This villa complex is much more luxurious than we were used to, so a nice surprise for our holiday to Bali. The one-bedroom villas are well appointed and the bathroom has American-style fittings in it. The beds are firm, verging on hard, so it may not be the place for you if you like a really soft mattress. The pool is a nice surprise too and great to dip into after a day of touring. Housekeeping was great during our stay, though they don't necessarily restock the mini-bar daily (this wasn't a problem as we didn't use it much).

The hotel staff are extremely welcoming and very willing to assist you. There is a computer with free internet access near the restaurant which was good for our purposes (not many guests seemed to use it). Buffet breakfast, which was included in our tariff, was enjoyable and offered a good selection of dishes, though sometimes the cooked dishes are not maintained at a high temperature. We also had dinner at the restaurant one night, which was perfectly acceptable, but the food offerings elsewhere around the area are more varied and interesting (as well as being a little cheaper).

Tip if you decide to stay here: Not many taxi drivers know the area, because it's a fairly new development. Before you leave on your trip, make sure you print out a copy of the enlarged map on the website so that they can get you to the hotel.

Room Tip: We were in room 48, which was a reasonable way down a long block. (However, they have staff on golf...

We stayed in a two bedroom villa (villa 58) in August 2012 with two children aged 4 and 6. Location of the villa is quite good - about a 10 min walk to beach and La Lucciola, Potato Head and Biku. The villa looks exactly like the pictures. The only criticisms I would have is that the breakfast selection is quite limited and sometimes not hot enough. They do have a person who will make eggs to order. We had issues with no hot water, TV not working and mosquitos - all which were quickly and efficiently dealt with. The pool was too cold. This is probably because it is semi indoors. The stairs were a little cumbersome with children also. Housekeeping - particularly Ketut, were exceptional. If you need some downtime, might I suggest booking children into the Cubbyhouse at the Semara Resort - only a 5 minute walk away. Plenty for them to do and the staff are lovely. You do not need to be a guest at the resort. If you buy a pass for 10 visits it works out to be about 25000rp (approx $2.50 to $3.00 AUD) per hour. There is also the Bali Catering Company cafe about 5 mins walk which sells devine desserts and breakfasts at very reasonable prices (approx $5). The macaroons which are about 80c AUD were yummy. We had a lovely stay and would stay again for the location alone. They have a schedule shuttle service also to Seminyak, Legian and Kuta (one way). Generally you can get to Seminyak for under 25000RP, however Bali Taxi charge a minimum of 25000rp for a trip. Saying that, eat street is within easy walking distance if you don't mind the bumpy or non existent footpaths and don't have young children in tow.

Hi Cassidy, hope that you and family are always in a good health... Thank you for staying with us, the review and inputs as well. We've made an improvement in the villa and for the foods too. Now we've put a hand rail in every villa & make a routine & intensive pest control around the villa to minimize mosquito and unintended insect. Also, we had served different variety of main course for the breakfast now...and hoping our guest satisfy and enjoy their stay. Last but not least, thank you again and really hope that we could served you again in the future with our best possible services.
Have a good day & GBU!
Cheers/Gustra

This place offers everything you need! Stayed here for 4 nights at a last-minute rate you would never get for a hotel like this anywhere else on the world.
Every Villa has two floors with a private pool, bathtub with whirlpool function, beautiful bedroom. If you are traveling with your girlfriend or wife this is the place to go in Seminyak. Just a 5min walk from the beach, even though the hotel drops you off there or anywhere else for free. It has excellent English speaking staff who are overly friendly to help you with anything at anytime! The road leading to the hotel is a little bumpy but you don't even need to leave your Villa since it really offers everything that you expect!

This Villa is exactly how it looks on the internet. My partner and I were on our honeymoon and some days we did not leave the villa as it had everything you needed. Staff were amazing, service was great. Would definitely return to Villa Kayu Raja, Seminyak.

We stayed at the hotel for 7 days in June. We would not recommend this hotel to any of our friends
The villa had 3 levels the second level was beautiful with the bedroom and bathroom area. The top level was just the roof top with no view at all. The bottom level was very nice with a pool BUT you could not sit down there during the night as you were attacked by mozzies. The bathroom has got mould around the bottom of the bath on the tiles which made us feel very uncomfortable about how clean our room really was.
The lighting at night time was very poor and could not see anything. Must be using some power saving lights but you really could not see anything.
There was a very limited choice of food for breakfast which was cold and for 6 days, there was no changes in the 6 choices of hot food at breakfast time
The last 2 days we looked at breakfast in the hotel and it was the same again and we went down the road and paid for breakfast at Gourmet Cafe.
It’s advised we could use the shuttle bus to Kuta everyday which we thought would be great.
BUT the shuttle bus was very hard to utilize as it was always busy we asked 6 days in a row (at night time for the next day)and were told we could but it wouldn't be until 2-3-4pm in the afternoon. We caught taxis into Kuta at 60k Rupiah each morning around 10-11am
The hotel is not 5 star and we will not be staying there again

