This was our second stay at Blue Star in Amed. We were so happy last time that we brought friends with us to share the experience. What a great time it was. The staff were wonderful as was the food. Its right on the beach where you can walk out a few metres and start swimming/snorkelling into a beautiful tropical coral reef. The hotel have masks and fins available whether you are a guest or not. There are massage ladies right there offering blissful treatments all day long. The manager, Iluh, is there every morning to ensure all is well. We will keep coming back to this little piece of paradise. Thanks again, Tom

We stayed three nights in the upstairs room. Its very big, has a great four poster bed and the view from the bed out over the sea is priceless. The Blue Star is a very nice place with very well trained staff. Prices are good, also for the food, when compared to other "more touristy" places in Amed. This place feels like a small B&B and the personal approach is wonderfull.

One down side: the shower has hot water, but hot water pressure is poor. The cold water shower however is great to rinse of the salt water after a hot afternoon swim in the sea.

Walking over the beach we did see lot's of other bungalows and restaurants, but none as homely and nicely situated as the Blue Star

Snorkeling and diving in the Jemeluk bay, just meters from the garden is very good. We did two dives here with Christina from Amed Scuba (see my other review) which was really really good. When choosing a dive center in Amed region, do remember that almost all diveschools pay high commissions to locals for bringing you in, so use Tripadvisor to check local recommendations at all times.

Amed, east Bali, is a series of small villages hugging the coast line. This area is very quiet and traditional, as well as quite poor; the villagers subsist on fishing and salt-making, in addition to giving massages on the beach to the odd tourist and trying to sell jewellery trinkets, small wooden replicas of the traditional fishing vessels, and baskets. The Blue Star at Jemeluk Bay is very small, comprising one building with two rooms, one above the other, and a free-standing two-level bungalow right next door. Next to these is the restaurant, including a small terrace; directly on the beach in front, beneath an enormous shade tree, are eight beach loungers and beyond that, the ocean. We stayed for the first half of our nine days in the upstairs room, with a veranda overlooking the sea, and a view of the scrub covered hills that run behind the town. For the second half we moved downstairs to a room that was cooler and darker. In both rooms we used the fan rather than air conditioning and found it pleasant enough in temperature. The rooms are large and simply decorated with great king size beds. We got a thermos of hot water, tea and coffee brought up to our veranda at six in the morning every day before we headed down to breakfast (all included in the price). The food is good, with a fairly wide selection of items, and the service excellent. Iluh and her staff are simply wonderful; we felt like family almost immediately. Iluh was kind enough to invite me to come with her to her village's temple ceremony, a visit which was absolutely fascinating.

The snorkelling here is great right off the beach in front of the bungalows. The water is clear with virtually no current and the fish are large and very colorful – electric blues and greens, yellow and black stripes, purples, black and orange are only a few of the varieties. One day we were delightfully surprised to find a sunken temple, and two scuba divers examining it, just a bit deeper out than we’d swum in the past, in the centre of which is an area to place fish food – great! In addition, several village women are available to give massages, either on the beach or in your room, every day for a very modest price (about 50,000 rupiah or $6 a hour, I think). See pictures here: http://lmaclean.ca/2011/11/beachside-at-the-blue-star-bungalows-amed-bali/

Staying here is being immersed in village life; you will here roosters and fishermen early in the morning. These noises didn't bother us - all part of the experience. We also did a day trip from the Blue Star to snorkel at Vienna Beach and the Japanese Wreck further down the coast, as well as visit Taman Ujung Water Palace near Amlapura - wonderful!

This was our second stay at Blue Star in Amed. Sometimes you return to a place to find it not as wonderful as you remember, but this wasn't the case with Blue Star. We love this place, the staff, the location, the food, the massage ladies... and can't wait to be able to stay here yet again. This time we were here with friends, who enjoyed it as much as we did. Ibu Iluh is most hospitable, and her team of gorgeous staff members are equally so, and provide a great service. We made the most of massages every day, as well as snorkelling every day - as the snorkelling is amazing here, right off the beach. We also went scuba diving in the bay out the front of Blue Star, which was incredible, with one dive site having 25 - 30m visibility. Last time we stayed in the upstairs room, this time in the bungalow. Both rooms are lovely - except the bungalow has sleeping spaces for 4, with a day bed. We will be back as soon as we have time! Thank you again Iluh and the great team at Blue Star.

Returned to Blue Star for the third time and each time it is more difficult to leave. Iluh and her staff are so always so friendly, happy and welcoming. The location is perfect with fantastic snorkelling just in front of the accommodation. The food and service is great with wonderful fresh fish always on the menu. We stayed in the room upstairs which is very private and spacious and has a great seaview it is excellent value and we will definately return.

Room Tip: Any of the three rooms would be great

We decided to go Amed for Easter weekend, to do some diving and relax.

Blue Star is easily accessed and well marked. The last few kilometers are a bit rough but slow driving will get you there even with a small car.

We arrived at this sweet picturesque hideaway and stayed at one of the, I believe, 3 bungalows.Although the water pressure of the shower was not really the most powerful we ever experienced, the bungalows contains all you need to have a comfortable stay.

The staff is friendly and helpful and will serve ok f&b.

You can almost literally jump straight from your bed into the sea since the bungalows are just a few steps away from the pebbled beach.

The bay area is quiet and besides a few vendors and massage, mass tourism has luckily didn't find his way to Amed...yet!

Activities are easy to organize on the spot, day tours or diving next door at Tulamben to see the Liberty Shipwreck.

I certainly recommend Blue Star for couples who like to have a quiet and relaxing stay away from the tourism craze.

We stayed for three nights in the two-storey bungalow which, although perfectly comfortable, is simple rather than luxurious. The real charm of Blue Star is the amazingly hospitable and welcoming ambiance created by Iluh and her super friendly team - the lovely Wayan deserves special mention (we never saw her without a smile!). You feel as though you are staying as a guest of an extended Balinese family who are going about their traditional spiritual way of life. Offerings to the Gods were left outside our bungalow at least twice a day. Set right on the beach, a coral reef just off shore, lovely freshly cooked meals served all day - what more could you wish for? Thank you Iluh!
