the beach fairly average. We had previously stayed in Ubud at the Komaneka which was lovely and at the Westin in Nusa Dua which was also lovely and quiet.......

My wife and I decided to honeymoon in Bali. Needless to say the trip was amazing, but unfortunately our stay at O-CE-N is a memory I hope to erase forever.

Without elaborating too extensively, we booked the hotel online. We showed them the confirmation and all, but when they had trouble getting in touch with the agency...they put the responsibility on US! Every day the harassed us into trying to double pay for our hotel to ensure that they got their money, then on the last day as we tried to leave we were held back to "resolve" this non-issue, being stared down by security and their drug dogs...

That honeymoon-shattering issue aside, this hotel is meant for families and young kids. The rooms are modern and sleek, but lacked in function over fashion as the walls are paper thin (we had trouble sleeping every night) and the entry doors don't close fully because of their unique locking features so mosquitoes got in every night.

The food is definitely good, but they don't cook their eggs very well so keep that in mind before you get salmonella...like I did.

The service is reasonable, but you are really just another number to them so don't expect any individual attention.

The big upside for this place is the location. It's loud, crowded, and right on the Legian beach boardwalk, about 1.5 miles away from the Hard Rock Hotel.

Bottom line: we will never stay here again and would NEVER recommend it to anyone in the future.

We had 5 girls stay in a 3 bedroom penthouse, l thought the word penthouse meant the best. However here it means split level. The unit was lovely, however we thought we were getting a georgous balcony over looking the ocean. I booked over the internet and paid $5000 AU $ dep via direct deposit, it tooks 6 weeks and 5 emails to finally get a receipt for the deposit. I owed $1000 US$ when we got there and had the cash in American dollars ready to pay. I was informed that the American notes which l got from the Comm bank were to old and had to be printed from the year 2006 onwards. I have never heard such rubbish. Money is money. As l did not take a credit card they were quite aggresive and iniitally said that we could not stay. (Even though l pd $5000 US already). Finally they agreed to accept the money and we got to our room. As stated above it was very very nice, just a little dissappointing as we thought we were getting an ocean view with a massive balcony. Apparently there are about 10 room types and you need to ask for a 3 bedroom ocean view, not a penthouse. Don't even bother with the studio type rooms, they are no bigger than a normal bedroom with queen bed, 2 couches, TV, bathroom and kitchenette all in a tiny tiny room.
Having said all that the resort was beautiful, the pool and breakfast awesome. Probably a little dear for a family, however if splitting the bill between 6 of you it is quite reasonable. Internet was very expensive, $8 for hr, so found resturants close by with free connection.

stayed one night only, due to my sudden extension in Bali.
modern design(a no no for those westerner who look for a taste of asian theme), friendly and helpful staff.

stayed in studio, located on the ground floor , true if u have concern about privacy, esp those single female traveller. but to me, it's not a concern, as i could enjoy the easier access to seminyak beach.

BUT, as the comments others made, problem when riding a taxi back hotel front door,
have to pays around 2000IDR EVERYTIME at the gate ( i checked with the hotel staff , the fee is payable to the local village people , some long before the area development pre-agreement), the hotel MAY compensate this fee with receipt.

3 problems with me, no free wifi
and the ventilation, i guess the design problem or malfuntion,
I could smell the other room's "business" ..
the last, the pool ..... well .... let's forget it.

When checking out, Outrigger asked for a 2% surcharge for payments by credit card. This was so outrageous, that I paid it so that I can tell everyone. Don't get caught by this one. On principal will never stay at an Outrigger again.

Other than that, good bargain place in the middle of Bali's surfing and drinking area.

Rooms were modern, well equipped and clean. Bedding, towels changed daily. Staff are friendly and most of them helpful. Pool was average, heard a bit of noise on Friday night from nightclub next door and barking dogs in the morning (I'd already read a tripadvisor review on the dogs so I wasnt surprised). Air conditioning perfect, lots of glass providing lots of views - beach across the road and privacy blinds for night.

Restaurant was really good, good selection of food - hotel prices, not particularly cheap. Breakfast included was ok, cereals, toast, fruits, juices, cooked (sausages, bacon, eggs to order, noodles). Once breakfast time over it was lunchtime etc. so restaurant never closed - very convenient.
All up it was a fantastic huge (penthouse) and comfortable place, I would definitely go back another time but will try to get a better price - we paid top dollar this time around.
