We stayed for three nights at end the of march having booked with agoda. When we arrived they had lost our booking and there was no room for us so they put us in a room that is currently on the side if the hotel where they are doing building works. This was ok, although they didn't explain this to us just looked rather panicked but when we got to the room it was full of other people's stuff. When again I kicked up a fuss they offered us a full room clean ( apparently the owners children had been staying there). Once this was completed things looked up and they promised us a move to a proper bungalow and a beach front bungalow for the last night to make up for the trouble. However for us things only got worse. That night we were disturbed by a loud scratching and russeling that sounded like it was in our room. After much searching we couldn't find anything but at 5am I vacated and sat on our friends balcony as a better option than staying in this room. I think we hoped this would be the end of it but every room has this problem at the moment as our next room and the beach bungalow all have a problem with civits which are nocturnal and the size of a cat which seem to leap around in he roof space and leave droppings everywhere on the balconies and patios. When we asked the management they said there is nothing they can do about this but I think they should at least warn people.

Personally I wouldn't stay here again. The beach was very dirty with floating bags of used nappies but the snorkelling is great once you get out there. The food was also very nice and we had no complaints.

My only piece of advice is that we hired two outriggers to take us to the Japanese shipwreck. This was a very expensive trip for two hours and although we haggled we couldn't get the price down and you can swim from the beach to this wreck which would be much cheaper.

Like everyone else we agree a proper safety deposit box in the room to take electronic equipment would be a huge boom. Also doors that fit. On the second day there was a (small) snake under our sun lounger on the balcony. Nothing in the way the doors are constructed would have stopped that getting in the rooms, we are just lucky it didn't.

Room Tip: The beach bungalows are better and number11 or 12 seems best at the moment.

Dear Jane64Southampton,

Thank you for your comment posted on TripAdvisor recounting your recent stay at Coral View Villas, Amed

We appreciate your constructive feedback, and we value them positively, as it enables us to monitor that we are providing the level of facilities and services that our guests deserve and expect.

Again thank you for being a guest to Coral View Villas. However, I would like to acknowledge that the noise in the night is coming from the civet, we already give announcement to every guest by providing a leaflet in every room.
Our hotel is a convenience place for the civets ( nocturnal cat like mammal and do not dangerous) to live because of the huge tropical garden, coconut trees and the other tropical plants. We try to move the civet away from the house but still in our hotel area. If we move them out of the hotel, we are sure the people will kill them as many local people likes to kill animal and eat them or to catch them and put in the cage to get luwak coffee. Anyway we will move them from the house.
About the sea, it is out of our control. The current bring the rubbish from other side of Amed in the morning and then in the afternoon they will bring them back to other places. This phenomena occur only in rainy season in February and March.

Once again thank you and we look forward to the opportunity to welcome you again at our hotel.
Superb regards,

I Made Audie

I spent only one night in Coral View Villas during my company outing.
I got the villa with the ocean view.
The view is wonderful both from the terrace or from the balcony.
The rooms are quite big. In the upper room, it used a double bed (king if i'm not wrong), and twin bed downstairs.
I love the bathroom. It is an outdoor bathroom, with bath tub and shower.
Yet it is still private because the plant's arrangement is nice.

I tried to snorkel there, unfortunately the wave was quite big during that time.

Don't forget, the fish are amazing.
Me and my friends had BBQ in the front of our villas. The seasoning is excellent. Not too spicy like usual Balinese food.

Room Tip: Try to ask for a villa with the ocean view. You won't regret it.

We stayed in CVV 5 days in february 2013. CVV is a small gem on the east coast. The villas have wonderfull view from the terrace and the balcony. The villas are a little worn down but clean and spacious. The gardens are well kept and beautiful with a nice pool shaded by trees. The staff are very polite and helpfull. On top of all this we came to a place with an extremely good kitchen. We had the best food we have had on Bali here, everything homemade, fresh, tasteful. We will surely be coming back!

Room Tip: Choose a beach front bungalow. it is good value for the money and you will se the most beautifl sun...

