While a little more expensive, this restaurant certainly delivers by way of cuisine. Terrific setting, lovely flavours and great service all combine to make this a special place to eat particularly in my experience during the day. I regularly visit here with visitors to Bali as a must do. Although the female owner does need to learn some pleasantries; people don't know who she is when she approaches the table and simply starts talking at you. Maybe an initial introduction on approach is a good idea!

My experience at Sardine was fabulous. I would recommend going for lunch so you can see the beautiful surrounding of the rice field. Food and service were excellent. Highly recommended.

First visit to Sardine and a disappointment! If you like the smell of cigars while you dine on 'fine' food this place is for you. Decor and theme great but the food a disappointment. No one in our group of eight was really happy and some who had eaten at Sardine before found the quality had gone down. Save your $$'s for another place! The 'octopus' salad was very short on the main ingredient! Mahi Mahi mediocre.

We just came back from having dinner at Sardine. We had read of the numerous positive comments posted here and this was also a hotel recommendation where we are staying in Seminyak. The setting of the restaurant was stunning, staff were polite, efficient, attentive and could explain the offering on the menu. Food was served quickly, was very good and reasonably priced. We had the sautéed calamari and grilled Vietnamese beef for entrees, the grilled whole fish ( Jimabaran style ) and grilled sardines for mains. Even the bread served before entree was yummy and we had to stop ourselves from finishing it so that we can have our entrees and mains. We moved to a table facing the paid fields on the terrace for dessert. What a nice way to finish a windfall meal. Great ambience!

The only thing that was very awkward this evening was our brief interaction with the lady owner of the restaurant. She had come over to say hello but the conversation was extremely brief and uncomfortable as the communication was non- interactive. We were left wondering what the purpose of her visit to our table was.

We recently experienced an evening meal at Sardine Restaurant in Seminyak and were somewhat disappointed with a generally bland meal, lacking imagination and a depth of flavour. After the hype from rave recommendations, beautiful experience and a relatively expensive menu offering, we had expected a truly special meal. Starting with complimentary tuna hors d'oeuvres followed by an entree of smoked sardines and soft shelled crab salad. The sardines lacked a distinct smoke flavour and the crab was not crisp and satisfyingly crunchy. Much to our disappointment, all three plates relied too much on the sauce or salad dressing, lacked seasoning and weren't paired with spices that allowed the main ingredient to shine.

For the main event we each chose grilled fish which was tasty, but lacked any special appeal or justification for the expensive price tag. Dessert awarded some reprieve, although perhaps our expectations were sufficiently dampened by this time, with a well balanced jack fruit panna cotta. Overall; however, the experience was disappointing and we wont be in a hurry to return. There are much better options for those seeking exciting flavours.

As an aside, the venue was very pleasantly furnished and the staff attentive. The setting, overlooking a rice paddy is quintessential although there were lots of mosquitos present as a result.