Room Tip: Lighting in room is poor

Villa Kayu Raja Having your own private villa was a perfect way to spend glorious days for honeymooner. Therefore a lot of good comment comes from our honeymooner guests, the villas are in a great location to walking distance to the best restaurants in Bali and is great to unwind.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommended our guests to stay at Villa Kayu raja in near future

My partner and I stayed at the Kayu Raja Villas over the Easter break. The place was lovely, clean, the service was good with friendly smiles and the food wasn’t too bad either. We would stay here again, and I highly recommend it.

We had the pick up airport transfer when we arrived. Distance to the airport is reasonable, time to get there though is bad if caught in peak hour traffic, which is what happened to us. After check in, we had to take our own luggage to the villa, not a biggie. By now, it was pretty much dinner time. We didn’t know where to eat so we went to the villa restaurant. Nice clean surrounding, very Balinese. No one else dined there that night while we were there I think because most would be enjoying the rest of Bali. To our surprise, the food was actually quite tasty and reasonable sized serves. The waiters were all very polite with friendly smiles, great service. The price however was reasonable for what we ate but on the expensive side for Bali standards. We had 2 soups and 2 mains and 2 drinks, costing just over AU$40. On other nights of our stay, we ate at other places nearby, most costing half the price.

The villa room was a delight. The pictures on the website pretty much say it all, except, our villa didn’t have the top rooftop massage beds. Pool was clean. The filter ran every morning. There is also a pool light so we could have a swim at night. There was an extremely small amount of algae/mould on the top part of the pool wall where the water level starts. It wasn’t visible until I got in the water. Oh actually and a bit of mould on the wall under the sunbed outside which was visible when I got in the water. I guess that part never really dries properly because of the lack of sun, but gets wet often. There was the odd brown millipede on the last night near the pool, but I would think that is normal for an outside area with plants. As with mozzies, yes they were there too. We forgot to use insect repellent on the first morning after our swim, bit of a mistake coz got a few bites. With insect repellent on the other nights, it was fine. I think its normal for Bali, so don’t let that deter you from checking this place out.

We managed to keep our room cool most of the time (decent aircon) and also the mozzies out by closing the door when we were getting in and out. Bathroom was clean and very decent sized with double basins and shower and bath area had a glass panel separating it from the sleeping area. There was a shower curtain over the glass for those that don’t wanna see their room companion showering/having a bath. I agree with another review, there was a bit of a foul smell from the water in the toilet and also the shower drain. It came with the usual little bonuses hotels have like 2 of everything such as shower cap, sewing kit, dental kit, and a few more things I cant remember. Generous sized tubes of shampoo, conditioner, shower/bath gel and body lotion were also provided. Shampoo smelt so nice too. Bed was very comfortable and spacious for 2 people. TV had lots of channels, 60 I think. Including channels in English, mandarin, and Indonesian.

For breakfast which was included for us, we had a good selection of buffet choices on most mornings for all the continental (cereal, pikelets, croissants, raison scrolls), American (bacon and eggs) and traditional Balinese (nasi/mie goreng, stir fry vegetables, congee). There was also a chef standing there with a fry pan making fresh to order omelettes (yummy), scrambled or fried eggs. Slightly watered down orange juice, watermelon juice and milk was also available on the buffet table. Tea or coffee was available on request. Im not sure if they have the buffet all the time because we stayed over the easter break and also as there were tour buses dropping off mainly Chinese tourists at night so the villa was full. On the Tuesday morning, we had to pick one as there was no buffet. The mie goreng was very yummy!

We also had massages in the living room (would have been nice on the outside roof area but there were no beds). The 2 girls were very friendly and did a good job.

Location – if you have a driver, it shouldn’t be a problem as it is a little outside of the main seminyak square area. The villa does offer the free shuttle to the square, but the van was out the morning we wanted to go so reception booked us a taxi. It cost 25,000 rupiah. Would have cost much less (I think the meter said 8000) if we walked to the main street down the road and hailed a taxi, but for booked taxies, there was that minimum. There are a few restaurants at the end of the road on Jalan Petitenget that were good. The villa isn’t walkable distance to much else. There are a few other villas on the same road that have similar style.

One bad thing about the villa was that our villa main power switched off a few times. Not sure why it did that. It didn’t look like it happened to other villas. Flick of the switch outside fixed it. No biggie, but it was a bit annoying as we had the air con on while we slept.

Overall, the stay was pretty much perfect :) couldn’t ask for much more.