We spent a few days exploring possible new beach areas and the east coast on our last Bali trip and found the Coral View Villas in the Amed area. A fairly recently developed area, Amed is worth a look if you want to get away from the more developed and sometimes sordid areas around Kuta/Lovina/Candidasa - if the weather is right you can snorkel just off the beach . We found the beach to be clean with a bit of shore break waves suitable for a bit of fun body surfing. Locals are friendly and you can watch them selling the fishing catch in the mornings. We hired a car and headed there after a few days at Ubud. Wasnt difficult to navigate to the area and its a nice drive through some interesting country. Real nice staff, great bungalows, nice pool, restuarant is on the beach and the food and service is excellent.Rates are very negotiable. If you have a car you can head further north along the east coast and there are several other dive/snorkel sites before you get to Singaraja. Then you can either spend a day or two at Lovina or just drive back over the mountains and come back through Ubud again. Make sure you have an international drivers licence to avoid the police rip off and have patience and drive slowly.

Room Tip: Ground level bungalows are beautifully built and very comfortable

We still like the place, but during our last two trips, we noticed that the beach was really dirty, as the hotel is located between two arms of sewage water leading to the sea.... More plastics, old diapers, etc instead of coral at the bottom of the sea right in front of the hotel. We always take a front family villa but were ennoyed lately by the constant loud talking and harrassment of unsollicited masseuses and young men trying to sell you sea trips, right on the lawn in front of the villas... The rooms are still comfortable and clean and the garden very pleasant.

Room Tip: Don't take house 15 directly over stinky river-sewage and boats repair noises !!!

This was our first trip to Amed and we were staying for 3 nights then moving onto Ubud. Everyone was friendly, our room was clean and what you could expect from an outside villa, few geckos, spiders, flies now and then, no big deal if you find this ok. The bathroom was lovely and all outside for showering but still private. The grounds were lovely and well maintained, lots of bird, frog sounds etc! The pool/loungers was a small area but refreshing for a dip and we relaxed here a few times and never were the loungers all taken. Plus the beach is 1 minute away! Breakfast was great, fresh fruit, juice, tea/coffee, eggs, toast, pancake... enough choice! We had dinner one night, this was ok, not anything amazing and the hotel restaurant only had us and one other couple in it at both times. There was a live band on across at a bar nearby one night but we missed it which we were disappointed about as Amed is really quiet at night in February! Free water in the fridge for you to use. Brilliant spot for snorkeling, you didnt have to go far out to see lots of fish and coral! We hired our snorkeling stuff from next door at Eco Dive and booked through them for a boat trip to the Japanese ship wreck. This is about 20mins on a traditional Balinese boat so not much room on the boat but great views of the mountains along the way... the ship wreck isn't up to much but lots more fish and cheap enough to do for the experience! Overall we had a nice time in this hotel and got to know the few locals around the hotel who were all friendly and attentive if we needed anything. I'd recommend this place if its just for a few nights and a bit of a cheaper price. I was ready to leave after 3 nights as Amed was pretty quiet and we were ready to see more of Bali.

I read the comment before and our door was fine and didn't have mosquitos inside our room (villa 22) and even though it was just a padlock on the door it seemed safe enough seeing as Amed is a pretty quiet place. I wouldn't imagine the staff would put padlocks on all the doors if there was a risk of theft all the time in the area. There was a safe but this is behind the reception, quite small but enough for passports etc. We arrived in February so managed to escape fly season. We had no issue with our beach towels, we had one each and just took it back to the room with us each time. It took a while for the AC to cool the room down but we left the card in while were were out and took the key separate in our bag. Meant we came back to a cool room. No TV but that was ok with us.

Downsides would be that our room had 2 beds instead of one so we had to sleep separately but im sure if we had asked they may have moved us.. it didnt bother us that much to ask! A few Roosters in the morning we could here and if you are a light sleeper like me this work me up every morning quite early!! Nothing that can be done about this though! Also, as friendly as the locals were we felt a lot of pressure into booking massages, booking a driver, hiring snorkelling gear etc. The thing was, there are so many locals competing for the same trade that it didnt matter who we went to, someone would loose out. We got asked all the time by the men for a taxi or hire/sell something and the woman constantly asking if we wanted massages.. we dont mind being asked but everyday we were asked about 3-4 times. We just wanted to relax and enjoy our holiday. When we were down the beach one day a local started to moan to us about how he doesn't earn money and we go to the businesses (eco dive) for our gear when he can give us a fair price and earn money. We tried to explain that we are tourists and do not know who to go to so we just decided to go with them as we got a good deal and that no matter what, it seemed someone will loose out regardless of who we give our money too. It frustrated me that we were under this pressure on our time off away from work etc! I dont want this to put anyone off as everyone was friendly and the area was lovely and quiet other than a few locals trying to make a living. We're keen to return to Amed to do some treking and more snorkeling :)

Room Tip: Dont feel pressurised into the locals asking for business.. spend your money where you want to! Also...

