I had been given good recommendations to go to Sardine and people were bang on with their praises! Everything about the whole Sardine experience is top class from the scenery at the back of the restaurant to the quality of food.
We ate early with a booking for 6pm due to having a 16 month old but this allowed us to see the adjoining rice field on sunset which creates a peaceful ambience.
Only thing I could fault was the wine prices and the 200,000IRP corkage fee, it is Bali though and wine prices were similar everywhere.

Definitely our favourite spot for dinner. If you want a stunning setting and menu to match this is the restaurant for you. The rice field backdrop is beautiful and a welcomed change from all the beach restaurants and overall a very romantic restaurant. Staff are very helpful and service was perfect. We will continue to come back for sure.

We had read good reviews of this place so wanted to give it a go. We booked through our hotel and were promised a nice table. We arrived and had a drink which was fine. Most of the tables are out the back overlooking a rice paddy field - lovely location. When we were shown to our table we were taken around the front of the restaurant and given a table near the noisy, dusty road. No view of the paddy field. As soon as we sat down the waitress rather accusingly told us we had sat at the wrong table and someone else had that table. When we pointed out that was where she told us to sit she apologised that it was her fault but we were still at the wrong table. So we moved to the table next to it which was even closer to the main entrance and driveway (all open air). On complaining a manager came over and said we could move back to the original table and that the people who were meant to be sitting there didn't mind us having it! Whoever these people were I don't think they existed as nobody would have requested that table in the first place. So, we moved back and ordered. The food was ok, nothing special but nothing to complain about. Unfortunately we were right next to a bar seating area so it wasn't very personal and we had a lot of cigarette smoke drifting our way. Halfway through the meal, a more senior (seemingly) manager (the owner I think) was doing the rounds asking people about their meals etc. When she got to us we said the food was fine but we had had some table issues to which the rather snooty reply looking down her nose at us was 'Yes I heard'. I think there was a mutter of an apology but nothing to imply genuine concern. Maybe we just got unlucky but it doesn't seem to be a patch on nearby Metis. If you do go to Sardine make sure you ask for a table overlooking the paddy field.

I was in a group of nine friends from Australia, four had been before and given a really big rap so our expectations were high and we were not disappointed.
The menu had so many dishes that I wanted to try but eventually settled on a banana bell (flower) and baby calamari salad with a lime dressing. (See my photo) What a great combination. Followed by steamed barramundi which was yummy. My husband had scallops and then sardines which took him back to Portugal. In fact, there was not one criticism from our group. We moved to a lounge next to the rice paddies where we enjoyed dessert and after dinner drinks. What a great night...
Tip: We had a 6:30 booking which meant we were there before sunset and saw the rice paddies in daylight and at night.
There are tables at the front of the restaurant that do not have a view of the rice paddies. If you want the rice paddy view, you will need to request. Don't be disappointed if you can't the artwork and greenery of the bamboo gardens still provide a lovely ambience.

We have had Sardine on our list for a while so actually booked before we left over a month ago. Despite this, we were seated at the back of the restaurant without a view while other diners who obviously knew the man and woman at reception were given tables with a view. So as not to sound like I was dining on sour grapes, the food was lovely.
