Grand Balisani Suites
Ranked #8 of 36 Hotels in Kerobokan
Reviewed August 28, 2014

We loved our stay at the Grand Balisani Suites for my 50th birthday celebrated with many friends from the USA and Australia. They all absolutley adored the hotel. The breakfast is terrific and offers all you can think of from the gorgeous Indonesian porridge and other indonesian/balinese delights to the beautiful breads, mueseli, yoghurts, cooked fared (bacon eggs omelettes) to the fruits and the strange stuff the europeans eat! Just jokes! The location is perfect! Quiet and on the beach. Free shuttles run from 10am to Kuta Legian et al and there are plenty of amazing restaurants around within walking or very short cab ride. There are some warungs on the beach who offer very good tucker and fantastic sunset views. Yes i am biased with this hotel, it has a wonderful charm about it, our service has always been fantastic, staff always polite and understanding and always go the extra mile. Great pool with relaxing surroundings. You are around the corner from the fabulous scenery of Canggu. I had wi-fi in my room at all times, which were always clean and very comfortable. If you want away from the every expanding hustle and bustle of Seminyak, this could be the place for you!

Room Tip: The ocean view rooms are of course wonderful with amazing views of the ocean and sunset. Room 412...

The location of this hotel is great in that it is right on the beach . We stayed in a garden suite which was very big and comfortable . HOWEVER the marble bathroom floor is very slippery. On our first night my husband slipped on the bathroom floor and broke his wrist . The hotel got a dr at about 3am and organised for a hospital the next day. The Dr and hospital said it was a simple break an put it in plaster. On our return to Australia the Xrays showed a much more complicated fracture and an operation was required. Motto dont rely solely on Indonesian health care .
Apart from this unfortunate start the Grand Balisana suites provide value for money . The breakfast is okay (not fantastic) and gardens are pleasant (a bit worn and a bit crowded ). Staff were helpful

Room Tip: the garden suites are roomy and pleasant . Beware the slippery bathroom floors.

Balisani has some great potential and once upon a time must have been a great resort. If you are thinking about Balisani there are a couple of things you need to consider.

Wifi: there is officially no wifi in the rooms: it is only supported in the Lobby and the restaurant. In reality it means that you also have some wifi at the pool/garden and that the rooms close to the lobby have wifi. Even though I am on holiday, I do want to be a bit connected in my room; time for an update. Anyway, the wifi (anywhere) is quick enough for some browsing, but streaming video you should not try: then again, this seems to be the standard in Bali: if have seen only a few places where they have actual quick internet (e.g. the neighbours at Mozaik).

Location: if you want to be in the middle (or close) to where it is happening in Seminyak (restaurants etc), then you need to be aware that you need a 10 - 15 minute taxi-detour as Balisani is only reachable by a road a bit north from the 'strip' in Seminyak. The location is also not in the area where you will have many taxi's who take you on the meter. I rented a scooter: which is the only real way to go about in Bali. In that case you also have the advantage to be in 15 minutes in Canggu (if you take the shortcut). The resort is at the beach; which is just lovely.
So: if you are the type who does not want to drive scooter, but want to go out the resort every day; then Balisani might not be for you.

Style: the resort is build from stone/concrete etc. When it was new, it must have looked stunning. A part of the used 'stone' is made out of 'concrete-bricks'. Well: after some years this just looks old and worn and that makes the resort look a bit outdated as well. In the rooms there is mostly wood in a typical Bali-style. Our room, after we switch to a room close to the lobby, was fine. Enough space for 2 suitcases; bed is big enough and the bathroom was ok. Some hanging wires (of what probably used to be a toilet-phone) and light-bulbs which really don't fit; a well. In 6 days we had no warm water in the eve for 2 times and no towels: it is in the small things.

Breakfast: big, plenty of choice and a killer view over the pool and the ocean.
Overall I am happy I have chosen Balisani: it was very calming; I had a scooter and it is nicely located between Seminyak, Canggu and at the beach. In that area all the other hotels are way more expensive.
Taxi on the 'meter' will be about 100'000 Rp (with Bali traffic). Hotel pickup will be more.