Pros

- immaculately kept gardens and villa grounds
- beautiful butterflies dancing feasting on flowers in garden
- decent sized pool that is chlorinated
- proximity to coral reef

Cons

- no safe and rooms locked by padlock and key.

- No TV (nice to have the option for some entertainment for the kids at night)

- miscellaneous deficiencies (Villa 24 shower that won't drain, toilet that stinks of sewer, mini fridge that won't keep cold and half the size of other units + Villa 23 aircon that froze over)

- groups of local men gather by the main street (alongside the fence) gambling and drinking during the day and well into the night on 2 of the 4 days that we stayed at this property.

- it seems that the manager is on site only 1 hour of the day 10-11am

- staff was mostly professional, but the lack of English skills coped with the indifferent management team is a major impediment to making these villa one of the best in Amed. We end up tipping each and everyone of the service staff at the end of the trip and ZERO to management.

- villas doors that won't close allowing flies and lots of mosquitoes into the sleeping quarters

- breakfast that is included is good (coffee/tea, juice, fruits, eggs & toast, fried rice/noodle/pancake) but unfortunately the dinning experience is completely ruined by the 30-50 flies hovering around the table. We indicated to the staff and wondered why, and the head waiter indicated that it was fly season and there was nothing he could do about it (at least please make an effort to kill them while the dinning room is empty... which is 95% of the time?). Again this speaks to the lack of leadership by management to take the extra mile. They ended up using an exterminator in the last day of our stay (better late than never) but do try to avoid meal times when fogging the compound...

- pool towel stealing guests. My wife checked out 3 towels and found out that one went "missing" from the pool side loungers. Management basically told us to take a hike and charged us 200k for the stolen towel. Nice scam going on... so WATCH YOUR TOWELS!

We have travelled all over the world with our family and never have I come across such indifference from hotel management. We are not penny pitching guests by any means (spent the equivalent of our hotel rooms on F&B and massages on the first day alone. Due to the indifference and lack of customer service recovery by Mr Made Audie, our entire family of 7 changed our minds on upgrading to more luxurious rooms (to escape from the bugs), avoided dining at the hotel restaurant, avoided villa massage ladies etc... Conservatively we estimated that the hotel lost over 4 million rupee which we ended up spending elsewhere.

In conclusion

-we would recommend this villa to penny pinching tourists who will tolerate bugs, loud local nightlife and indifferent management in exchange for proximity to coral reef (June-Sept is the best time to visit as the waves and rip current is too strong for safe snorkelling)

- we would warn people who value peace and quiet, well managed properties or have an aversion to unreasonable amounts of flies and mosquitoes to avoid this place like the plague.

- we will not return and will stay at the Bali Bhuana Beach Cottages which is on the same beach as Hidden Paradise (same mgt as Coral View) since it is managed by a nice Balinese man, has great rooms and a good restaurant at half the price of it's neighbours.

Dear guest. firstly thank you for staying at Coral View Villas. We regret that we could not make your time here as enjoyable as possible, however we have and will act on your suggestions where we can.
Unfortunately at the moment it is fly season, and as long as we have fruit trees in season they will keep coming (we set fly traps all over but there are just too many)
In regards to the mosquito problem, i have ordered a new door for the villa you stayed in, which we hope will make the control of the mosquitos in the rooms easier. I have also set the policy that the mosquito fogger be used every three days to further combat the problem.
In regards to the lost towel, the towels when checked out to guests are registered to their rooms. So when a towel goes 'missing' we can only assume that that guest has misplaced it. The hotel is currently under some renovations and when they are complete we will be installing CCTV throughout the grounds. This will hopefully negate the problem of stolen towels as we will be able to check the monitors for culprits.
Each room is allocated a safe, however it is in the front office and not in the guest rooms. We are very sorry if you were not informed of this service.
It is the policy of the owners not to have too much in the rooms to take away from the surroundings i.e. tv, telephone. However Wifi is provided and we have purchased a Projector that both hotel guests will have access to, it is hooked up to the local cable service. Again thank you for the suggestion. We hope that this will be enough to entertain children in the future.
Regarding the locals gambling and drinking in close proximity to the hotel. They are local and dont completely understand the requirements of the modern tourism industry.
To conclude Thank you for your feedback, we will act on your suggestions and are very sorry you did not completely enjoy your stay. We hope that in the future we can change your mind about returning to the hotel.Again thank you for the feedback,
regards, management
Liam Tan and Made Audie
