“Lousy food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2013

We had lunch again in Lereng Agung after our visit to Besakih. This is a touristy restaurant that is in the middle of nowhere. In the 2 times that we ate there on 2 visits to Besakih, there were no locals eating, an indication already of the place. The buffet food was lousy but edible except perhaps for the noodles and the fried bananas. Even the coffee tasted like mud! There was no other option for a lunch stop in the area so we again went to this place even as we already knew what to expect.

To top it all, when I tried to give my credit card to pay for our group, I was told by the waitress that they don't accept credit cards. So I offered to pay in US dollars. She quoted me a rate which our driver found disadvantageous so he talked to the manager. The manager agreed to take my credit card but added a 3% surcharge. Oh well, the price to pay for not bringing enough local currency. Next time around, we should just pack lunch.

“Stunning view-a large bat and average food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 29, 2013 via mobile

This is a tourist restaurant in the middle of nowhere on the Besakih temple route.
Out side the front is a massive fruit bat! The food is a Buffett affair and not very good but satay noodles rice and vegetables are edible and with some sambal is ok.The banana fritters are quite good actually.
The cost is 70,000 rupiahs about £6 so no great expense.
What makes the place is the view which is simply stunning.

“Spectacular View, Bad Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

Lereng Agung is a tour bus stop in the middle of nowhere, up in the area of Besakih Temple. It is your typical tourist restaurant with nobody but tourists in the restaurant, serving nothing but a buffet for lunch. The buffet costs 70,000 Rupiah ($7.00 USD) per person, I think one reviewer got confused, and contains mostly bad Chinese food, but also some edible things like Noodles, Fried Rice, Fried Chicken, Pork Satay, Spring Rolls and Soup. The Chinese dishes were overcooked to the point of hardness, and like most tourist food in Bali totally tasteless, but put some Sambal and Chilis on it and it all tastes ok.

The only reason to stop at this place is the view over the rice fields with Mt. Agung looming beyond. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the breeze through the rice fields, watching the farmers and work, and just marveling at the beauty of this part of Bali. We didn't even care that the food was bad, it was a nice experience nonetheless. Of course they expect you to buy something if you walk into the restaurant, it's a business not a viewpoint, that is to be expected. Stay a while, have a drink or something to eat, and enjoy the scenery. The service staff was really friendly and eager to please too. Bathrooms are some of the cleanest in this part of Bali, even automatic flush, but may not have toilet seats.

One bizarre thing was a giant fruit bat hanging out right outside the entrance. Huge. Looked like Batman. One of the staff was feeding it watermelon.

“Average food, breathtaking view!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2012

This restaurant is in an out of the way location that you'd never find without local knowledge. Fortunate then that every driver and tour operator deposits tourists daily. As our driver said: Even if you're not hungry you should go for the view. He was right but you feel obliged to eat something and the only thing on offer is the buffet. Lots of variety but not very appealing and not great quality. I'd stick to the fresh fruit & coffee but you will still be 'slugged' 80K IRP pp. Wait . . . that's less than A$10 each! It's worth it for the view. We did have perfect weather!

“Rip-off in Bali's Lereng Agung restaurant”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 13, 2012

When we visited the Besakih Temple in Central Bali, our driver took us to this restaurant for lunch. Yes, as some other people already wrote, the view from the dining area was great, but their buffet food was well below average. Further, we were astonished to see a bill of Rp. 404,400 (about US$46) with one large bottle of beer for two of us. Buffet lunch per person was priced at Rp. 150,000 and the beer at Rp. 37,000 with a 20% tax and service charge.

When I complained this ridiculous price to our driver, even he was surprised to hear the cost of the lunch, saying the buffet lunch should have been less than Rp. 100,000 per person. For the quality of food, I felt it was still too expensive.

Avoid this place by all means!