Room Tip: Close to lobby has wifi-service.

I stayed here with my daughter and a friend for 6 nights in August 2014. The room was a little small by Balinese standards but the hotel more than made up for it by the beauty of the manicured gardens, the pool, the seaside location and the quietness of being just outside of the hustle and bustle of Seminyak but close enough to still be a part of it. Staffw ere friendly and helpful.

I was there from the 13 - 17 Aug 2014. On arrival I was downgraded to a twin bed suite after paying upfront a week earlier for a Dulux Suite.I was not offered any complimentary service in compensation for the downgrade and when I asked, i was told that it needed a higher level of approval. I requested to speak to the manager which never happened. Its was only once the travel agent got involved that the manager eventually came to speak to me and offered a complimentary service. However, by then I had spent two nights sleeping on a single bed and bitten like crazy by mosiquitoes. On the 3rd day i eventually was moved to the dulux suite that I had paid for. Apart from downgrade the pool facilities were good as well as the service. Food was also good. Hotel rooms were clean, however, the sheets have passed their used by date and are discoloured.

Room Tip: Confirm prior to departure that the room you booked is available or else you will arrive and have no...

We arrived during the early hours, very tired. We were warmly welcomed by reception staff and check in was smooth for our two rooms. There are no lifts, but not a problem as porter helped us with our bags to 4th floor.

Our rooms 408 and 405, deluxe sea view, enjoyed wonderful views over the thatched roofs out to sea. We were able to sit on our balcony early in the morning or for evening sunset. Rooms are spacious, enough storage, but not enough hangars. There was a good TV, fridge and kettle for that morning tea. Suggest bringing your own tea bags unless u like jasmine. Fabulous shower.
Room, sheets, and towels cleaned every day. Always staff around cleaning, polishing and sweeping. Hotel is very clean. All staff were so friendly and happy to help in anyway they could.

Breakfast offered fresh fruit, lots of bread and pastries, hot choices with chef cooking eggs, ie omelettes, fried eggs. Also continental - cheese and sliced meat, yoghurt and muesli. All very fresh and plenty of choices.

The hotel is not modern design. It is more traditional. There are carvings scattered around the grounds, built in dark Balinese stone and the roofs are thatched. That is it's charm. This hotel has character and we loved its uniqueness and the fact it wasn't shiny and modern. The grounds have beautiful koi pools, fountains and gardens, the gardeners seem always in attendance. The fountains are turned off at night. The spa is excellent and spa staff are very talented. During our week we used the spa many times and enjoyed all our massages, bliss. Wish we could could continue with this at home, 1 hour Balinese massage approx £5.

The hotel offers evening entertainment, ie Balinese dancing, singer and keyboard player. This was fine for one night but we did eat out for our remaining 5 nights. Hotel offers a shuttle several times a day which takes you to either Seminyak, Legian or Kuta. Taxi was £3-5 home. Very cheap. Stumbled across two excellent restaurants, the Kori, Poppies Lane in Kuta and Watercress which was a 5 min walk from our hotel. See separate reviews.

You can walk to Seminyak on the beach, a lovely 25 min walk. Fine during the day, not sure I would attempt at night. Along the way you will see big modern hotels, all very different from Grand Balinisi.

We really enjoyed the pool, and spent a couple of days here, pool towels are provided.
Had a day on the beach towards seminyak but you do have to pay for beds and parasol, quite pricey compared to everything else - £20 for 5 hours. This is the surf side, so lots of guys on boards. Sea quite rough and at times you couldn't swim. If you prefer more swimming, best to stay in sanur on other side.

We were very pleased we picked this beachfront hotel, it really is a calm oasis from all in kuta and seminyak. Our last night we watched the sunset from a small bar on the beach outside our hotel, sitting on a beanbag drinking a bottle of Bintag and drinking coconut water from a fresh young coconut. Bliss.
