“Make yourself at home”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

The title could be the motto of the owner of the Bungalow. We decided to visit Amed without any hotel reservation since we wanted to have the place to stay as shown in real instead of seeing it digitally from the internet that most of the photos are taken professionally for business purposes.

We knocked one door followed by another and found Lily Amed was nice and vacant. Yet, we did not decided to stay there and continued to find something better but finally got to come back and say, yes, we gonna stay here. Friendly Shasha, the owner, has hypnotized us to go no further and we both are happy to be there on her hands.

The breakfast could have been gorgeous if they served espresso instead of flat-local-coffee. In other moment, Shasha cooked us some Malaysian sweets at no cost reflecting her homey hospitality. We chat for quite long time and share about the place, hobby etc.

Our moment was a mix up because it was wet upon arrival and sunny the next morning. We can see the mount Agung on the background from the balcony while also witnessing local activity on the other side. Thanks to the local for demonstrating the how-to of making salt.

Our step was not stop only here. We went for morning walk on the beach and had complimentary foot reflexology from its stoney coast. From this point we already planned to come back for another visit, hopefully next year.

Room Tip: The amenities provided in-house is not always suitable to the customer demand. Bring your own shampo...

1 night in Amed in May. This place has just the right kind of Amed vibe. Its a peaceful bit happy trippy yoga love in joint. Nice gardens leading down to rooms some overlooking the beach. We were 2 friends and had a shared room with the second bed located on a mezzanine with great views down to the beach just metres away. Its not 5 star luxury but quirky simple and homely. Room was nice and clean and even without aircon only fan was comfortable. Nice simple brekkie with homemade bread as well. A steal at 300,000 rupiah a night for two.

Tip: Amed has beautiful sunrises but if you need to lie in take a facemask- the curtains are a flimsy token gesture. Its also a really quiet place with the most basic of shops- more like stands really. Take books and any other supplies to get comfortably relaxed. We missed a bottle of wine!

Hi,
I thank you for your kind review of Lily Amed.
I have made great efforts to provide a pleasant and "home from home" kind of place
for guests to relax in.
You mentioned the curtains being flimsy. I am surprised to read your comment on this because
the window next to the bed does have bamboo blind fitted, so the guests can use it to keep the
glare of the sun off their face as they sleep !! I am sorry you did not notice that.i
Lily Amed is the only hotel I have created and I am constantly doing things to upgrade the
"facilities" to improve it's appeal and comfort to all guests who elect to stay there.
THANK YOU AGAIN.
Sasha.

We stayed five nights in a upper level bungalow. We left the beachside doors and windows open and enjoyed the cooling sea breeze. We could walk right out onto the beach. There was a pleasant, shaded sitting area in the bar/restaurant space. Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly and accomodating. Drinks could be taken from the refrigerator on the honor system. Sasha the owner was friendly and offered good suggestions on restaurants. Enjoyed our stay.

I should note that at the time we stayed there was construction going on next door which was noisy. The only negative which does not really the concern the actual bungalows is that we arranged a recommended driver through here whose name is Ketut. This young man drove in a very dangerous, high speed manner taking us to Munduk and there was one near accident. He clearly had another job lined up and when we had a delay in a village due to a funeral procession he became very quiet and sullen and then hostile and angry with us for no other reason. We were extremely frightened and upset with his behavior. Beware.

We stayed for 5 days at Lily Homestay and it was a pleasure to be there.
It is located in a well maintained garden. The owner called Sasha is a lady of Malaysia is very friendly and has a lot of stories to tell. Her staff Chrisna and Wayan are very helpfull. They make their own bread for breakfast.Rooms are only with fan, but that is good enough because your rooms are almost on the beach. Also very important if you go out for lunch or
dinner you can go to Warung Enak which is the best warung at Amed at about 200 meters.

Our room has such a great view to the sea, its peaceful & quiet place, so u can do a meditation on 2nd floor. The snorkling spot is just a walking distance or about 20 minutes to Tulamben. The garden is nice, there is the mezzanine floor where we can enjoy mt agung sunrise/sunset .Warunk enak is a great restorant just 5 minutes walking.

We were lucky enough to stumble across this as we first entered Amed. It has a well maintained, bright white gateway that leads into a lovely long garden, right on the main road along the coast. This long garden works well because the rooms are at the other end, far from the road (which isn't super busy but it's a nice thing anyway).

Sasha, the lady who owns the place was welcoming, chatty and helpful. We stayed in the slightly more expensive (200,000-250,000 Rp) Mezzanine/2 storey rooms but well worth it for the view - the downstairs rooms have a view of a wall or the restaurant area. The sea around Northern Bali is wonderfully calm and you can sit in your room or in the restaurant and watch the boats coming and going. The hotel sits right on the beach too so an evening dip and watching the sun set behind Mount Agung is a must.

Rooms are bright, airy, spankingly clean and have a balcony/viewing area. The bathrooms reminded me of an old B&B on the south coast of England and there was plenty of hot water.

The breakfast was classic/basic indo fare - fruit salad, toast, egg, tea/coffee. On the main road, 10 - 100 metres in either direction are plenty of warungs/restaurants to eat in so you don't feel too isolated. We came with a driver but he stayed with his friends somewhere, so I'm not sure if there are driver rooms.

Overall, I would recommend this place to stop and definitely stay again.

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms offer best rooms/cool breezes.
